Medical treatment and health care given to residents with love and impression
“A doctor is a profession for public service.”
Lee Joon & Lim Jung-gi, co-presidents of New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic

Medical care is an essential that should be basically secured for prevention, early discovery, treatment of illness and social welfare. Thus, in a region inhabited by people, there must be a hospital or medical facilities equipped in a certain extent to perform the role of caring for the health of the local residents. In rural community, however, people are potentially exposed to illness because of lower accessibility to medical care, compared to the downtown area, for the lack of medical professionals and specialized medical institutions.

Takes care of the residents’ health with the best medical facilities
A rural community is usually suffering more diseases than the downtown area. Especially, for lack of specialized medical institutions, early discovery and treatment of disease is difficult causing it to worsen. New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic, located at Changhowon, is one of the few hospitals in rural areas specializing in internal medicine composed of 4 specialists, doing their best to protect health of local residents and the company workers in jurisdiction and relieving the gap in medical treatment with cities.

As a digestive organ endoscopy hospital, New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic equipped with advanced medical supplies on a level of general hospital provides the best medical care for patients. With 4 electronic endoscopes, 3 full-automatic syringe and high-class drying disinfection room, the clinic is thoroughly preventing secondary infection resulting from endoscopy while administering impeccable tests with 4 units of high-tech ultrasound equipment and high-priced hematological analyzer used on the level of university hospitals.

Besides, for high-quality health care, the clinic has expanded its Comprehensive Medical Testing Center since March 2009, equipped with body fat analyzer, free oxygen radicals monitor, stress tester, etc. This allows patients to receive substantial general checkup without need to go visiting a general hospital in Seoul costing an arm and a leg.

Leader in relieving inequality of medical care
It was co-presidents Lee Joon’s and Kim Jung-gi’s will to improve on the local unequal health care that has had New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic equipped with such up-to-date facilities and devices hard to find in rural areas. President Lee Joon, who happened to visit Changhowon, came to learn that without a specialized medical institution in the region, the residents had to go up even to Seoul for endoscopic examination of large intestine or echocardiography and decided to open the hospital there. President Lee explained, “In case of digestive organ disease, there is difficulty judging whether one is diseased or not without precise examination. So the provincial residents likely to be alienated from such specialized medical care have had problems of failing to be treated in time even with disease.”

In fact, in the beginning of 2006, one resident, who had been receiving general checkup through a free examination bus, was turned out to have a terminal liver cancer causing regret among doctors. For such reasons, president Lee came to run a Comprehensive Medical Testing Center in order to remove the gap with a city with high-tech medical equipment, grasp each patient’s condition and family history and manage their health systematically based on the result of medical examination. New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic he is managing with president Kim Jung-gi is devoted to managing local residents’ health systematically through the Comprehensive Medical Testing Center to discover and treat disease at an initial stage. Besides, he is planning to establish ‘Digestive organ endoscopy center’ at Icheon lacking in professional medical facilities by piling up medical treatment system specialized in this field.

Doctors are a sort of mind-healer.
Making Changhowon region recognize the necessity for endoscopic examination of large intestine for the first time and disseminate echocardiography, Presidents Lee Joon and Kim Jung-gi have been treating numerous patients with colorectal cancer and myocardial infarction so far, They are also engaging in diverse activities thinking that the role of a medical institution is to contribute to local development as well as health care for residents. Managing the hospital with president Kim Jung-gi, president Lee Joon is supplying monthly scholarship to disadvantaged students despite excellent schoolwork attending Changhowon Boowon High, Changhowon Middle, Gamgok Maegoi Consolidated High, etc. He is also thinking of implementing weekly health instructions, such as household therapy, as well as medical examination and treatment of chronic patients with diabetes, blood pressure, etc.

President Lee Joon, also a member of typical volunteer work group Rotary Club, had received citation twice winning recognition of his efforts to develop the community. He said, “Medicine should not be a means to making money. A doctor should be a person that can cure a patient’s mind tenderly.. Recollecting his childhood when he was operated on with a disease, he is devoted everyday to medical treatment to relieve patients of worries and practice medicine for setting them at ease.

New Seonduyeonhap Internal Medicine Clinic is making endeavors to protect the residents’ health nearby them and develop itself with the community under the motto of “Treatment of love and impression with advanced medicine.” Their enthusiasm about healing the mind of patients will be a model case to solve the medical care problem in rural areas.
