Switch from imagery description to assertive behavior

In 1988, when Kim, Shin-Hyun had his first individual exhibition, the basic language absorbed in his works was close to a direct projection of imagery. The imagery here indicates an image of object in the heart. Imagery hardened as one concept as images of objects stamped on minds after passing through humans¡¯ perception function such as filtered paper (Tabolta Tasa) becomes to be more detailed as a symbol by joining the impulse of art out of a chance. As for Kim, Shin-Hyeon, it must be nature. I think his abstract painting was made by simple and clean touching on to Chinese drawing paper with quiet contemplation over nature like lake, field, mountain, the horizon at sunset, moon and sun. His works finished by oriental painting techniques such as pouring, running the ink or writing roughly are avoiding the description, but rather, it shows the artist¡¯s intention to grasp the essence of the object. Since images come on the canvas were made up by a work of heart, it is not perfect but, it make us feel the shape out of the ambience of all. 

So to speak, they are closer to the mood and the emotion rather than a direct description of trees or lakes. Also, with his recent works, it is not that different from the methodology. However, if there is one think as a difference, there is butterfly and it is a leading material. In terms of technique, there is his new attempt and it is a printed method using paraffin with paper sliding, not expressing light coloring on Chinese drawing paper. Kim, Shin-Hyun¡¯s latest change over his works makes us better understand that it is a painting from a whole meaning out of assorting a genre like western and oriental painting, generally. It means today¡¯s meaning of painting is magnified overly. Free variation with spaces and ink that was regarded as the most important thing so far is working as a weakness since it is limited, but the image composition by pictorial ways is what he is trying newly as an approach of the artist¡¯ changed spirit. Therefore, his new attempt of method in his works is showing fulfilling of collision out of the harmony for each other between materials and matters. This has been embodied by paraffin printed method. With having thick sliding papers as a material, using a feature of colliding with water and oil, overlapping effect of strokes of the brush made a result of a kind of drawing experience in his works. 

Consequently, if previous works were the expression of imagery images regarding of contemplation, his latest works are focused by a visual effect throughout assertive drawings. It is also a distinctive characteristic over the recent works and it seems to be an important motif to develop for his works in the future.
