Solomon Auto Service Center sets a model for industry

Expertise and technology recognized by customers

Seo Seung-man, president of Solomon Car Center

According to the Land and Transport Ministry¡¯s survey, the cumulative number of registered cars is going to rise over 20 million for the latter half of this year. Besides, though new car registration has just increased 2.5%, imported cars 29.3% against the same period last year. This means most people engaged in economic activity own a car and that especially imported cars are increasing in number. It is natural that more cars owned by people should mean more troubles and accidents in proportion. What motorists are looking for is a car service center they could rely upon and give their patronage. ¡®Solomon Car Service Center is one of such popular stores winning recognition with expertise and technology. We met its president Seo Seung-man (Jung-ho) to hear what he has to say about cars these days.

Even resolves the customer¡¯s suffocating using his wide knowledge of reward for cars

President Seo had been engaging in car compensation settlement for 10 years at Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance when he started a car service center. That experience earned him an accumulation of expert knowledge about the insurance act and laws related to reward. A simple breakdown or maintenance is no matter at all but customers who visit a service center in a sudden accident is usually at a loss what to do. They cannot always be sure about what is said by personnel of the insurance company they have subscribed to. President Seo unsparingly gives advice to his customers in their car-related disputes or suffocating about everything from bodily injury, object, to scrapping a car. His visitor felt assured by meeting him also finds his car repaired cleanly and becomes a regular customer spontaneously. President Seo has hundreds of regular customers probably because they can appreciate his mindset of loving cars. If possible, parts replaceable are better to replace because it is neat and tidy to look at and more profitable in a long-term perspective. However, as to exchange a product, things like the door is silicon-treated, but not for a new product. For frame also, cutting and exchanging requires welding job again making it impossible to revert to the initial condition of shipment, causing a big loss in old-car transaction. As a car mania, he doesn¡¯t want his customers to receive disadvantage, President Seo elucidates the details and offers customers repair and sheet metal rather than exchange. Motorists who have experienced this are moved by President Seo¡¯s truthfulness and choose to keep a rapport by attracting new customers.

Devoted to local development and future of the youth

Running a car service center, President Seo never failed to care for the customer¡¯s sentiment or neglect self-development in order to be of a little help with the business affairs of his staff. Entering Korea Polytechnic University, he obtained certificates for car mechanic and car maintenance mechanic. He further coned up his own knowhow and skills and was appointed as an advisor professor on the site of Geochang campus of Polytechnic University. President Seo said, ¡°I want to help young students who love and want to know about automobiles. It is the thing most rewarding and joyous ever in my career.¡±

President Seo has affection for students because of his experience as a student. At high school, President Seo was a student far away from schoolwork. For him with adolescence problems, his then teacher Kim Seon-bo (currently, a standing tuba player at Daejeon City Symphony Orchestra) healed his mind and inspired hope through music. ¡°Because of him, I went on to a music college and even served as the student body president piling up aptitude for a leader. That was when I was reborn,¡± He said, ¡°It was because I wanted to give the students the benefit I had been given from the teacher.¡± He did many community services for the needy at local community and received a citation in 2012 from No Hyun-song, Gangseo-gu ward head, and anther citation for local defense conference in 2013 from lawmaker Kim Sung-tae. President Seo took on the fifth president of Gangseo Ward Chamber of Commerce in 2013 for small merchants in the community suffering difficulty due to the slump of economy. President Seo, believing in a positive frame of mind in tiding over despite hard life of the common people in the poor economy, is making every effort to inspire vitality into local merchants by going on a group picnic to Jeju-do with members, etc. Besides, father of President Seo received honor as a Korean patriot in September 2014, which further raised his pride on the country.

Will make a car service center capable for hotel-like rest

President Seo¡¯s dream is the people¡¯s change of perception toward a car service center. Car repair always reminds one of a dirty place with working uniforms and place smeared with oil accompanied by hard and rough work. Someone hastily looks down on the personnel calling them ¡°cheap mechanic.¡¯ To correct this negative perception, President Seo always clears the workplace and cleans the restroom scrupulously.  He does all this cleaning himself not telling his personnel to do that. ¡°When our personnel have no stress, it increases the level of receiving customers. So I don¡¯t tell them to do other things than their fixed responsibilities. I do it myself.¡± He has another dream, which is to make a car center like a hotel lounge for the rest of visiting customers. His aim is to make a space like a next room in the neighborhood where they can listen to music and read books rather than the existing place just for drinking coffee. He is planning to make a place where anyone can ask questions about a car and inhabitants can come to take a rest. Then, his car service center will be the one representing Korea adopting paradigm change for this line of business both nominally and virtually.
