경희대에 소재한 에이씨케이(주)(이하 ACK) 기업부설연구소에서 연구개발을 통하여 제품을 개발하며, ACK 협력단인 김포대 환경보건연구소에서 실내공기질 측정 등의 환경사업을 통해 쾌적한 환경 조성에 힘쓰고 있는 ACK의 백남현 대표는 (사)한국생활환경협회 사무국장이라는 직함도 가지고 있다. 따라서 주로 방향 사업과 환경 사업을 접목한 제품을 연구 개발하고 있다. 자체 공장을 보유한 환경산업회사 ACK는 방향용품과 바이러스차단용품, 방역, 해충퇴치용품 및 위생용품을 개발 및 판매하는 기업으로서, 건강과 환경을 가장 먼저 고려한 천연성분으로 제품을 만들고 있다. 무소음 휘산탈취기 ‘아로미’, 천연효소를 사용한 인체용 살균세정수 ‘세균박살’ 등으로 인기를 모은 ACK의 대표작 G-Sol은 피부와 호흡기에 유해한 성분을 넣지 않고, 미국 식약청(FDA)과 한국 화학시험연구원의 승인과 인증을 받은 제품이다. 조향 기술에 기반 한 무기물질 합성 공법을 적용한 방향 탈취제이자 항균과 제균 효과를 더한 것이 장점이다. 나노 분자 단위로 분사되어 생활 악취를 개선한 후, 광화학 반응을 통해 공기나 사물에 부유하는 균과 바이러스를 세포 파괴를 이용해 99.99% 제거하는 효과가 있다. 그리고 과일과 꽃을 재현한 14가지 아로마 향기를 취향 따라 고를 수 있다. “앞으로도 향 산업을 업그레이드하면서, 친환경 산업을 발전시킬 것”이라는 백 대표에 따르면 석고보드와 시멘트에서 검출되는 라돈은 검사 결과 해안가 아파트 30층에서도 발견된다고 한다. 보통 많은 가구 수를 검증하기 위해 전용 키트를 주고 3개월 후에 수거하여 정밀기계를 통한 수치로 라돈지도를 만들어 대책을 강구한다고 한다. 실내공기질을 측정하는 ACK에서 보유하고 있는 측정 장비는 1시간 반 정도면 데이터를 측정할 수 있는 고가의 장비로서, 정확한 측정값을 알아보기 좋기에 신뢰를 얻고 있다. 그래서 ACK가 최근 집중하고 있는 사업은 토탈 서비스로서 새집증후군 제거 및 석면비산방지 시공, 그리고 라돈 차단이다. ACK에서는 석면비산방지 작업 시 천정과 벽을 모두 뜯어내는 기존 방식 대신, 집기를 빼지 않아도 되는 시공을 하고 있다. 그래서 석면을 해체하지 않고 비산방지를 한다는 법령개정에도 유리한 조건이다. 그리고 라돈을 측정하여 검출되면 자체 개발한 ‘바이오세라믹’을 페인트처럼 발라 준다. 아울러 백 대표는 ACK의 새집증후군 방지 서비스와 용인대 김영규 교수의 특허기술로 만든 새집증후군분해제 C-Zon을 통해 VOC, 폼알데하이드 같은 유해물질들을 환경부 기준치의 99.99%를 저감하는 효과를 볼 수 있다고 강조했다. 전국 어디서나 전화 한통이면 간편하게 시공을 받을 수 있는 이 서비스는 상담과 방문, 그리고 공간별 청향서비스와 정기적인 모니터링 과정으로 진행된다. 특허를 보유한 기술력으로 환경 산업에 승부하는 ACK는 올해 6월 일본 가스텍에서 전량 수입해왔던 가스 검지관을 한국 최초로 더 정밀하게 국산화시켜 출시하기도 했다.
합리적인 비용, 새로운 아이템공급으로 창업에도 유리해
이미 2011년 하반기 중소기업 브랜드 대상을 수상하며 고객들의 지지를 받은 바 있는 ACK는 연구 개발만큼 우수한 개발품을 널리 알리도록 관리와 홍보 서포트로 전국 50여개 지사를 관리하고 있다. 그래서 백 대표는 매달 호서대학원에서 사업설명회를 갖는다. 본사에서 개발한 제품들을 공급받아 지사에서 개별 업소를 찾아 관리하는 방식으로, 종종 경영 난관에 부딪친 타 업체들을 인수받기도 한다. 또한 백 대표는 “일반 영업사원보다는 관련업체 출신 관계자가 영업을 할 때, 고객에게 신뢰와 믿음을 주고 계약을 성사하기도 좋다”며 단기간에 영업 실적을 높인 비결을 소개하기도 했다. 또한 새로운 제품 개발에도 열의를 보이고 있어서, 실용적인 제품들을 출시했거나 준비 중이다. ‘장타스프레이(가칭)’는 골프 시 훅이나 스핀을 유발하는 마찰을 줄여주는 업소용 스프레이 제품으로서, 자체 테스트를 통해 비거리를 상승하는 효과를 얻었다고 한다. 또한 반복 세탁에도 효과가 오래 남아있는 의복용 인체 무해 항균제도 개발 중이며, 장시간 더운 곳에서 일하는 근무자들이 신발 속에 뿌리면 위생과 탈취효과를 볼 수 있는 제품을 개발했다. 이 제품을 응용하여 군인들이 워커 속에 뿌릴 수 있는 휴대용 항균탈취제의 출시도 앞두고 있다. 또한 최근 출시된 토닥(TODOC)은 스프레이식 휴대용 화장실변기 천연 살균제로 젊은 여성들에게 큰 인기를 얻을 것으로 예상된다. 현재 환경 산업을 ‘소자본 무점포로 운영할 수 있는 고부가가치 산업’이라고 자부하는 백 대표는 영업 기술로 성공한 것을 계기로 창업한 자신의 노하우를 젊은 창업 희망자들에게 꾸준히 전수하고 있다.

Behind the human history was what was called “a war with bad odors.” Hundreds of years ago, being annoyed to change their clothes of long robe, people burned incense or sprayed Eau de toilette in full to compromise their sense of smell only to pay dearly with more exposure to diseases. In modern times, on the other hand, aromatics emphasizing the effect of Detox and phytoncide have appeared as an alternative but only with a problem in durability or failure to reflect personal taste. Again, when they solved this with a simple spray aromatic deodorant, it involved a new problem of exposing environmental hormone. Aroma in natural ingredients and antibacterial effect killing two birds with one stone
Baek Nam-hyun, president of ACK develops products through R&D at company-affiliated institute located at Kyunghee Univ., making efforts for agreeable environment through environmental projects, such as measuring interior air quality, etc. at Kimpo Univ. Environment & Health Institute, a cooperation agency. He is also serving as secretary-general of Korea Living Environment Association. In this regard, ACK is chiefly engaging in R&D on products combining aroma and environment businesses. ACK, an environmental industry company possessed of its own plant is making products with natural ingredients in major consideration of health and environment as a developer and seller of aroma, virus blocker, disinfection, pesticides and hygiene products. ACK’s hit item G-Sol drawing popularity with noiseless evaporating deodorant ‘Aromie’ and ‘Segyunbaksal’ (bacterial eradicator), a bodily disinfection washer using natural enzyme, is a product that received approval and certification from FDA and Korea Testing & Research Institute for Chemical Industry (KOTRC) without putting toxic ingredients in the skin and respiratory organ. It has strength in being an aromatic deodorant with application of inorganic synthesis based on aroma technology adding antibacterial and removal effects. Being sprayed in nano-molecule unit, this product improves on bad odors in livelihood and then has the effect of removing 99% of the bacteria and viruses floating in the air and things through photochemical reaction using cell destruction. According to president Baek, who says, “We will upgrade aroma industry for the future while developing eco-friendly industry,” radon detected from gypsum plaster board and cement is also found from a 30th-floor apartment on the seashore. Usually, to test on lots of households, they give exclusive-use kits, collect them three months later and make a radon map in numbers through precise machinery to take measures. ACK-possessed measuring equipment for interior air quality is a high-priced one that can address data in about one and a half hour, winning confidence for its performance at finding accurate measures. As a result, ACK is recently focusing on total service business including removal of sick house syndrome, construction for preventing asbestos dispersal and intercept of radon. This is also a condition favorable to the legal revision toward preventing scattering without taking asbestos to pieces. Engaging in environmental industry with patented technology, ACK launched gas detector tube, which had been imported from Japan’s GasTech for all needs, for the first time in Korea by localizing it more precisely.
Reasonable costs and new item favorable to a startup
Already in the latter half of 2011, ACK received the support from customers winning the grand prize for smaller enterprise brand and is controlling 50 branches around the country in support for managing and promoting their excellent developments as hard as R&D. In this relation, President Baek holds a business presentation at Hoseo Graduate School each month. He often takes over other companies in financial difficulty in the way that a branch visits an individual firm by receiving products developed by the head office. Saying, “I prefer ones from related companies to general salespersons because they can give trust and confidence in business while being better at striking a deal,” he introduced how he had increased business performance in a short period. Besides, being enthusiastic about developing a new product, he has launched practical products or is in preparation to. ‘Long-shot spray (tentative name)’ is a spray product for a shop, which reduces the friction causing hook or spin in golfing, and it is said that the company test has proved the effect of increasing carry. The company is also developing antimicrobial for clothes innocuous to human body whose effect lasts long even after a repeated wash and developed a product with hygiene and deodorant effect when sprayed in the shoes worn by those working in a hot place for a long time. By applying this product, they are soon launching a pocket antibacterial deodorant that solders can spray in their walkers. Besides, recently released Todoc is a spray-type pocket natural disinfectant for toilet expected to win high popularity among young women. President Baek, who is confident that the current environmental industry is ‘a high value-added one we can operate with small capital and non-store marketing,’ is constantly teaching his knowhow to would-be startups based on his success in business skills which led to his foundation.
