Marketing the dream with sense, personality, sensibility and total education
Taking the initiative in creating right social recognition through fostering talents
Eungye Jung, the head teacher of Donggoo Marketing High School

Personality education that changes oneself and society
Located in Seongbuk, Seoul, Donggoo Marketing High School is a vocational training school that boasts a 73 years of tradition. The school focuses on fostering young talents who will be equipped with professionalism and right personality. And they will enhance reading and foreign language education this year alongside their basic curriculum. Jung says "we cherish personality education above anything else and it starts with our school motto: 'constancy'. It is very important for students to build sense and personality and to take the initiative in leading our society." She added that even if we are rich in knowledge and wisdom but do not have right personality, we cannot be a well balanced intellectual. For this reason, the school introduced 'Rose' movement as their core program. It is an abbreviation of 'Reconstruction Of Spirit and Emotion'. It suggests a direction for innovating students' spirit and emotion. Firstly, it is a movement to build oneself strong. The idea is that if you change the way you are now through self-reflection, the change leads to another change in both school and society. Secondly, it is to be faithful to the basics. You can create a sound and agreeable atmosphere in school and society by maintaining common manners and order. Building a school where everybody works together is the third and last one. It is to create community in which 'we' are respected rather than 'I' on the foundation of love, honor and trust. To promote the movement, the school is carrying out various campaigns in and out of school and awards a certificate of merit and a 'Rose Badge' to those who have shown excellent performance.

A variety of programmes to strengthen students' employability
The right people for Donggoo Marketing High School are required to have equipped with right personality and outstanding ability. As the school provides curriculum customized to one's talent and aptitude, students are showing remarkable results in entering into university and employment. They have swept numerous prizes from both Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Ministry of Education and showed 60% of employability for the last three years which made the school to be ranked in the second place in the commercial sector among specialized high schools in Seoul. The school is also providing Career Guidance Programmes such as 'self-leadership training', 'employment camp' and 'mentoring from alumni who belong to good companies', and Enhanced-Ability Package Training Programmes including 'employability improvement', 'image making' and 'mock job interview'. Other important factors are job satisfaction and settlement rate. For this, Donggoo Marketing High School is hunting for more enterprises and industry-academy agreements alongside their activities on maintaining sustainable relationships with the industry such as 'career path mentoring festival', 'special lecture from human resource department', and 'industry-academy alliance'. These efforts were resulted in 49 students getting a job at Samsung Fire, Samsung Hospital, Samsung SDS, Shinhan Bank, IBK Bank and Korea Exchange Bank. The school also held 'Start-up Biz Cool Camp' in February in order to promote entrepreneurial spirit and talented students. The three day camp enabled students to put their skills and creativity into 'team building programme' and 'start-up simulation programme' and they encouraged themselves of their positive and challenging spirit.

Trustworthy educational community that delivers right guidance
The head teacher Jung says "our 'Job first study later' programme is really effective as students can have 'down to earth knowledge and skills'." It is not advisable to move on to university without understanding one's talent and aptitude but to take the other way round, for example; being financially independent in working and understanding one's passion and ability first and then move on to university, is much more effective and practical. Other programmes include 'Dokdo Flash Mob' in which students and citizens voluntarily participate, 'Hold Me Tight' which students send free eye glasses to underprivileged in Africa and Asia, and 'Founding Well' which students participate in digging a well in Cambodia. Students are those who are in a stage of preparing one's future in society and therefore it is important to provide opportunities for them to make their dream come true. Jung continuos "many young people are suffering from joblessness. But the point is that an opportunity of getting a job is not about waiting but finding. If students show their trust in teachers and follow the guidance and teacher right mentoring for students, the result, I believe, will never betray us." Jung added that she feels proud and worth when seeing her students grow day by day. Power Korea ardently supports Kim and Donggoo Marketing High School and hopes that they will grow into global leaders.
