논픽션의 충격소설 ‘갈라파고스 수용소’ 출간

“사이비 이단종교의 모든 것을 파해치다”

올해 대한민국에서 가장 주목받았던, 그리고 아직까지도 모든 진실이 밝혀지지 않은 사건이 있다. 바로 세월호사건과 그 배후에 비춰지던 일명 구원파라 불리는 사이비 종교단체와 고유병헌 회장의 진실이다. 온 국민이 슬퍼했고 아직도 애도의 물결은 사회 곳곳에서 발견될 정도로 그 파장은 엄청났다. 그 가운데 숨 가쁘게 움직이는 이가 있었는데 바로 한국예수교전도관부흥협회 회장으로 있는 허병주 회장이다. 그 누구보다 사이비 이단종교의 실체를 가까이서 지켜본 허병주 목사는 미뤄두었던 이야기를 서둘러 준비해 가짜 ‘구원’을 위한 불법 행위들을 고발하는 충격소설인 <갈라파고스 수용소>를 출간하며 세상에 큰 충격을 전하고 있었다. 월간 파워코리아는 허병주 회장을 만나 출간의 이야기와 사이비 이단종교의 문제점을 들어보았다. 

신앙촌의 역사를 지켜본 허병주 목사의 일침  

현재 ‘검은 안개의 섬’이라고 불리는 신앙촌은 한 때 다양한 사업을 펼치며 국내 경제를 움직일 정도로 큰 규모의 지역으로 불렸다. 6.25전쟁 직후 가난과 공포에 짓눌려 있던 많은 국민들은 대한예수교장로회 소속 부흥강사였던 박태선 장로를 중심으로 그 시기를 벗어나려  했다. 이후 늘어나는 신도들을 바탕으로 1955년 소속교단을 탈퇴해 한국예수교전도관부흥협회(이하 전도관)를 설립한다. 한때 전국적으로 교회가 600여 개, 신도가 10만 명에 달하기도 했던 전도관이 신앙공동체를 만든다는 목적 하에 건설한 것이 바로 신앙촌이다. 부천, 덕소, 기장에 자리 잡은 이곳은 50여 동의 공장에서 100종이 넘는 생활용품의 생산으로 석탑 및 철탑 산업 훈장을 수상했고 시온초·중·고등학교를 바탕으로 자녀교육과 의식주는 물론 기초생활 필수품까지 자급자족하는 시스템을 만들었다. 바로 이 중심에는 허병주 목사와 그의 부친이 서 있었다. 당시 전국에 도자기 공장을 갖고 웬만한 시·군을 통째로 살 수 있을 정도의 재산을 보유하던 허 목사의 부친은 전재산을 전도관에 헌금했고 다른 이들의 헌금과 결합해 신앙촌의 초석을 다지는데 큰 역할을 펼쳤다. 그때까지만 해도 그들이 펼치는 전도관은 이상적인 종교로 보였지만 1980년 신년집회에서 창시자인 박태선 장로가 본인이 ‘하나님’이라고 선언하고 교회 안에서 십자가를 없애고 상징인 비둘기상으로 대체하며 급격히 본래의 모습을 잃어갔다. 이 모든 역사의 산증인이 바로 허병주 목사인 것이다. 

소사신앙촌은 박태선 장로가 사망하고 재개발 바람이 불면서 비밀리에 재산의 이전작업이 벌어졌고 현재까지 다자간의 법적 소송과정이 진행되고 있다.

사이비 종교의 범죄 행각의 모든 것 <갈라파고스 수용소>

<갈라파고스 수용소>는 국내 원조격인 사이비 이단종교 단체의 온갖 범죄와 비리 등을 파헤친 논픽션의 소설이다. 1949년생으로 현재 부천 소신교회 목사 겸 한국예수교전도관부흥협회 회장을 맡고 있는 허병주 목사에 의해 탄생된 이 저서는 사이비 종교 피해자들과 온갖 범죄와 비리가 즐비한 그들의 면모를 파헤친 저서이다. 이 책의 제목인 갈라파고스란 외부와 소통을 거부하는 단절된 곳을 의미하고 있다. 허병주 목사는 “사이비 종교의 불법성과 인간성 말살, 돈만을 추구하는 모든 범죄가 망라되어 있고 사이비종교는 우리의 영혼을 갉아먹고 공동체를 파괴해 사회적으로 큰 문제를 만들고 있다. 이 책으로 인해 그 문제점들을 기억하고 그로 인해 피해보는 이들을 위해 출간했다”고 밝혔다. 사실 이 책은 허병주 회장이 집필해 놓은 1부, 2부, 3부의 이야기에 2부에 속하는 소설이다. 3권을 집필했지만 세월호 사건 이후 급하게 국민들에게 인식시키기 위해 먼저 2부에 속하는 <갈라파고스 수용소>를 출간한 것이다. 이 이야기는 충격적 사실을 담고 있지만 방대한 스토리에 아주 미세한 부분만 언급해 놓은 것이다. ‘유골이 등산객의 발길에 채이다’의 첫 소제목을 비롯해 ‘이 교주의 손톱과 발톱을 얻다’의 총 30개의 이야기로 구성되었고 그 안에는 모든 악행과 비리를 담아내고 있었다. 

소송을 이겨내 전도관 신자를 위한 공익사업에 힘쓸 것

현재 대부분의 부지가 매각한 후 남은 것이 계수동 8-10번지 일대의 1만여평이다. 이곳은 43개 주택, 300가구가 있었고 계수주민협의회(계수동 8-10번지 일대 주택의 실소유자라고 주장하는 259명의 사람들)가 주택배치증을 사서 권리를 승계했다고 주장하고 있다. 허 목사는 “소유권을 되찾아 전도관 신자를 위한 사업을 하고 싶다. <갈라파고스 수용소>에서 언급된 일들로 인해 피해 받은 이들이 남은여생을 편히 쉴 수 있도록 요양시설, 복지시설, 이단연구재단 등을 설립해 더 이상의 피해자들이 나오지 않도록 할 것”이라고 밝혔다. 

사실 기사에서 언급된 이야기는 허병주 목사와 사이비 이단종교의 역사에 미력한 부분만을 담았다. 하지만 앞으로 허병주 회장이 집필한 <칼라파고스 수용소>를 바탕으로 사이비 이단 종교의 문제점을 진단하고 그로 인해 정계, 관계, 법조계, 언론계 등 사회의 모든 부분이 현명한 방법으로 갈 것이라 생각된다.

어렵게 한국예수교전도관부흥협회 회장으로 선출된 허병주 목사. 소신교회와 전도관을 바탕으로 그가 펼쳐갈 희대의 스토리는 앞으로 온 국민에게 기억될 것이다.

"Digging up everything about pseudo religion"

Sewol ferry disaster is this year's biggest incident but the whole truth was not yet revealed. Especially, the ferry company's chairman Byunghun Yu and the pseudo religion 'Guwonpa(salvation sect)' are still mystery. The social ramifications of the disaster is huge and people are still showing their condolences. Among them is Byungju Hur, the president of Korea Christianity Mission Promotion Association. Hur has been watching the activities of pseudo religion and recently has released an autobiographical novel 'Galapagos Concentration Camp' which reveals about pseudo-religion. The Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has met Hur and heard about the book and the problems of pseudo religion.

Sinangchon, which is now called 'the black misty island' used to be an area where a lot of large scale businesses were going on. Many people were starved and feared after the Korean War and they tried to overcome the hardship with an elder Taesun Park who belonged to The Presbyterian Church of Korea. As the believers were getting increased Park quit the sect and established the Korea Christianity Mission Promotion Association(the Mission) in 1955. The mission had 600 churches and 10,000 believers, and built the Sinangchon in order to create a community of faith. Located in Bucheon, Dukso and Gijang, they built 50 factories which produced more than 100 household items and won the Order of Industrial Service Merit. They also built a self-sufficient system to provide the necessaries of life and education through Sion elementary, middle and high schools. In the center of all of this was the clergyman Byungju Hur and his father. Hur's father owned porcelain factories nationwide and had enormous wealth that he could buy many cities and counties. He donated all of his wealth to the Mission, and together with other donations, he laid the groundwork for Sinangchon. Up to that time the Mission looked like an ideal religion but the founder of the Mission Taesun Park declared that he was THE God and removed the cross from the church and introduced a dove statue instead. Thus the Mission was getting lost its original shape. And Hur saw all of this.

After Park died, the fortunes of Sosa Sinangchon were moving around and is still in the law suit.

<Galapagos Concentration Camp> tells everything about criminal activities of pseudo religion.

The novel <Galapagos Concentration Camp>, wrote by Byungju Hur(born in 1949), reveals each and every criminal activity of pseudo religion. In this book, Galapagos means the place that rejects communication with the outer world. Hur said "pseudo religion devours our soul and destroys our society. This book includes every crime such as illegality, dehumanization and pursuing of money. I wrote this book to remember the problems and for those who were the victims of all this." In fact, this book is the second part of three parts which Hur has written. Due to the Sewol ferry disaster, Hur decided to release the second one first for the people to be aware of the book. The book contains shocking facts but it is a mere part of bulky stories. It consists of 30 chapters including 'The remains were kicked by a climber'(first chapter) and 'The acquisition of the founder Lee's fingernails and toenails'. 

Striving to carry out the public works for the believers by winning the law suit.

Currently, most land were sold and the only one still remaining is the 30,000 square meter land in 8-10 Gyesu village. The land had 300 families in 43 houses and Gyesu Residents Council(295 residents who claim that they are the owner of the houses around 8-10 Gyesu village) is asserting that they succeeded the rights through buying housing-layout certification. Hur said "I would like to recover the ownership to carry out the public works for the believers. I would like to build sanatorium, welfare facilities, and pseudo religion research center for those who suffered(mentioned in the book) so that they can live the rest of their lives comfortably and to prevent similar victims." In fact, the article reported here only contains a mere part of the Hur's and pseudo religion's history. But Galapagos Concentration Camp will diagnose the problems of pseudo religion and all part of the society including political, legal and media circles will respond with wise methods to solve these problems.

The story Hur is telling will be remembered by all of us.
