체육 꿈나무 육성을 위한 끊임없는 기부 행보 

예산중학교 축구부 후원회장·WBA세계권투협회 범아시아 여성부 회장 이인경 회장

장기화된 경기 불황 속에 들려오는 기업인들의 기부 소식은 언제 들어도 훈훈하다. 이제 기업인들의 사회 공헌활동은 성공한 기업가들이 반드시 갖추어야할 덕목으로 인식되어진다. 실제로 선진국에서는 사회 공헌활동에 앞장선 기업들이 경기 침체 상황에서도 안정적인 성장을 이룬 것으로 보고되고 있다. 국내에서는 (주)한서개발의 이인경 대표가 체육 분야에 아낌없는 후원을 이어오고 있어 이목을 집중시킨바 있다. 향후 기업의 수익을 100프로까지 사회로 환원해 나가겠다고 밝힌 이 대표를 만나 그의 체육사랑, 지역사랑의 뜨거운 진심을 경청해 본다.

덤으로 사는 인생 더 많이 도우며 살고 싶다

(주)한서개발의 이인경 대표는 어려서부터 운동에 남다른 재능을 보였다. 초등학교와 중학교 시절에는 축구 선수로 활약했고, 고교 시절에는 복싱 선수로 활동하기도 했다. 이후 한 기업의 경영인으로 국가 경제발전에 이바지하면서도 20년간 아마추어 권투 심판을 역임할 정도로 그의 체육사랑은 남달랐다. 현재 그는 WBA세계권투협회 범아시아 여성부 회장직을 맡고 있다. 세계 WBA는 1921년도에 생긴 세계 최초의 권투기구로 알리, 홍수환, 유명우 등이 이 기구의 출신으로 알려져 있다. 이 대표는 여자 권투가 활성화가 되면서 회장직을 제의 받아 2008년 정식으로 취임했다. 지금은 아시아권에서 펼쳐지는 세계타이틀매치와 동양타이틀매치를 주관하며, 세계총회에도 빠짐없이 참석하고 있다. 

이 대표가 체육 분야에 대한 전폭적인 지원을 시작하게 된 계기는 8년 전 아들에게 간이식을 받으면서부터다. 수술하기 전에는 남은 생이 6개월 남짓이라고 했는데 다시 건강하게 살아나니 만감이 교차했다. 특히 자신의 모교를 다니는 아들의 친구와 선생님이 성금을 모아병문안을 왔을 때는 더 깊은 상념에 빠져버렸다. “학창시절에는 선생님들 속도 참 많이 섞이는 학생이었는데 저를 돕겠다고 와 주시니 황송하더라고요. 저는 간 이식 이후의 제 삶이 덤으로 선물 받았다고 생각하는데 그때 남은 인생은 보람 있는 일을 하며 살자고 다짐했던 것 같습니다.” 이 대표에게 가장 보람이 있는 일은 오로지 자신이 사랑하는 체육 분야의 어린 꿈나무들을 지원하는 일이었다. 그들이 얼마나 열악한 환경 속에서 힘겹게 자신의 꿈을 키워나가고 있는지 누구보다도 잘 이해하고 있는 그였기 때문이다. 그리고 자신이 후원을 한다면 마땅히 모교인 예산 중·고등학교가 최우선 되어야한다고 생각했다. 이미 10년 전 중앙초등학교에 버스를 기증한 바 있었던 이 대표는 예산중학교 복싱팀의 버스가 너무 낡은 것을 보고 기쁜 마음으로 차를 쾌척했다. 이후 이 대표는 예산중·고등학교 5개 체육부로 지원의 범위를 더욱 확대해 나갔다. 

지역발전에 이바지 하는 기업으로 거듭날 것  

이 대표는 지금까지 병원 이사장직을 역임하고, 의류업과 건설업 등 다양한 분야에서 종사 해 왔지만 가장 보람을 느끼는 일은 언제나 체육 꿈나무들을 육성하는 일이었다. 특히 그가 후원해 온 예산중학교 축구팀은 2008년에 창단하여 이듬해인 2009년 권역별 충남북주말리그 우승하는 쾌거를 이루었다. 이후 2010년과 2012년 충청남북도 권력리그에서 우승하였고, 2012년에는 눈높이 배 주말리그 전국대회에서 8강 진출하였으며 2013년에는 천안에서 개최된 오룡기배 전국중등축구대회에서 준우승을 차지했다. “물론 더 좋은 성적을 내는 훌륭한 팀도 많지만 전국대회에서 상위권을 기록한 팀들은 대기업에서 1년에 6억씩도 지원 받고 있습니다. 넉넉하지 못한 환경 속에서도 최고의 기량을 가진 선수들과 겨루어 좋은 성격을 거두고 돌아오는 후배들을 볼 때마다 더없이 큰 보람을 느끼곤 합니다.” 이 대표는 더 체계적인 지원을 위해 예산중학교 축구부의 후원회를 결성하여 지난해 12월 공식 출범시켰다. 이렇듯 예산중학교 축구부가 단기간에 한국 축구의 명문학교로 자리매김하기까지는 이 대표의 아낌없는 후원과 기부가 뒷받침되어졌다. 하지만 그는 자신의 모든 공로를 학교, 선생님, 학부모, 후원회, 감독, 코칭스텝의 몫으로 돌리는 겸손함을 보였다. 최근에는 예산중학교의 복싱부가 제43회 전국소년체육대회에서 전체 11체급 중 1체급에서 우승으로 금메달을 거머쥐고 조정에서도 금메달을 획득해 예산중학교를 빛내기도 했다. “학생들이 좋은 선수로 성장해 국가의 명예를 드높이는 세계적인 선수로 자라날 수 있기를 바랍니다. 더불어 그들이 이 사회의 당당한 구성원으로서 성숙한 ‘인성’을 갖춘 인재가 될 수 있도록 앞으로 더 많이 후원을 이어나갈 방침입니다.”    

한편 (주)한서개발은 현재 사업영역을 확장하여 친환경 사업인 ‘히트펌트냉난방기’사업에 매진하고 있다. “이미 신재생에너지에 대한 사업이 구체적으로 진행되고 있습니다. 저희는 이 사업을 통해 보다 효과적인 에너지 절약이 실현되고 그로써 지역사회의 예산이 절감되어지기를 기대하고 있습니다.” 회사의 이익을 극대화하기 보다는 사회 발전에 더 많이 기여하는 기업인으로 남고 싶다는 이인경 대표, 부디 그의 훈훈한 사회 공헌 활동이 전 분야의 기업인들에게 좋은 본보기가 되어 더 따뜻한 감동 스토리들이 더 자주 들려오기를 바래본다.

이런 이인경 회장의 스포츠 꿈나무 사랑이 지속된다면 이달 열리는 월드컵이나 9월 열리는 인천아시안게임에서 더 좋은 결과로 나타나게 될 것이다. 언제나 자신의 작은 정성이 커나가는 아이들에게는 꿈과 희망의 길이 될 수 있다고 하는 이인경 회장. 그의 나눔 활동이 더 큰 대한민국을 만들어 나갈 것이라는 생각을 해본다.

Lee In-kyung, president of Hanseo Development Inc., showed an unusual talent in sports from childhood. In elementary and middle school days she was a soccer player while at high school, she acted as a boxer. Then, she became a business person to develop national economy but her love of sports was so great that she served for 20 years as an amateur boxing referee while running a business. Currently, she is in charge of president of WBA pan-Asian for women’s. WBA is the world’s first boxing organization founded in 1921, turning out such famous boxers as Ali, Hong Soo-hwan, Yoo Myeong-woo, etc. As women’s boxing became active, President Lee was offered the position of president and officially inaugurated in 2008. Now she manages the world’s title matches and Oriental title matches held in Asian countries never failing to participate in the World Congress. 

It was since she was transplanted by her son with a liver 8 years ago that President Lee started complete support for the field of sports. Before operation she was told that her life would last only for another 6 months but, coming back to life healthily, a thousand emotions crowded through her mind. Especially, when friends of her son who was attending her alma mater and the teacher visited her in the hospital with a gift of money, she was lost in deep thinking. “I had been such a problem student of the school that when a teacher came from that school to help me, it was really embarrassing. Thinking of the life after liver transplantation as a bonus I received, I seem to have promised myself to lead the remainder of my life performing things rewarding.” To President Lee, the most rewarding was to support promising young talents in the sports field she loved. It was because she understood better than anyone how they are struggling hard to cherish their dream in poor environment. President Lee, who had contributed a bus to Choongang elementary school the years before, contributed another new bus generously when she saw the bus of Yesan Middle’s boxing team was too old. Then, President Lee went on expanding her support to five athletic sections of Yesan Middle and High school. 

To become an enterprise contributing to regional development 

Though so far serving as hospital president and engaging in diverse fields including clothing and construction industry, President Lee always felt it most rewarding to foster young talents in sports. Especially, her sponsored Yesan Middle’s soccer team, founded in 2008, accomplished the next year a splendid feat of winning the regional Chungcheong-do weekend league. Then, the team won the championship at the regional league in 2010 and 2012, reached the quarter-finals in the nationwide weekend league for Noonnoppi Cup in 2012 while winning a victory in the semifinals at the nationwide middle school soccer games for Oryong Banner Cup held in Cheonan in 2013. “Of course, there are many excellent teams producing better result of performance, but teams ranking high on the list of the national competition are receiving the support of up to 0.5 billion won a year from large enterprises. I feel greatly rewarded whenever I see my juniors coming back from a good result in rivalry with best capable players even in their poorly off environment.” For more systematic support, President Lee officially launched a society for the support of Yesan Middle’s soccer team in December last year. Like this, President Lee’s unsparing sponsorship and contribution were thrown out until Yesan Middle’s soccer team has settled as a famed school for Korean soccer in a short time. However, she showed her humility attributing all the credit to school, teacher, parents, supporter’s association, manager and coaching staff. Lately, the boxing club of Yesan Middle School also won championship in one weight of the total eleven at the National Youth’s Athletic Meeting. 

“I wish the students would build up into a world player to increase the honor of the country. Besides, I will go on sponsoring more in the future so that they may become a talent with mature ‘character’ as a dignified member of this society.”

In the meantime, Hanseo Development Inc. is currently devoted to eco-friendly ‘heat pump heater’ system by expanding the area of business. “Business on new renewable energy is specifically in progress. Through this business, we are expecting to realize more effective energy saving, which may reduce the budget for local community.” President Lee In-kyung says she wants to remain as an entrepreneur who contributes to social development rather than maximizing the profits of a company. Her warm-hearted activity of social contribution is worth a good example for entrepreneurs in the whole fields until more touching stories of the kind are heard more frequently. 

If President Lee In-kyung’s love of young talents in sports continues, it would materialize as a better result in the World Cup held this month or Incheon Asian Games in September. She always says that her little sincerity could be a path to dream and hope for growing children. It is certain that her activity of sharing will make a bigger Korea.
