Making SMEs' Korean Wave Marketing easy

Jaehong Kim, the CEO of KOTRA, presented 'Korean Star-SMEs Fusion Foreign Marketing Project Platform' on 30 last month at KOTRA. It was participated by 150 people including SMEs officials who are interested in Korean Wave marketing. The marketing used to be disagreeable business item due to high cost and a lack of network. According to Korean International Trade Association, 91.7% of SMEs answered Korean Wave will give positive effect for export but only 10% are using it. To improve this, KOTRA introduced the platform which include 1)combination of stars and products 2)indirect commercial through dramas 3)indirect commercial through a pictorial 4)fostering overseas local stars 5)indirect commercial through stars' social contribution and CSR. They will provide this support until a contract is made. The head of KOTRA Strategic Marketing Headquarters Sungsu Kim said "now is the time to enter Chinese market by using Korean Wave. We will build a variety of business models by using Korean Wave Contents."

KOTRA, preparing Korea-China FTA with open cooperation

Jaehong Kim, the CEO of KOTRA, held a meeting in Chengdu, China on 8 last month and said he will increase the effect of the FTA through open cooperation with related organizations.

The event was participated by 19 Chinese business leaders and Kim suggested 'open cooperation', 'using the scope of FTA', 'expanding export of premium consumer goods for domestic market', and 'exchange of bilateral technology and capital', and decided to carry out related projects. KOTRA is planning to open 'FTA Support Center for Overseas Activities' in four places including Bejijing and Chengdu linking with 'China Desk' of KOTRA within the first quarter. They also plan to invite buyers of 300 Chinese companies to Korea in April to hold the largest scale export conference called 'Korea-China FTA Business Plaza'. Korea's consumer goods (China's top import goods) ranked No.5 after US and Japan but KOTRA is planning to actively use on/off line network to boot it up. They support Korean business to enter Alibaba and Li & Hwa (联华) and to use Union Pay to make international transaction easier. They also plan to hold Excellent Product Fair in Wuhan and Inner Mongolia in the hope of spreading Korean consumer goods. In addition to that, they will hold Investment Environment Briefing two or three times a year to split Chinese investment centered on reals estate, and also will hold a conference at home and in China to build partnership between 150 global Chinese enterprises and Korean companies. Kim said that KOTRA already entered China to build the largest trade infrastructure even before the diplomatic ties between the countries and Korea-China FTA will be a turning point in history. Kim added "China at the moment is experiencing qualitative change after quantitative growth and FTA for Korea will both be a challenge and an opportunity. We need to preoccupy the Chinese market through quick and systematic respond." KOTRA will open Korea Business Center (KBP) at POSCO Center in Beijing in March and will invite 20 export related organizations including Korea Eximbank, Korea Trade Insurance Corporation and local governments.
