As cities become more industrialized various diseases are distressing people and healthy food industry is booming as a result. Among those healthy products, red ginseng is becoming a trend. Because red ginseng is rich in saponin which is a useful ingredient for our body it keeps its number one status in the field. It contains Rg1, Rb1 and Rg3 saponin. Rg1 saponin is good for blood clot, fatigue and immunity, Rb1 for calming effect and anti-diabetic effect, and Rg3 for improving hyperlipidemia and preventing transfer of cancer cell according to a research. Recently, a new product, which contains the nutritions that can be lost in the manufacturing process of normal ginseng, is enjoying great popularity. Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has met the CEO of Saneseo Deuleseo Mingyoung Seo.

Black red ginseng powder extract liquid made of preserved saponin 

In fact, Seo is not a CEO but a pharmacist who works in a pharmacy. He started to have an interest in red ginseng when he was in doubt if they were made with its proper value. Seo said "I steamed fresh ginseng to eat red ginseng which was the traditional method. But the yellow saponin sap was oozing out during the steaming process. I asked the related industry and they said they reuse the sap to make red ginseng extract liquid. I was shocked because that meant that they were not selling proper ginseng."

Seo then tried for a new method by drying fresh ginseng first and steaming it later to keep the sap(saponin) from oozing out. The color of red ginseng turns into black during this process. This is why it is called 'good black red ginseng'. The traditional process is the other way round which loses a lot of sap (saponin) and reduces its effect. Seo maximized its absorption rate by extracting only the water-soluble saponin and grinding the root of black red ginseng minutely so that it can keep even non-saponin nutritions.

Using 6 year old first grade red ginseng, reducing distribution margin

'Good black red ginseng uses the best quality ingredients: 6 year old first grade dried ginseng whose quality is guaranteed by certification authority for the first in Korea. Because of the best quality ingredients, the production cost is double the existing products and ginsenoside is 12mg per one sachet which means the amount of saponin is very high. But Seo reduced the distribution margin instead and is supplying the product at $80 for 30 sachets. Good black red ginseng has been on sale for 3 to 4 months. It was initially produced in the factory in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu but Seo will plan to open a second factory in Baekseok-dong to meet the high demands. The effect of 'Heukhongsam (good black red ginseng)' will be recognized and will bring a new sensation to the health food industry.
