명품을 더욱 명품답게 만드는 서현사의 기술력

“명품에 걸맞은 수선 서비스를 선보이다”

해외는 물론 이미 국내에서도 명품의 인기는 식을 줄 모르고 있다. 경제가 성장하면서 우린 더 좋은 것들에 대한 열망에 빠져들고 그 중심에는 바로 누구나 소유하고 싶은 명품 브랜드가 자리 잡고 있다. 하지만 구매는 백화점이나 인터넷 등을 통해 이뤄지지만 A/S 측면은 어떤 과정에서 진행되는지 모르는 이들이 태반이다. 장인이 만든 제품이기에 수선 또한 장인이 해야 하는 것이 기본일 것이다. 월간 파워코리아는 이번 11월호에 국내 최고의 명품 전문 수선업체를 이끌고 있는 (주)서현알씨(구 서현사) 이호웅 대표를 만나 장인들의 이야기를 들어보았다. 

장인의 손 끝에서 표현되는 마술

2004년 서현동에서 시작된 이곳은 국내 최고의 수선 장인들로 구성돼 리폼 대신 명품의 원래 가치의 복원에 중점을 두고 있다. 3단계의 철저한 검품 과정을 거쳐 최상의 품질을 탄생시켜 이미 해외 명품 브랜드 본사에서도 직접적으로 연락을 취할 정도이고 몇 개의 브랜드에서는 공식 A/S 지정업체로 선정될 정도로 실력을 인정받고 있다. 처음 이호웅 대표를 포함해 4명의 전문가들이 서현동에서 시작했지만 2007년 브랜드들의 요청으로 인해 청담동에 본사를 이전했다. 현재는 본사인 청담점과 분당점, 현대본점으로 이뤄진 최고의 수선업체로 알려져 있다. 이호웅 대표는 당시 국내 최고라 불리는 수입명품 수선업체의 관리자로 있었던 노하우를 바탕으로 이미 실력을 인정받은 테크니션이었다. 그렇기에 최고의 자재와 기술력을 바탕으로 10년의 짧은 역사에 비해 이미 최고라는 말을 듣고 있었다. 총 38명의 직원과 장인들로 구성 된 서현사에서는 한 달에 새로 태어나는 명품이 약 3~4000개 정도다. “그 수선과정이 굉장히 섬세합니다. 기계가 아닌 손으로 한땀, 한땀 이뤄지기에 적게는 10분에서 하루, 이틀이 걸리는 작업도 존재하죠. 명품 제품들을 95% 가까이 복원해 내기 위해 독일제 명품 실은 물론, 가죽도 명품에 맞춘 최고의 가죽을 사용합니다. 거기에 최소 20~50년 이상의 경력을 지닌 장인들의 기술력이 더해지기에 사랑받고 있는 것 같다”고 이 대표는 전했다. 

서현사는 국내에서 유일하게 구찌(gucci) 본사와 AS지정업체로 계약을 체결했다. 구찌에서는 매년 서현사를 방문해 품질을 점검하고 수선에 필요한 자재를 지원한다. 명품이라는 말에 어울리는 꼼꼼한 점검이지만 서현사의 기술력이 바탕이 되었기에 가능한 일이었다. 이 밖에도 디올, 코치, 펜디, 프라다, 버버리, 생로랑, 발렌시아가, 불가리, 보테가 베네타 등 백화점 면세점 등에 입점돼 있는 각종 수입명품브랜드는 물론 각 브랜드의 개별매장과 개인고객들에게도 수선서비스를 제공하고 있다. 

국내를 넘어서게 될 그들의 이야기 

이호웅 대표는 두 가지의 목표를 세우고 차근차근 계획을 세우고 있다. 첫 번째로 국내 최초로 명품 수선 센터를 건립해 그곳에서 원스톱으로 모든 것들이 이뤄지게끔 한다는 것이다. 또한 보다 전문적으로 준비해 차후에는 국내 뿐 아니라 가까운 일본과 중국에 진출해 대한민국의 기술력을 알리겠다는 목표를 두고 있다. “사실 해외에서 발생되는 A/S건으로도 브랜드들에게 의뢰를 받았으나 통관이나 배송 등의 문제로 무산된 적이 있다. 그 과정들을 보완해 해외 진출을 준비할 것”이라고 이 대표는 밝혔다. 

두 번째 목표는 바로 산업을 이끌어갈 인재들을 위한 일들이다. 이미 유럽에서는 장인을 꿈꾸는 이들을 위한 발판을 마련하고 있지만 국내는 그런 활동이 미비하다는 것. 현재에도 젊은층들이 업계에 부족해 맥이 끊기고 있어 그것을 막기 위해 학교를 설립해 보다 체계적으로 기술자들을 배출하겠다는 것이다. 

이렇듯 단순한 기업의 형태가 아닌 사회적인 역할에도 충실하겠다고 하는 서현사. 언젠가 이호웅 대표와 그들의 열정이 국내를 넘어 해외에서도 선전할 수 있는 날을 기대해본다.

SeoHyeon Repair Center was established in Seohyeon village, Seoul in 2004. It boasts Korea's top bushellers and focus on restoration rather than reform. As they create the best quality products, the head office of global fashion luxury brands are trying to contact them and some of the brands appointed the center as their official A/S service center. Four experts including Lee started the business in Seohyeon village but moved to Chungdam village in 2007 in response to the brands' request. It now has three stores; Chungdam(head office), Bundang branch, and Hyundai(main store). Lee used to work as the manager for the top imported luxury goods repair company in Korea so his technique was already proved. SeoHyeon Repair Center has 38 staff and makes 3,000 to 4,000 restored luxury goods daily. Lee said "the repairing process is extremely delicate. It is carried out manually so it takes from 10 minutes to one or two days to complete. We use top quality German threads and the best leather in order to restore the goods to 95% of its original state. And we add our staff's 20 to 50 year old know-how to the products and I think that is why the customers love us." 

SeoHyeon Repair Center signed an agreement with GUCCI as the sole A/S center in South Korea. GUCCI visits the center yearly to check the quality of the products and to provide the materials needed. Though GUCCI is doing professional check suitable for its global name but it was not possible without SeoHyeon Repair Center's skills. Alongside this, the center is providing their repair services for Christian Dior, COACH, FENDI, PRADA, Burberry, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, BVLGARI, Bottegaveneta and individual branches & customers.

Their story to cross the world.

Lee has two goals. Firstly, he would like to build a luxury goods repair center for the first time in Korea to provide one-stop services. He would like to enter the Japanese and Chinese markets to spread the Korea's technical skills. Lee said "we actually have received A/S requests happening overseas but we could not carry out due to the customs and delivery matters. We will supplement these processes in order to enter the markets overseas." Secondly, he would like to cultivate people of talent. Europeans are preparing a foothold for those who want to be a busheller but there is not any such activities in Korea. Currently, the industry is experiencing lack of young people and Lee would like to establish a school to produce many men of distinguished talent. This can mean that SeoHyeon Repair Center is faithful to their social role. Power Korea looks forward to seeing the day their passion will shine overseas.
