현장행정과 소통행정 강화, 시민을 최우선에 두는 시정 펴겠다
거제시는 한려해상 국립공원의 중심으로 세계적인 조선과 해양산업의 메카로 널리 알려져 있다. 지난 지방선거에서 재선에 성공한 권민호 시장은 시민들의 삶의 질 향상과 조선, 해양, 관광 거제시의 위상을 높이는데 최선을 다하고 있다. 이번 안정적인 ‘민선 6기 시정’의 성공적인 구축을 위해 우선 체제정비에 심혈을 기울이고 있다. 권 시장은 지난달 4일 열린 ‘8월 확대간부회의’에서 시민을 최우선에 두는 시정을 펼쳐나가겠다고 밝혔다. 민선 6기 공약사업으로 안심거제, 소통거제를 내세웠다. 특히 거제미래 100년을 위한 약속으로 현장행정을 실천하면서 시민의 삶을 어떻게 하면 행복하게 변화시킬 수 있는지 고민하여 줄 것을 주문했다. 권 시장의 신념은 공직사회가 변해야 한다는 데 초점을 맞추고 있다. 소속 직원 모두 치열한 문제의식과 창의적인 발상이 시 정책으로 이어져야 한다면서, 원칙을 지키고 비정상적인 관행과 규제를 바로 잡겠다고 했다. 최근 서아프리카 지역에서 창궐, 대규모 사망자를 내는 치사율이 70%가 넘는 에볼라 바이러스와 관련하여, 우리시와 무관하게 생각할 일은 아니다면서, 보건소장이 각별한 관심을 가지고 바이러스 전파상황을 예의 주시해야 할 필요가 있다고 주문했다. 이어, 거제시보건소 정기만 소장이 에볼라 바이러스에 대한 설명을 통해 경각심을 심어 주기도 했다.
취임사를 통해 밝혔듯이 희망찬 거제미래 100년을 열어 가며 시민이 행복한 ‘해피거제’를 반드시 만들기 위해 사곡만 국가지원 해양플랜트 특화산단 지정과 해양플랜트 산업지원센터 구축, 한국해양대학교 거제캠퍼스 유치 등이 이번 민선6기 시정의 과제가 될 것으로 예상된다. 최근 정부의 쌀시장 전면 개방에 따른 농민들의 부담을 논의하기 위해 이봉철 거제시쌀전업농회장을 만났다. 이 자리에서 전업농 모두가 우리 쌀 산업의 혁신을 위해 지혜와 힘을 모아야 할 때라고 강조하면서 이날 건의된 산물벼 건조비 지원, 벼건조기 부착 집진기 설치, 비료 살포기 구입 등은 2015년 당초예산에 우선 반영하여 농업인 경쟁력 향상에 최선을 다해 나가겠다고 말했다.

Geoje city is widely known as the mecca of global shipbuilding and ocean industry surrounded by Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park. Minho Kwon, the reelected mayor, is doing his best to raise their status in shipbuilding, ocean and tourism, and to improve their citizens' quality of life. He is focusing on the improvement of the systems to successfully build up the municipal government. He said at the chief staff meeting on 4 last month that his top priority is the citizens as his election pledges are 'safe Geoje' and 'communication Geoje'. With his promise for 'the future of Geoje for next 100 years', he asked the chief staff to think hard about how we can make our citizens happy. He believes that the bureaucratic society has to change. He said that the staff's critical mind and creative ideas have to be reflected in the administration, and he will adjust irregular customs and regulations. Regarding Ebola virus, which is prevalent in W?st ?frica with its fatality rate of more than 70%, he said that we must not ignore it and asked director of public health to keep an eye on its spreading situation. And Kiman Geong, the director of Geoje Health Center explained about Ebola virus and aroused its seriousness.
Like Kwon revealed in his inauguration, appointing 'nationally supported Specialized Industrial Complex of Sagokman Offshore Plants', 'building Offshore Plants Industry Supporting Center', and 'inviting Korea Maritime University for Geoje campus' will be the tasks of Geoje city. He met the head of Geoje Rice Association to discuss about the difficulties of farmers caused by the central government's decision on rice market opening. He emphasized that we all have to work together to innovate our rice industry and he will allocate the 2015 budget for drying costs of undried rice, installation fee of rice dryer adhesion dust collectors, and purchasing fertilizer broadcastor.
