건강한 쿠키를 배달하는 ‘나무와 새’

상담가 폴 트루니에는 그의 저서(선물의 의미)에서 선물을 다음과 같이 정의했다. 살아있는 동안 우리가 경험하는 사랑이 가장 큰 선물이며, 그 사랑을 주고받을 수 있기에 인간은 비로소 존재의 의미를 깨달을 수 있는 것이라고. 한 해의 시작, 1월은 바야흐로 선물의 계절이다. 단순히 서로에게 필요한 물건들을 주고받는 행위 자체를 제외하더라도 1월의 겨울은 그 속에 담긴 마음으로 인해 오히려 고마운 계절이지 않을까. 그 계절 속에서 월간 파워코리아는 우리 밀을 이용한 수제쿠키를 통해, 사람들에게 건강함을 선물하고 있는 현아 씨를 만나보았다.
상자를 열었을 때, 따뜻함이 느껴지는
“우리밀 수제쿠키점 ‘나무와 새’ 운영을 위하여 특별한 공부를 했던 것은 아니었어요. 처음에 우리 아이들을 낳았을 때, 조금 더 건강한 음식을 먹이고 싶은 마음에(오븐을 직접 사서) 수제 작업을 꾸준히 했었던 것이 시작이었다고 말씀드릴 수 있을 것 같습니다.” 가족들을 위한 엄마의 마음으로 수제 쿠키를 시작하게 된 현아 씨는 쿠키 속에 삽입된 캐릭터 수만 30~40가지가 된다고 소개했다. 아이들에게 건강한 간식을 제공한다는 취지에 맞춰, 많이 달지는 않되 누구나 좋아하는 캐릭터로 친근감을 심어주기 위한 현아 씨의 노력은 곧 마음을 나눌 수 있는 계기가 되었던 것이다.
“사실 아무리 몸에 좋아도, 맛이 부족하거나 아이들에게 친숙히 다가갈 수 없다면 소용없는 일이라는 생각을 먼저 했어요. 그래서 맛은 물론, 시각적으로도 신경을 쓰다 보니 현재의 소중한 거래처분도 만나게 되었고 ‘나무와 새’를 오픈할 수 있었던 것이죠. 우선적으로 아이들이 무척 좋아한다는 사실이 저로써는 너무 기뻐요. 뿐만 아니라 어른들이나 수험생들에게도 선물용으로 반응이 좋은 편이라 캐릭터 포크라든지 다양한 재료로 만들어진 쿠키를 즐길 수 있게끔 하는 편이죠.” 고객과의 소통을 말하는데 있어, 주로 SNS를 활용한다는 현아 씨는 각종 기념일에 연락을 직접 받고 그에 걸 맞는 수제쿠키를 만든다고 한다. 특히, 수제쿠키와 비례되는 선물의 의미에 초점을 맞춰, 한 번에 종합선물세트를 받는 듯한 느낌을 나도록 하는 것은 ‘나무와 새’만의 노하우이다. 쿠키상자를 열었을 때, 행복을 느껴지게끔 하는 것. 그것이 선물이 의미하는 진정한 마음전달이자 따뜻함임을 현아 씨는 잘 알고 있었다.
‘건강을 맛있게 먹자’라는 모토 아래,
“처음에는 오븐을 사고 직접 쿠키를 만드는 일이 재미있어서 시작을 했지만 제 개인적으로도 정말 많은 도움이 되었던 것은 우리 가족들의 건강을 직접 지킨다는 자부심이었는지도 모르겠어요. 채식 베이킹 코너를 따로 운영하여 특히, 알레르기 질환이 있으신 분들에게 도움이 되는 케잌을 만들게 되면서 그런 쪽으로 연구하고 레시피도 개발하게 되더군요. 선물의 본질적인 의미에 걸맞게 모두가 알맞은 기쁨을 누리고 건강까지 배달할 수 있다는 것에 저는 더욱 보람을 느끼게 되는 것 같습니다.” 올해 신년부터, ‘나무와 새’ 운영을 이유로 따로 시간을 내지 못했던 어린이 쿠킹수업을 함께 진행할 계획이라는 현아 씨는 앞으로도 건강한 간식거리를 만들고 싶다는 소망을 드러냈다. 쿠키를 받은 이들로부터 받게 되는 ‘고맙다’는 인사말들이 너무나 자신을 감동케 한다는 현아 씨, 어쩌면 건강한 쿠키를 배달하는 현아 씨가 되려 받게 된 선물은 그처럼 소중한 인연을 이어나갈 수 있다는 그 자체를 말하는 것이 아닐까.

In his book 'The Meaning of Gift', the consultant Paul Teurunie defined 'gift' as the biggest gift we can experience, and human can only realize the meaning of their existence when they share the love of gift. January is the beginning of a year and the season of gift. Regardless the typical gift sharing practice, the month itself can be a hope as it embraces cold winter. Power Korea has met Hyunah Shin who is delivering the gift of health through handmade cookies.
Open the box, you will be filled with warmness
"I didn't particularly study about cookies or business to open The Tree & The Bird. When I had my first baby, I bought an oven and made cookies to give healthier food for my family. This was the beginning of The Tree & The Bird" said Shin. She started her cookie making as a mom loves her baby dearly and she introduced 40 characters that were used in her cookies. She makes them less sweet but gave intimacy through the various characters with the concept of healthy food as the top priority. Shin says "it is important to be healthy but the taste and the intimacy are equally so for children. I met helpful clients during this cookie making process and could finally open The Tree & The Bird. I was so pleased that children were crazy about the cookies I had made when I first opened the store. And the popularity of my cookies slowly spread to young people and even to grown ups as they were really good for gifts." Shin uses SNS to communicate with her customers and makes special cookies for a variety of anniversaries on demand. It is Shin's know-how to make cookies look like an assorted gift set so that the receivers feel happy when they open the box.
Under the slogan "Let's eat a health deliciously"
"I had a lot of fun myself when I bought an oven and started to make cookies. But then the fun became a pride that I was keeping the health of my family. I'm also running a vegetarian baking corner and have developed recipe to make cakes for allergic patients. I feel worth that I can share health and happiness with others through my cookies" said Shin.
She hopes to run 'Children's Cooking Class' from this year which she had to stop for a while due to the management of The Tree & The Bird. Shin said that she gets moved whenever she hears "thank you very much" from people. Probably, that is the biggest gift she is receiving from others and that might be the reason she can keep making good relations with her customers.
