아토피, 탈모환자를 위한 천연한방비누 ‘신비화’

중국, 일본, 미국 등으로 수출 문의 이어져

팔도강산을 울긋불긋 단풍으로 아름답게 수놓을 가을이 찾아 왔다. 하지만 바람이 차고 대기가 건조해지면서 극심한 피부 건조와 간지러움이 유발되는 아토피 환자들에게는 고통의 계절이 시작되었다. 최근 건강보험심사평가원의 자료를 빌리면 아토피성 피부염 환자가 2012년 98만 명에서 2013년 101만 명으로 늘어났고, 올 상반기를 포함해 최근 3년 간 11%의 환자들이 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 아토피 환자가 크게 늘어남에 따라 아토피 전문 한의원, 아토피에 좋은 인견, 면역력을 높이는 음식 등이 큰 인기를 얻기도 했는데, 전문가들은 무엇보다 일상생활에서의 지속적인 관리가 중요하다고 조언한다. 그래서 최근에는 내 아이의 아토피를 개선하고자 발 벗고 나선 엄마들에게 입소문이 자자한 ‘신비화’ 비누가 화제의 중심에 있다. 신천신비토(http://www.sinbito.com)의 김종해 대표를 만나 한방비누의 경쟁력에 대해 들어 보았다.  

  9년전 늦동이 아들의 극심한 아토피를 잡기 위해 스스로 시작한 천연비누 개발

김종해 대표가 비누 연구에 뛰어들게 된 것은 그의 아들 때문이었다. 어린 나이에 아토피 피부염을 앓고 있었던 동준 군의 모습을 지켜보는 것은 그에게 너무나도 큰 고통이었다.

“아이가 아토피로 많이 고통 받았어요. 참다못해 혼절해버리기도 하고. 병원에서 못 고친다고는 이야기하지만 방치할 수도 없고 작은 지식으로 한방에 지식이 있어서 한 번 해보자 싶었습니다. 스님 생활하면서 산에 약초를 많이 캐서 차도 우려먹고 하다 보니까 알게 됐고요. 피부에 강한 것을 찾다 보니 심마니 분들을 만나게 되고 도움을 많이 받았습니다. 결국 자식에 대한 마음이죠.”

물론 개발과 연구의 길이 처음부터 쉬웠던 것은 아니었다. 몇 가지 약초들로 시험했을 때 그의 아이는 호전과 재발을 반복했고, 7~80여 가지의 강한 성분을 지닌 약초를 한 번에 삶아서 처방했을 때는 명현 반응으로 아이의 온 피부가 벗겨지는 증상이 있기도 했다. 또한 

아내의 암과 당뇨로 인해 극심한 탈모 때문에 탈모 비누 역시 연구 개발하게 되었다 

기능성 천연비누 시장을 개척한 것 역시 그였다. 이 제품으로 2012년 특허 제10-1119706호를 득하기도 했다. 그러나 그는 제품을 처음 만들었을 당시 비슷한 처지의 아이들을 도와보려는 선의에서 인터넷 상에 공유했던 정보가 복제품을 낳고 종종 오용되기도 하면서 힘든 시절을 겪었다. 이름만 빌려간 제품들에 대한 항의를 대신 받기도 하고 중국 수출 건으로 제품만 보내고 돈을 받지 못하는 사기를 당하는 등 여러 일들이 겹쳐 한동안 국내 사업을 접기도 했다.

직접 캐낸 천연 약초를 사용한 13종의 제품군 있어,  피부질환, 비듬, 주름 등에 효능

그럼에도 김 대표의 비누 개발에 대한 열의는 식지 않았다. 보통 비누는 순비누분이 93% 함유되어야 하지만 신비화 비누의 경우는 순비누분 함량을 3~4년 전에 30.2%, 현재는 22.6% 정도까지 낮추면서 나머지를 전부 약재 성분으로 채워 넣었다. 원재료는 심마니들이 직접 캐서 강원도 평창에 위치한 200평 규모의 저장고에 보관하며 나무, 잎, 줄기, 뿌리 등이 모두 나뉘어 보관되고 있다. 또한 제품의 품질을 일정하게 유지하기 위해 한 달에 한 번 씩 꾸준히 성분검사를 진행하면서 최상의 원료 상태를 유지한다.

그렇게 만들어진 신비화 비누는 한국광산에서 채굴된 신비토 화산석 미네랄을 함유하고 있다. 이 광물은 아토피 알러지로 유발되는 가려움증을 완화시키며, 각종 피부미용 화장품에 천연원료로 사용된다. 신비화 비누의 제품군에는 피부질환 완화, 각질 제거 등에 효능이 있는 아토피 비누, 샴푸 대용으로 사용하며 비듬이나 모낭충 제거에 효능이 있는 탈모방지 비누, 피부 개선과 주름 제거 등의 효능이 있는 미백 비누 등 13종이 있다. 요즘은 오히려 아이들보다 성인층에서 많이 사용하기 때문에 탈모와 미백 비누가 주종을 이루고 있다.

가격 진입 장벽을 낮추기 위해 대량생산 체계 도입 예정

신비화 비누는 지난 해 일산 킨텍스에서 열린 대한민국 뷰티박람회에도 참가하여 관람객들의 뜨거운 반응을 얻기도 했다. 그 뿐 아니라 일본, 미국, 네덜란드 등의 국가에 제품을 조금씩 수출하고 있으며, 중국에는 최근 시진핑 주석이 직접 관여하는 것으로 화제를 모은 온라인 쇼핑몰 ‘보세국제’에 상품 등록을 위한 준비를 마쳤다. 신비화 비누의 제품을 인증 받는 데에도 여러 사람을 거친 검증과 의학 테스트를 통한 유해물질 검출 여부 등의 과정을 거치는 데 두 달 가까운 시간이 걸렸다. 보세국제는 무엇보다 제대로 인정받지 않은 제품은 취급하지 않겠다는 방침으로 유명하기 때문에 이것은 분명 인상적인 결실이라 할 수 있다. “재구매는 반드시 이루어집니다. 써본 사람들은 기능을 알기 때문에 대부분 다시 삽니다. 아무 이유 없이 세안만을 위해 쓰는 고객은 별로 없어요. 각자 필요한 사람이 쓰기 때문에 재구매율이 높습니다.”

이처럼 제품에 대해 자신 있게 이야기할 정도로 확신이 있는 김 대표지만 그에게도 걱정거리가 있다. 무엇보다 고가의 재료비로 인해 높은 가격대가 형성될 수밖에 없다는 사실이다. 수입하거나 한약방에서 사는 약재를 사용하는 것이 아니라 심마니들이 직접 산에서 채취한 것이고, 화장품에도 잘 안 넣는 고가의 원료들을 사용하며 계면활성제나 화학약품을 안 넣다 보니 제품이 고가가 되는 것이다.

김 대표는 제품의 가격 자체가 진입 장벽이 되어 정말 필요한 사람들이 사용하지 못하는 일이 생겨서는 안 된다는 의견을 피력했다. 그렇기 때문에 원가를 낮추기 위해 김 대표는 대량생산 체계를 도입하기로 했다. 생산 과정에서 가장 높은 단가를 차지하는 원료인 약초를 대량 구매하면 전체 단가를 떨어뜨릴 수 있을 것이라는 계산이다.

안성에 1600평 규모 공장 올해 안으로 가동할 것

김 대표는 그간 제품의 효과적인 활로를 개척하기 위해 백방으로 노력을 다했다. 일본의 모 사업가로부터 OEM 방식으로 일본에서 제품을 생산하는 것이 어떻겠느냐는 제안도 있었고, 홈쇼핑을 통해 제품을 홍보하면 해외 벤더들에게도 도움이 될 것이고 수익 창출에도 도움이 될 것이라는 제안 역시 있었다. 하지만 그는 이런 길을 마다하고 연구와 생산의 길을 택했다. 그 대신 벤더나 수출 주문, 계약 등의 업무는 다른 법인과의 협업을 통해 진행하고 김 대표는 확장된 공장 시설에서 상품 제조에 조금 더 집중하기로 했다. 최근 경기도 안성에 1600여 평 규모의 공장을 세웠고, 이후 기계 설비를 갖추는 등의 절차를 밟고 나면 늦어도 12월부터는 일일 생산량 5천 개에서 3만 개 정도가 가능할 것으로 예상하고 있다.

“아시아 전역을 좋은 품질의 제품으로 공략할 예정이고 전 세계 시장에 내보내는 것이 마지막 목표입니다. 앞으로 화장품, 치약, 미용 팩 등이 나올 예정입니다.”

김 대표가 처음 비누를 개발했을 때와는 달리 천연제품 시장이 몇 곱절로 불어난 현재 상황에서 신비화 비누가 안팎으로 좋은 반응을 얻을 수 있었던 것은 무엇보다 가족이 사용할 제품을 직접 연구 개발했다는 선의와 진정성을 통해 어디서도 경쟁할 수 있을 제품을 만들었기 때문일 것이다. 아토피나 탈모로 고생하는 기초생활수급자에게는 무료로 비누를 제공하겠다는 김대표. 꾸준한 연구 개발을 통해 앞으로도 새로운 계획을 이어갈 그의 행보를 기대해 본다.

Natural Oriental Medicine Soap 'Shinbiwha' for atopic and alopecia patients.

Constant stream of inquiries from China, Japan and US.

The beautiful autumn has come. But the season can be a hell for atopic patients due to its dry weather. According to Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, atopic dermatitis patients have been increased to 1.01 million in 2013 compared to 980,000 in 2012, which shows 11% increase for the last three years. Although numerous remedies have been suggested from clinics and they gained popularity but experts say ongoing management in daily life is more important. Recently though, a soap has gained a special interest from moms who have apotic children and the soap 'Shinbiwha' is the talk of the town. The Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has met the CEO Kim and heard about the competitiveness of oriental medicine soaps.

An atopic son ignited his father's development of natural soap.

Kim jumped into research of soap to cure his atopic son. It was too painful for Kim to see his frustrated son everyday. Kim said "my son has even fainted once because of atopy. By hearing from the hospital that it cannot be cured, I was determined to do something with my little knowledge on oriental medicine. I actually used to be a monk and know quite a lot about herbs. Subsequently, I met a lot of ginseng diggers while I was looking for something strong for the troubled skin. It was the result of my love for my son."

However, the road to R&D was not easy. When first tried with several herbs, the son showed improvement but soon came back to its original state, and when tried with 70~80 herbs, the whole skin was peeled. But not only his son had problem but also his wife was suffering from hair loss caused by cancer and diabetes which prompted him to find yet another cure for her.

Thus he pioneered the functional natural soap market which he subsequently acquired a patent(number 10-1119706) in 2012. But as they say that the good comes with the bad, he had to see the copies of his painstaking brainchild when he put his valuable information online. Even worse, he was unfairly accused of borrowing other products' names and swindled when exporting to China, and closed his business as the result.

Nevertheless, Kim's passion for developing the soap was unquenched. Normally, a soap contains 93% of pure soap ingredients but Kim reduced it to 22.6% and filled the rest with medicinal substances instead. The raw ingredients are digged by ginseng diggers to be stored in a 600 square meter's storage according to its leaf, stem and root. In addition, the ingredient test is carried out once a month to keep the ingredient at the best raw state. And the soaps contain Shinbito volcanic stones and minerals digged up from Korean mines. These minerals ease the itching on the skin and are used for skin care cosmetics. Shinbiwha Soap has 13 products including Atopy Soap(eases skin trouble and removes dead skin), Anti-Hair Loss Soap(removes dandruff and demodex), and Whitening Soap(improves skin and removes wrinkles). Among these, Whitening and Anti-Hair Loss are popular these days.

Introducing mass production system to reduce price barrier.

Shinbiwha Soap participated in the Korea Beauty Expo held at Kintex, Ilsan and received ardent reactions. They are also exporting the soaps to Japan, US and the Netherlands. It took almost two months to get through the verification and medical test to make sure the soaps have no harmful substance. Shinbiwha Soap to be registered on Baoshuiguoji is an impressive result because Baoshuiguoji, a Chinese online shopping mall directly engaged by Xi Jinping, is strict on unapproved products. Kim said "repurchase must happen because those who have used our products know what they can do. Not many customers use our soap for washing their face only. They use it because they need and that is why they purchase it again." But there is a thing that Kim is worrying about. The price of product is but expensive due to the expensive material costs. Because it was digged up by ginseng diggers manually and uses expensive raw ingredients which are not even used for cosmetic products.

Kim said that this should not be the reason people not buying it. Because he decided to introduce mass production system to reduce the production cost. He thinks that if he purchases herbs in large quantity, which is the most expensive unit price, he can reduce the over all unit price.

4,800 square meter factory to run in Ansung within the year.

Kim has been doing his best to pioneer the way out. He once has received a proposal of OEM style production in Japan from a Japanese businessman, and also of home shopping advertisement. But he chose to focus on R&D and the trading works were proceeded in cooperation with other company instead. He has recently built 4,800 square meter factory in Ansung city, Gyeonggi province and when the machine equipments are installed they can start producing 30,000 soaps a day compared to existing 5,000 from December. Kim said "it is our goal to attack the all Asian markets with our top quality products and then move on to the world market. People can also expect cosmetic products, toothpaste, and beauty packs to be released near future."

The reason Shinbiwha Soap is receiving good refutation is because Kim developed it all by himself with the intension to cure his family and this love and truthfulness can not be copied by any other companies. Kim promised that he will give out his soaps free for those who suffer from atopy and hair loss but cannot afford to buy one. Power Korea is cheering him up with all our might.
