“역경속에서 이뤄낸 성과로 개인투자자들의 나침반이 되겠다”

행운이 아닌 노력으로 이뤄진 값진 열매를 공유하다

국가의 원동력은 지금의 청년들에게 달려있다. 모두들 성공을 원하지만 국가전체의 활력을 잃은체 자신만의 길을 찾지 못하는 안타까운 상황이다. 또한 모두들 꿈을 정하고 돈을 버는 게 아니라 돈을 먼저 생각하고 꿈을 결정하는 형색이다. 그렇다면 여기 하나의 이야기에 주목해보자.

“여러 아르바이트를 전전하며 마련한 300만원을 가지고 주식을 시작하였지만 모두 잃었다. 그 후 절에 들어가 나름의 공부를 시작해 자신만의 투자스타일을 적립. 1년 만에 100억이라는 재산을 벌어들이는 등, 이후 수많은 개인투자자들의 신화가 되었다.”

이러한 문구만 읽어보면 작가의 상상력이라고 치부할 수도 있지만 실존인물의 실제이야기이기 때문에 우리에 더욱 와닿는다. 또한 자세히 그의 얘기를 들여다보면 그의 신화는 단순히 행운이 아닌 철저한 노력으로 이뤄진 값진 열매이다. 그 또한 소액으로 시작해서 투자하는 개인투자자로 시작했기 때문에 개인투자자들의 입장을 잘이해할 수 있어 업계 1위의 투자자문사가 되었다. “나의 이익을 챙기기 보다는 사람들에게 먼저 도움을 주고 싶다는 마인드가 곧 회사의 경쟁력이 됐다고 생각한다”고 말하는 영원한 개미들의 멘토 복재성 대표를 만나 그의 이야기를 이달의 탑이슈로 선정하여 인터뷰를 진행했다. 

어려운 역경을 이겨낸 그의 이야기를 주목하자

  복재성 대표의 이러한 성공신화는 개인투자자들뿐만 아니라 언론에서도 주목하였다. 당시 대다수 언론에서는 그의 성공신화를 연일 보도할 정도로 화제가 되었으며 여러 방송국에서도 앞다퉈 그를 섭외하였다. 수많은 방송에서 100억 부자로 출연한 그는 한순간에 유명인사가 되었다. 이렇게 세간의 관심을 끌게 된 이유는 어려운 역경에서 ‘신화’로 다시 씌여진 그의 인생이야기에 사람들이 공감했기 때문이다. 실제로 그는 부유한 집안에 태어나지 못하여, 투자금 역시 스스로 만들어야 했다. 어린나이에 일할 곳이 마땅치 않았던 그는 주식공부를 하면서 아르바이트를 전전하며 열심히 돈을 모아 그 돈으로 주식투자를 시작하였다. 그는 모사이트에서 열리는 애널리스트와 일반인들 간의 실전투자대회에서 3개월 간 1등을 차지했다. 스스로의 실력으로 난관을 극복해서 수많은 성공스토리를 이때부터 스스로 쓰기 시작한것이다. 하지만 그는 성공 후 모두의 생각과는 다른 길을 선택했다. 그의 이야기는 지난 2006년 고액연봉의 애널리스트를 스스로 은퇴하면서 시작된다. 그는 슈퍼개미로 성공 후 애널리스트로 스카웃 되면서 23세 대한민국 최연소 애널리스트라는 기록과 함께 활동을 시작하게 되었고 사람들이 기대했던 만큼 활동 당시에도 베스트 전문가로 선발되는 등 그만의 커리어를 쌓는 과정중에 있었다. 복재성 대표는 “대한민국 최연소 애널리스트로서 부와 명예를 모두 가질 수 있었지만 회사의 이익을 위해 일해야만 하는 애널리스트의 생활에 회의를 느끼고 증권사에서 비전을 느낄 수 없었다. 새로운 꿈을 찾아 은퇴를 결심하고 나만의 ‘나눔’방식이 무엇인지에 대해 고민했다”고 말했다. 

VIP환불제도, 세상이 좀더 믿고 사는 사회가 되길 바라며 도입했다

  ‘20대 슈퍼개미’로 주목받기 시작했을 무렵 그는 보다 많은 사람들에게 주식 정보를 제공하기 위해 카페를 개설하여 매일 무료로 자신의 종목을 추천해주기 시작했다. 복재성 대표는 “개미투자자들이 가장 중요시 해야하는 사항은 종목선택에 있다. 종목을 보는 눈이 없기 때문에 루머에 현혹되기 쉽다”며 추천의도에 대해 설명했다. 대한민국 최고 슈퍼개미의 추천종목을 볼 수 있는데 그것도 무료로 볼 수 있다고 하니 당연히 많은 사람들이 가입했다. 더구나 다른 카페와 달리 등업제도없이 가입만 하면 바로 볼 수 있어 이 부분도 영향을 주었다. 그런데 한가지 놀라운 사실은 그의 카페 회원수가 Daum 카페에만 무려 72만명이 넘게 가입한 점이다. 이 수치는 왠만한 인기 연예인의 팬카페 회원 수보다 2배이상 많은 회원수다. 연예인은 호감도에 따라 가입자가 늘어나지만 주식카페는 신뢰도에 따라 가입자를 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 압도적인 회원수는 그의 신뢰도에 대한 반증이라 볼 수 있다. 또한 무료추천종목 뿐 아니라 손실로 너무 힘들어 자신에게 직접 체계적인 관리를 받고 싶어하는 사람들을 위해 J.S투자자문이라는 회사를 설립해 카페에서 VIP회원이라는 명칭으로 신청을 받아 직접 관리해 주고 있다. 물론 VIP회원에 가입하려면 회비를 내야한다. 하지만 주식시장의 핵심은 신중한 판단을 위한 정확하고 신속한 정보확보에 있기 때문에 주식투자자들 모두 신뢰할 수 있는 정보를 원한다. 그에 따라 수반되는 비용을 지불하는것은 당연한 일이다. 핵심은 ‘신뢰할 수 있는’정보이냐? 이다. 그리고 그에 대한 책임이 뒷받침돼야 한다. 그렇기에 J.S투자자문은 VIP회원 가입 후 손실이 발생하게 될 경우 회비 전액(100%) 환불해주는 책임을 지고 있다.   복재성 대표 혼자 시작한 <주식투자로 100억 만들기>는 이제 하나의 카페가 아닌 개인투자자들의 동고동락을 같이 하는 회사로 변모했다. 규모가 바뀌면 시스템도 바뀌어야 한다. 그중 시스템을 운영할때는 대표의 리더십을 바탕으로한 인재발탁이 핵심이다. 그는 애널리스트로 활동한점이 많은 도움이 됐다고 밝혔다. 복재성 대표는 “사람을 뽑을때도, 실질적으로 한단계 한단계 올라가야 한다는 철칙이 있다. 지금의 시스템은 대기업시스템이다. 조그만한 대기업을 만든것이다. 처음에는 시스템구축에 많은 비용이 들겠지만 최종적으로 효율과 경비를 생각한다면 또 직원들 스스로에게 책임감을 줄 수 있는 시스템을 고민한 결과다"고 밝혔다. 또한 그의 고민은 여기서 멈추지 않았다. 스스로가 교육에 대한 갈증을 느꼈던 경험을 바탕으로 그가 현장에서 직접체험하고 습득한 노하우를 개인투자자들에게 전하기 위해 J.S증권아카데미를 설립했다. 복재성 대표는 “J.S증권아카데미는 전문적이고 정확한 정보를 제공하기 위해 시작한 교육사업이다. 주식 성공사례를 많이 만들어 나보다 성공하는 사람들이 많이 나오길 바란”고 전했다. 주식투자의 어려움을 본인 스스로 알기 때문에 더욱 공감할수 있는 비전이었다. 인터뷰를 정리하면서 그는 “어려운 여건에 있던 사람들이, 절망에서 희망의 길로 도약하길 바란다. 많은 사람들에게 희망을 선사하며 실패하더라도 다시 일어날 수 있는 용기를 북돋아 주고 싶다”고 말하는 그를 보며 그의 성공이 행운이 아닌 노력으로 이뤄진 값진 열매 라는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

The driving force of a nation depends on young people. Everybody wants success, but regretfully they cannot find their way and the nation seems to have lost its energy. Everybody seems to think money first and then decides their dream but not the other way round. If so, let us pay attention to a story here.

"I saved 3 million won($2,800) by working at a variety of occupations, invested the money in stock and lost it all. I went to a buddhist temple to find my own investment style and earned 10 billion won($9m) in one year and became a legend of private investors."

We might think it is an imagination of an author but it is a true story. If we look into the story, we can find that this legend is not about a luck but about his strenuous efforts. Because he also started as a private investor with a small sum at first, he understands very well about their situation and eventually became an investment advisor for them. Jaesung Bok says "to have a mind to help other people first rather than to focus on his own profit became the competitiveness of my company." Power Korea has met Bok, who is a truthful mentor of private investors, and had an interview as our top issue of the month.

Let us pay attention to his story which overcame adversity.

 Bok's success story was in the spotlight from both media and private investors. The media reported his success story day after day and many broadcasting stations were scrambling to liaise with him. He appeared on the TV as a millionaire and became famous in a split second. But the reason he became famous was that people sympathized with his life story. He was actually born to a not well-to-do family and had to make the investment fund on his own. There were not many places he could work as he was still young at that time, but he did various part time jobs to save money and started to invest. He kept the first place for 3 months at an internet site which was holding investment competition between analysts and normal people. He started his success story from this time on. But he chose his own way different from what most people might take after success. His story then actually started when he retired from his high earning analyst position in 2006. After his success he was offered an analyst position and became the Korea's youngest analyst at the age of 23 and built up his career. Bok said "I could have the wealth and fame as the youngest analyst but I felt doubts about the life of analysts who have to work for the benefit of company and I couldn't see any vision. I then decided to leave and thought about the ways of sharing."

VIP Refund System, introduced in the hope that people trust each other.

 By the time he was famous for 'super private investor in his twenties', he opened an online cafe to provide stock information and to recommend his stock items for people. Bok explained "the most important thing for private investors is choosing the right stock items. When they don't have an eye to see them, they easily depend on rumors." A lot of people joined his cafe on hearing the news that they could see the recommended stock items free of charge. Unlike many online cafes, Bok made it that all members can see the stock items without any cumbersome membership upgrade. Amazingly, 750,000 people joined his cafe. This figure is double the number of many celebrities' cafes. Celebrities' cafes gather their members based on one's likeability but for stock cafes, reliability is the key to gather members. This overwhelming number of membership is the evidence of his reliability. He then established JS Co. Ltd to provide systematic advice and management for those who want the service among his cafe members in the name of VIP. Of course people have to pay a fee to be a VIP. But it is the key of stock market to have the quick and accurate acquisition of information and for this reason investors want trustworthy information and people pay for it. In response, Bok takes full responsibility when his VIP clients lose their money after joining the service and he refunds 100% of membership fee to them. When asked about the purpose of this VIP Refund System, Bok said "there have never been any company who refunded the membership fee when their clients lose their money. I hope people take my intention with a good sense. I hope that the world will become a better place where people can trust each other and that's why I introduced this system. And of course I prepared a system to prevent black consumer." The purpose Bok established his company is to help private investors, but not to make profits for already rich people. Because of this reason, Bok does not accept readmission if the principal reaches more than three times after recovering the principal. The number of users of JS Co. Ltd has been on the rise, even more than major stock sites, due to the company's ability to make their clients recover their principal. Bok was recognized for his contribution and has been awarded various prizes from numerous organizations, institutions and media.

I want to be a compass unshaken in all circumstances for private investors.

 Bok's <Making $10m in Stock Investment> cafe is now turned into a company which share the sweets and bitters of investors' life. If scale changes, system also has to change. And when running a system, choosing a man of talent based on representative's leadership is the key. Bok said that his career as an analyst has been of great help. Bok added that "there is an iron-bound rule that when choosing a person it has to be done step by step. The current system is major company system. It is to make a small major company. There might be a lot of costs to pay to build the system at first, but I thought more about efficiency and expense as well as the system which can give staff responsibility." His thinking has not stopped here. He established JS Stock Academy based on his experience of his thirst for learning to provide his know-how for private investors. "JS Stock Academy is an educational business to provide professional and accurate information. I hope that many people will be more successful than me through making as mush successful cases in stock investment as possible." It was an agreeable vision as he knows the difficulty of stock investment. While closing up the interview, Bok said "I hope people who are in despair will leap into hope. I would like to give encouragement to people so that they can stand up again from the failure." And Power Korea could see that his success is the fruits of his strenuous efforts but not a luck.
