기능성 텍스타일 분야에서 세계를 호령하다
지난 7월29일 산업통산자원부는 향후 3년 내 제조업의 대대적인 혁신과 경제활성화를 이루기 위한 ‘민·관 합동 제조혁신위원회’를 대한상공회의소에서 발족하고 회의를 진행했다. 산업통산자원부 장관과 대한상공회의소 회장이 공동위원장을 맡았으며 정부, 경제단체, 정보통신 융합, 공정혁신, 소프트 파워, 주력산업, 학계·연구계 등 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 위원회에 참여하여 회의를 진행했다. 장기적인 경기침체에서 벗어나 재도약의 발판으로 거듭나기 위해서는 제조업이 혁신 중심의 경쟁력으로 바꿔야 한다고 판단해서다. 그만큼 제조업은 내수경제 활성화에 중요한 역할을 하며, 제조업과 서비스업을 연계하여 발전시키는 것이 한국경제를 튼실하게 다져 장기적인 경기침체를 벗어나는 길인 것이다. 본지에서는 최근 세계에서 두번째로 기능성 고탄력 직물인 ‘Mesh Fabric’를 자체 기술로 개발해 세계 시장을 두드리고 있는 인천의 강소기업 (주)윈텍스의 산업현장을 집중 조명하고자 한다.

(주)원텍스는 1999년 1월1일 설립한 회사로 가구용, 인테리어용, 고탄성 메쉬, 무독성직물, 준불연 직물 등의 텍스타일을 전문으로 개발하는 기업이다. 이 회사는 그동안 지속적인 연구개발과 혁신으로 다양한 고품질의 텍스타일을 생산하며 품질을 인정받아 내수시장은 물론 해외시장까지 진출해 성공해서 직물제조업의 선두주자로 그 역할을 다해 왔다. 회사의 주력품으로는 2000년대 초에 개발에 성공하여 양산화를 이룬 신 개념 난연직물인 휴먼텍스와 고탄력 직물인 메쉬가 있다. 먼저 휴먼텍스(hummantex)는 화재 시 유독성 가스(브롬)이 발생하지 않아 유독가스에 의한 희생을 막아주며, 잔여물질이 거의 발생하지 않아 리사이클이 가능한 제품이다. 또한 당당히 소방검정공사의 방염테스트에 합격하여 방염필증을 부착하였다. 최근 개발 완료한 ‘뉴 휴먼텍스(New hummantex)’는 화재가 발생해 800도 이상의 열에서도 10분간 불에 타지 않고 원형을 유지하는 패브릭으로 화재 초기 시 화재를 덮어 산소를 차단하는 소화의 용도와 화재가 상당한 부분 진행됐을 경우에는 화재의 진화 속도를 늦추는 역할까지 하는 등 화재로 인한 인명피해를 최소화하는데 큰 역할을 할 예정이다. ‘메쉬(Mesh)'는 최근 사무용 기능성 의자의 대표적인 소재로 채택되어 업계 트렌드를 이끌고 있는 소재중 하나다. 메쉬는 흔히 고탄력 직물로 알려져 있으며, 촘촘한 그물망처럼 매우 작은 구멍이 뚫린 천으로 탄력적이고 신축성이 강한 특성이 있다. 원텍스는 이 ‘Mesh Fabric’를 세계에서 두 번째로 자체 기술로 개발해 북미, 동남아시아를 비롯해 유럽, 중국 등의 해외시장 개척에 나서고 있다. 한국에서는 ‘메쉬’가 거의 의자에만 사용 되고 있으나 미국과 같이 MESH FABRIC이 널리 보급이 된 나라에서는 자동차 시트, 장애인용 침대 시트, 기능성 침대 시트와 같이 사람의 하중을 아무리 받아도 지장이 없는 그런 곳에 사용이 되고 있으며, 디자인적인 부분이 우수하여 인테리어용으로도 각광을 받고 있다. 연간200만 야드 이상을 생산하는 동종 업계 최고의 생산량 자랑
현재 인천 남동공단에는 윈텍스의 본사가 위치하고 있다. 본사에는 관리본부, 영업본부 및 수출 전용 생산팀으로 구성되어 있고, 지리적인 요인으로 국내 내수 시장의 인프라 구축의 장점과 해외 수출 건 발생시 인천공항과 인천항등으로 빠른 시간 내에 수출할 수 있어 최적의 요건을 갖추고 있다. 윈텍스의 지사는 구미 산업단지에 위치해 있는데, 해당 공장의 연간 생산량은 연간 약200만 야드 이상의 생산을 할 수 있는 능력을 보유하고 있어 동일 업계에서는 최고의 생산량을 자랑하고 있다.
IMF라는 국가적 경제난으로 인해 상당한 어려움을 겪고 있을 시기에 위기가 곧 기회라는 신념하에 사람이 우선인 가족적인 회사를 목표로 설립한 (주)윈텍스 고인배 대표는 “사람이 우선인 기업을 만들려고 노력한다. 성실하고 정직하며 화합하며 일할 수 있는 사람을 인재상으로 삼고 있다” 고 말했다. 최근 장기적인 경기침체에 정부에서도 제조업이 살아나야 경제가 회복한다고 강조하며 제조업 혁신 3.0 전략을 발표하고 모든 역량을 쏟아내려고 하고 있다. 고 대표는 자사와 같은 중소기업이 강소기업으로 거듭나기 위해서 가장 부족한 것이 홍보이기 때문에 여러 가지 방법이 있으나, 해외의 대기업과 거래를 이뤄내기 위해 전시회와 같은 교류의 장을 통해 서로의 대한 정보를 갖고 난 후 거래를 하는 것이 하나의 방법일 수 있다고 의견을 제시하며 많은 기회를 가질 수 있도록 정부에서 지원을 해주기를 원했다.
앞으로 기능성 텍스타일 분야에서 세계적인 기술력을 확보한 강소기업으로 거듭나겠다고 다짐하는 고 대표의 말에서 한국 제조산업의 밝은 미래를 엿볼 수 있었다. (주)윈텍스의 앞으로의 행보가 기대된다.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy started 'Public and Private Joint Committee on Production Innovation' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on July 29 in order to achieve economic recovery and innovation in the manufacturing industry within 3 years. The minster of Trade, Industry and Energy was co-chaired by the head of KCCI, and specialists from various fields such as government, economic organizations, information & communications, process innovation, soft power, key industries and academia participated in the meeting. They decided that the manufacturing industry has to be changed to innovation-centered competitiveness in order to reborn as a foothold to leap over economic slump. The manufacturing industry is important for revitalizing domestic economy and developing the industry with service industry is the only way to deviate long-term economic depression. Power Korea will focus on Incheon's small hidden champion Wintex which has developed high-elastic texture 'Mesh Fabric' for the second time in the world with their own technology.
Developing Nonflammable fabric Humantex and high-elastic fabric Mesh
Wintex was established on January 1, 1999. They develop high-elastic Mesh, nontoxic fabric, semi-nonflammable fabric for furniture and interior materials. They have been producing high quality textiles with continuous R&D and innovation. They achieved recognition in domestic market as well as markets abroad. Their main goods are advanced concept nonflammable fabric Humantex, which was invented in 2000, and high-elastic fabric Mesh. Humantex does not produce toxic gas (brom) when burning so that it can prevent serious damages and it can also be recycled as it does not make remnants. Humantex passed Fire Prevention Test conducted by Korean Fire Equipment Inspection Cooperation. The recent development 'New Humantex' keeps her form for 10 minutes at 800℃ and functions like a fire extinguisher when fire breaks out and it also slows down the speed of fire when fire has already processed so that it reduces damages for humans. Mesh, on the other hand, is one of the trendy materials which has been chosen as the representative fabric for functional chairs used in offices. Mesh is known as high-elastic fabric which has millions of tiny holes in it like a net sheet and is extremely elastic. Wintex developed this Mesh Fabric for the second time in the world with their own technology and are setting out to find a market abroad such as North America, South-East Asia, Europe and China. Mesh is almost exclusively used in chairs in Korea while the country like US where Mesh fabric came into wide use is using it in various goods such as car sheets, bed sheets for disabled and functional bed sheets that have no problems even if they consistently get weighed down by people. It is also popular for interior as its design is excellent. The Wintex CEO Go said that he is planning to find a market abroad within this year by continuously participating in overseas exhibitions.
Wintex boasts 2 million yards produce per year, number one in the industry
The head office of Wintex is located in Namdong Industrial Complex, Incheon city. There are management headquarter, sales headquarter and production team for export in the head office. Due to its location, it has an optimum condition that they can build up infrastructure in domestic market as well as export their goods swiftly through Incheon International Airport and Harbor. The branch office of Wintex is located in Gumi Industrial Complex and the factory can produce more than 200 yards of fabrics per year and it is number one within the same field. Wintex was established during the IMF in Korea under the slogan 'A crisis is an opportunity'. Go said "I try to make a people first enterprise. For those who are sincere, honest and harmonious are welcome to work with us." Recently, the government has emphasized that manufacturing industry is the key for recovering economy and declared the Innovation 3.0 Strategy for manufacturing industry. Go said "in order for a small & medium company like Wintex to grow into a powerful company, the government's support and promotion are needed. It can be a way to promote our company by participating in overseas exhibitions to get information about large foreign companies at first hand which will then lead to a deal afterwards."
I could have a glimpse of the future of Korea's manufacturing industry by hearing Go's determination to make Wintex a powerful company in functional textile field. I expect growth of Wintex.
