'Dunoero', patented for its innovative special education for the talented.

Used as teaching material for more than 200 preschools, well-reputed in US, Australia and Taiwan.

Hyangyeah Park, the CEO of Dunoero

'Seoul ICM 2014(International Congress of Mathematicians)' was held at Seoul recently, and as a result, people's interest in mathematics is increasing. The importance of maths is reinforced by the prominent mathematicians in the event who said "future is the age of mathematics". However, middle & high school students fear maths the most. There is even an expression 'Supoja(those who gave up maths)'. It is time we thought about alternative methods for maths education as maths not only nurtures ability to reason, but also it is important for university entrance exam. Bearing this fact in mind, we need to pay attention on 'Dunoero' known as 'special education for the talented' which inculcates the idea that everybody can do maths with fun. 'Dunoero' is a multi-special education method, patented in 2011 and successfully entered the markets in USA and Australia. It is a qualified method as countries such as Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand showed a strong interest first. Park, who invented 'Dunoero', majored in statistics and has been teaching maths for 17 years. Park is acknowledged for suggesting a new paradigm of maths and Power Korea has met her and listened her vision.

Triggering interest in maths through associated images.

"Korean students' maths abilities are top in the world. But that is only up to high school because they lack in underlying principals. Korea's higher education is far behind Europe or USA because Americans, for example, emphasize underlying principals based on arithmetic operation. If the basic is not sold, the truth is exposed in maths, if not arithmetic." Everybody can talk about the importance of maths but everybody fears and this is the reality of current education. It is an abuse of teaching by rote which aims fast learning and the result of Japanese style monotonous repeat education. Children lost their interests in maths and gave it up. Park said "it is not because maths is wrong but the methods of teaching. I invented 'Dunoero' to renew interests in maths for children." Her study method starts at arithmetic. Arithmetic is the four fundamental arithmetic operations which means addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and these are the basic of maths. The key of 'Dunoero' is the process of connecting numbers to their relevant images, and through these associated images we can naturally arouse interests in maths. Children who used 'Dunoero' showed an excellence and they were selected as the talented.

Improving absorbtion level in maths, leading into mathematics genius.

"Parents can easily find signs of genius in their children. Why are children genius? Because they absorb things as they are without any prejudice and objections. 'Dunoero' induces children to have interests in maths themselves." In other words, it accelerates children's absorbtion level. It is a programme that activates the potential capabilities of forebrain to increase total intuitive thinking power. If we use this method, our speed of calculation, concentration, understanding and creativity get improved, and logical thought, synthetic thinking power and problem solving skills get upgraded, and as a result, we can also do well in other areas. According to KoreaNeuro Feedback's brain wave analysis data, there is a clear difference between children who learn by rote and those who learn by 'Dunoero'. The latter children's absorbtion level improved 30% more and their stress decreased about 30% less than former children. It is proved that children can naturally build up interests in maths by even changing their approach to maths.

Discovering talents in our children.

"Most children who do not have natural abilities in maths lack 2%. But this can be solved by arithmetic. If genius is to be born, the talented is to be made. In other words, one cannot give a birth to a genius, but one can raise a talented." Another problem of current maths education is that it is only for the upper one percent students. Existing abacus calculation and mental arithmetic are inefficient methods which only hard working talented students can succeed. We need a method that children can learn maths easy and interesting so that they can do it like speaking. If everybody can learn with an innovative method, that can be an alternative. That is why 'Dunoero' is in the spotlight from many school parents. What we need now is a method that everybody can do it well in general. 'Dunoero' leads children to do 2 figures arithmetic quickly rather than 4 figures multiplication which is rarely used. To do this, addition and subtraction have to be preceded, and when multiplication is established, division will be acquired by itself. Park said "I devised a wide and flexible teaching method for later. Parents can find whether their children are talented in maths if they try 'Dunoero'. Parents can prepare for their children and develop them innovatively."

Winning an achievement award from World Korean Foundation.

When asked about why maths education should start from nursery school, Park said "Dunoero can easily soak into children. It is about playing with numbers naturally like a language, and we can discover children's talents at an early stage." Thanks to her efforts, more than 200 kindergartens nationwide are using 'Dunoero' as their teaching material. "20,000 kindergarten children (40,000 if included parents) are using Dunoero'. It holds a symbolic meaning. It helps children to have a brain that can do multitasking, and also helps other learning." With this passion, Park successfully entered the markets in UAS and Australia. Park also have won an Achievement Award for her contributions and achievements from World Korean Foundation. Recently, she has found a market in Taiwan also. She is running a free course for regional managers and teachers who visit her twice a month, alongside visiting the kindergartens with the directors of education boards and heads of departments to train the teachers. Thanks to this professional education system, 'Dunoero' is traveling from mouth to mouth among school parents. Power Korea is looking forward to seeing an honorable moment in which Park wins Fields Medal for her 'Dunoero'.
