충북의 바이오산업의 선두주자 
산학협력으로 국가 경쟁력 강화에 앞장

심화되고 있는 국제 경쟁 속에서 기술혁신 없이는 생존이 불가능하게 되었다. 특히 중소기업의 경우 자본과 인력, 장비의 부족으로 생존을 위한 기술개발을 독자적으로 수행하는데 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이를 극복하기 위한 대학의 산학협력사업은 기업과 대학이 가지고 있는 자원을 유기적으로 활용해 시너지 효과를 발휘하게 하는 것에 있다. 서원대학교 산학협력단은 산업체가 기술혁신을 이루기 위한 협력 체제를 구축해 기업의 경쟁력 제고를 넘어 국가경제 발전에 기여하고 있다.   

지역과의 상생발전, 서원대학교 산학협력단
서원대학교 산학협력단은 늘어가는 산학협력 연구 활동을 체계적으로 지원하며 대학과 산업체간의 공동연구개발과 신기술사업화 등 산학협력에 대한 원스톱서비스를 제공하고 있다. 또한 산학협력 참여에 따른 서원대학교 학생들의 취업지원 서비스도 함께하고 있다. 현재 충북화장품산업협회장직을 겸임하고 있는 이현용 단장(식품공학과 교수)은 “특히 산업체로의 기술이전 애로문제와 수요에 따른 인력부족, 학교시설 및 기자재 이용제한 등의 문제점에 대한 해결책을 제시해 산학협력사업에 디딤돌이 되고 있다”고 설명했다.

산학협력단은 산업기술지원팀과 창업보육지원팀으로 구성되어 있다. 산업기술지원팀은 산학협력지원시스템, 창업보육지원팀은 창업보육지원시스템이란 독자적인 운영모델을 개발해 산학협력사업을 위한 맞춤형 시스템을 운영하고 있다. 이외에 지역연고(전통)산업육성사업단과 테마클러스터사업단이 함께 운영되고 있다. 

산업기술지원팀에서는 ‘지역과 함께 발전하는 대학’이란 서원대학교의 슬로건에 맞게 지역 경제 발전에 이바지하기 위해 각종 사업에 참여하며 독자적인 연구개발사업과 산업체 지원시스템을 유지하고 있다. 한편 창업보육지원팀에서는 정보화 산업에 효율적으로 대응하고 지역혁신 및 국가 균형 발전에 대응하기 위해 창의적인 기술이나 아이디어를 사업화하려는 기업의 창업지원과 육성을 돕고 있다. 또한 각 학과별 맞춤식 취업교실을 통해 산·학·연 사업에서 활동하는 학생지원을 아끼지 않고 있다.  

지역혁신에서 국가발전에 이르기까지
서원대학교 산학협력단은 크게 5개의 운영조직으로 구성되어 있다. 먼저 중소기업산학협력센터는 산업체에 필요한 기술개발을 지원하고 있다. 교수들의 산업현황 중심의 연구를 활성화 시키고 산·학·연 교육 프로그램을 개발해 지역사회 및 국가 발전에 기여하고 있다.

창업보육센터는 입주기업의 체계적인 창업지원 프로그램을 통해 급변하는 환경에 적극적으로 대처할 수 있게 돕고 있다. 2013년에는 18개 기업을 보육하면서 전년 대비 100%이상의 매출신장과 각종 R&D지원사업에서 입주기업과의 연계를 통해 높은 실적을 달성한 바 있다. 이로써 중소기업청과 충청북도에서 실시한 2013년도 창업보육센터 운영평가에서 도내 4년제 대학으로 유일하게 최우수 등급에 선정되기도 했다.

HACCP교육센터는 서원대학교의 BIO분야에 특화된 교육운영과 HACCP 교육·훈련기관인 푸드원텍의 노하우와 교육기획을 융합해 BIO 및 HACCP 식품안전교육의 시너지 효과를 창출하고 있다. 또한 정부 법정교육을 시작으로 전문 특화교육 및 공동 기획교육을 통해 식품안전에 대한 효율적인 교육과 전문가를 양성하고 있다.

BIORIC(지역혁신센터)는 지식경제부와 충청북도의 지원을 받아 충북지역 친환경 바이오 소재 및 식품산업체의 경쟁력 제고를 통한 지역혁신을 목표로 다양한 기업지원 사업을 수행하고 있다. 센터는 산·관·학·연의 탄탄한 바이오 인프라를 바탕으로 역량 있는 친환경 바이오 산업체를 발굴하고 자각적인 지원을 통해 세계적인 선도기업군을 육성하고 있다. 

마지막으로 화장품기업지원사업단은 산업통상자원부 지역특화산업 육성사업의 일부인 ‘충북 화장품기업 기술지원 사업’을 통해 도내 화장품 기업의 매출증대와 고용촉진은 물론 글로벌 경쟁력 구축을 위해 힘쓰고 있다. 사업구성은 서원대학교가 주관하고 충북TP바이오센터와 한국화학융합시험연구원, 세명대학교 등이 참여해 기업 맞춤형 Total 지원 시스템을 구축했다. 또한 글로벌 코스메틱 사업단, 서울의료원 아토피 천식연구소, 안동대학교 바이오융합사업단과의 협력을 통해 기능성 소재의 효능검증, 아토피 임상평가, 화장품 품질인증기술 등의 지원과 자문협조를 가능케 했다.

이현용 단장은 “바이오 융합기술을 이용한 특화된 기업지원을 통해 충청북도 화장품기업의 매출증대와 고용촉진의 발판을 마련할 것”이라 강조하며 특화된 기술지원을 통한 충북 기능성 화장품 클러스터의 글로벌 경쟁력 강화 및 기술고도화를 이룰 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다. 산업교육진흥 및 산학협력 촉진을 위한 서원대학교 산학협력단 이현용 단장을 필두로 한 이들의 노력이 충북의 바이오산업의 선두하며 지역특성에 맞는 산업육성과 새로운 지식 및 기술 개발을 보급해 지역사회와 국가발전에 이바지할 수 있길 기대한다.

Seowon University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Group for co-development with the region
Seowon University's Industry-Academic Cooperation Group provides one-stop service for industrial-academic cooperation such as co-R&D and commercialization of new technologies alongside the employment support for the university students. Apart from the director's role, Lee also is active as the CEO of Chungbuk Cosmetics Association and a professor of Food Engineering Department at Seowon University. "We provide solutions for technology transfer, lack of manpower, and the limitation on using school facilities in the industry-academic cooperation."

The group is consisted of Industrial Technology Support Team and Start-up Fostering Support Team. Both teams developed and are running their own relevant customized support systems in cooperation with Regional Industry Promotion Group and Theme Cluster Project Group. Under the Seowon University's slogan of 'University that develops with the region', the frist team is participating in various projects and maintains unique R&D projects and the enterprise support system.

The latter team supports business start-up for those who have innovative technologies or ideas for balanced national development and regional innovation. They also run a customized employment class according each department so that students can get a relevant job.

From regional innovation to national development
The group is consisted of 5 operating teams. Firstly, 'Industry-Academic Cooperation Center for Small & Medium Business' supports technologies needed for the industry, activates industry-centered research from professors, and develops the related training programs to contribute for the development of regional community and country.

'Start-up Fostering Center' helps the industry to cope with the ever changing economic environments through a systematic start-up support program. They fostered 18 enterprises in 2013 and increased the sales by 100% over last year and achieved a good performance in the various R&D support projects in connection with the related companies. As a result, Sewon University won, as the sole university, the first grade at 2013 Business Incubation Center Assessment hosted by Small and Medium Business Administration and North Chungcheong Province.

'HACCP Training Center' combined an education management specialized in the university's bio sector with the know-how and education plan of Food One Tech (HACCP training center), and is creating synergy effect in the related field. 'BIORIC (regional innovation center)' is carrying out various projects to boost up the regional innovation based on the improvement of competitive power in the bio & food industry supported by the province and Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy. The center finds promising eco-friendly bio enterprises and fosters a leading enterprise group through strong bio infrastructure of the industry-public-academic cooperation. Lasty, 'Cosmetics Enterprise Support Group' supports sales increase, acceleration of employment and building global competitiveness of domestic cosmetics companies through 'Chungbuk Cosmetics Enterprise Technology Support Project' which is a part of the Local Industry Promotion Project of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Organizing the business was managed by Seowon University and Chungbuk TP Bio Center, Korea Test and Research Institute and Semyung University to build a Customized Total Support System. Also, in cooperation with Global Cosmetics Business Group, Atopy & Asthma Research Institute of Seoul Medical Center, and Bio Fusion Business Group of Andong National University, the group provide a support and advice for approving verification of functional material, atopy examination, and cosmetics quality approvement technology.

Lee said "we will create a foundation for employment promotion and cosmetics companies' growth of sales through bio fusion technology and specialized enterprise support." Power Korea hopes Lee and Seowon University's Industrial-Academic Cooperation Group will lead the bio industry in Chungbuk, promote the regionalized industry, and spread new knowledge and technology in order to contribute for the development of the society and the country.
