고령화 사회의 해답

노인놀이치료로 노인복지의 해답을 제시하다

2000년도부터 ‘고령화사회’에 진입하기 시작한 대한민국은 매년 빠른 속도로 노인의 수가 증가하여, 초고령화 사회를 눈앞에 두고 있다. 유엔은 총인구 중 65세 이상이 차지하는 비율이 7% 이상이면 ‘고령화사회’, 14% 이상이면 ‘고령사회’, 20% 이상이면 ‘초고령사회’로 규정하고 있다. 지난해 우리나라의 65세 이상 인구 비중은 12.2%로, 4년 뒤인 2018년에는 고령사회, 2026년에는 초고령사회에 도달할 것으로 보인다. 10여년 뒤에는 인구 5명 중 1명이 65세 이상이 되는 것이다. 

이처럼 노인의 인구 급증은 점차 노인복지 확대로 이어졌고, 다양한 대안과 복지정책이 쏟아졌다. 하지만 어떤 정책과 대안에도 노인문제는 항상 심각한 화두로 떠올랐고, 과연 어떤 대안이 초고령화 사회를 눈앞에 둔 대한민국에 적합한 가를 따지고 또 따져 봐야 할 때이다.

이 때 노인복지분야 전문가로 불리는 이창안 한국노인놀이치료협회 이사장은 노인들에게 놀이로써 즐거움과 삶을 살아가는 원동력을 불어넣어야 한다고 강조한다. 

결과적으로 노인들의 고통과 무료함을 조금이라도 덜어주고, 행동을 호전시켜 타인에게 불평의 대상이 되기보다는 노인 스스로 무언가를 할 수 있는 계기를 만들어 주자는 것이다.

21세기 노인복지의 화두는 ‘놀이치료’

노인 인구의 급격한 증가로 많은 노인들이 할 일을 잃게 됐다. 평균수명은 늘어나는 반면에 일자리는 줄고, 정년이 축소되면서 더 많은 노인들이 사회로부터 방치되는 결과를 가져왔다. 아직 일할 수 있는 나이임에도 불구하고 일자리를 찾지 못해 삶의 의미를 잃게 되는 것이 최근 가장 큰 문제로 꼽힌다. 

이창안 이사장은 그들에게 경제활동 그 이상의 무언가를 할 수 있도록 해야 노인성 치매나 노인성 질병에 대비할 수 있다고 조언한다. 

그 무언가를 구체적으로 꼽자면 단연 ‘놀이’다. 요양병원이나 기타 복지시설에 입소해 살아가는 노인들은 삶의 희망보다는 여생을 그저 누군가의 간호를 받으며 의미 없이 살아가게 된다. 이들 역시도 인간으로서 누려야 할 권리가 있고, 그 권리는 즐거움을 누리며 삶을 영위해 나갈 때 가능하다고 이창안 이사장은 강조한다. 

노인전문가인 그는 노인놀이치료를 통해 노인의 모든 정신적 결함을 치료할 수는 없지만 노인의 독립적 생활을 위해 필요한 최소한의 능력을 유지시키거나 회복시키는 필수적인 조건이자 삶의 의미를 인식하게 하는 힘을 가지고 있다고 전한다. 

또, 삶의 기본적인 형태로서 기쁨과 창조적인 힘을 가진 노인놀이치료는 건강한 노인들의 치매예방, 인지기능의 향상을 위한 효과적인 프로그램 일뿐만 아니라 치매, 중풍, 우울증 등을 노인성 질환을 가지고 있는 노인들에게 놀이 활동을 통해 재미있게 재활함으로 노인의 삶의 질 향상 및 자신의 삶에 대해 가치와 보람을 느낄 수 있도록 도울 수 있다고 밝혔다. 

신체, 정신, 감정적 불균형 상태를 긍정적인 방향으로 변화시켜 바람직한 노인의 삶으로 개선시킬 수 있는 놀이치료를 통해 고령화 사회의 해법을 찾아야 한다는 것이 그의 입장이다.

‘회상카드’ 개발로 노인치료의 획기적 프로그램 추진

오래 전부터 한국통합예술심리치료협회를 이끌어 오면서 통합예술치료의 한 부분인 노인놀이치료를 병행하면서 노인놀이의

중요성을 일찌감치 깨달은 이창안 이사장은 노인들에게 좀 더 희망적인 삶을 살게 해주고 싶다는 생각이 크다. 

다양한 놀이를 15명의 전문교수위원들과 함께 직접 개발하기도 하고, 노인놀이를 전문적으로 진행할 수 있는 전문 인력을 양성하는데 노력했다. 이렇게 양성된 전문 인력은 요양원이나 복지시설에 파견돼 다양한 놀이를 통한 노인들과의 시간을 갖게 된다.

최근에는 ‘회상카드’를 직접 개발하기도 했는데, 이 카드는 노인들이 젊은 시절 자주 접했던 물건이나 상황, 환경 등을 연상할 수 있는 그림으로 만들어졌는데, 카드를 노인들에게 보여주면서 ‘매우 소중하다, 소중하다, 보통이다, 소중하지 않다’의 네 가지 항목을 그림마다 점수처럼 결정하도록 해 ‘매우 소중하다’에 포함 된 이미지로 이야기를 풀어나가는 방식의 놀이다. 

카드의 놀이 효과는 모든 일이 귀찮고, 삶의 의미가 없는 노인들의 꽉 닫힌 입을 자연스럽게 열게 하고, 자신의 과거를 회상하면서 희망과 행복의 의미를 새롭게 느낄 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 몇몇 복지시설에서 놀이의 효과를 확인하기 위해 테스트를 마친 이 카드는 머지  않아 노인놀이의 한 축으로 성장할 가능성이 커 보인다. 

이창안 이사장은 노인놀이에 대한 개념을 정확히 이해하고 그에 맞는 놀이를 개발하는 것이 노인놀이치료의 핵심이라며, 놀이를 직접 경험하는 노인들의 입장에서 놀이 연구에 매진해 회상카드를 개발하게 됐다며, 전국적으로 이 카드가 많이 활용될 수 있도록 할 것이라고 전했다. 

앞으로 자신이 활동하고 있는 부산, 경남에서만 이런 노인놀이치료 프로그램이 활용되는 것을 넘어 전국적으로 활성화 돼 대한민국 모든 노인들이 육체적, 심리적, 치료적 접근방식에 입각한 실질적인 혜택을 볼 수 있도록 하겠다고 말했다. 

또, 노인놀이 치료를 더욱 발전시켜 전문인력 양성 및 노인놀이 치료가 사회에 뿌리를 내려 노인이 행복한 나라를 만드는 것이 목표라고 전했다.

  Beginning to enter 'aging society' in 2000, ROK is predicted to become a super-aged society soon, each year, the number of seniors rapidly increased. United Nations define  7% of as aging society 65 years of total population, more than 14% aged society, more than 20% 'super-aged society South Korea is predicted to become a aged society, as senior citizens over 65 accounted for 12.2 percent of the total population four years later, aged society in 2018, super-aged society in 2026. 10 years later One in five people will be 65 years old. Thus, the rapid increase of the elderly population led to Elderly welfare expansion poured a variety of alternative and welfare policies. But in spite of even some policy alternatives  the problem is always a serious topic. What kind of alternatives are placed in front of the aged society in the Republic of Korea facing super-aged society should weigh again, when  Director Lee Chang-an called the elderly expert of Korea Senior Play Therapy Association puts emphasis on giving the driving force with the fun and enjoyment. Relieving a little pain boredom by improving the behavior of rather than being the subject of complaint and we will make an opportunity to do something for seniors 

The topic of welfare for senior citizens is the Play Therapy

  The rapid increase in the elderly population lot of elderly people lost jobs. On the other hand, life expectancy is increasing, losing jobs, retirement age is reduced as more elderly people has resulted in the neglect from society. In spite of the age to work ans they are unable to find jobs that will be lost the meaning of life is regarded as the biggest problem recently. Chairman of Lee Changan advise to prepare for that give them something more economic activity such as Alzheimer age-related disease. Specifically, he noticed the complete play. The elderly people living care hospitals and other welfare facilities live without the means to receive care rather than hope of life. President  Lee Chang-an emphasized that They should have he right to enjoy as human beings when you enjoy and lead an independent life. He is an expert in the elderly through the elderly play therapy they can cure all elderly mental defect, He has the power to to the minimum needed for independent living of the elderly's ability to maintain for means essential for the life. He said, the elderly play therapy as a basic form of life with joy and creative force the elderly can get the effect as follows: The healthy elderly's prevention of dementia for the improvement of cognitive functions of effective programs and dementia, stroke, depression, and age-related diseases in the elderly, who through play activities improve the quality of life for the elderly and for their own lives, so he can help. Changing in a positive direction for physical, mental, and emotional imbalances trough play therapy desirable to improve the lives of the elderly, we should find solution of aging society, which is his position.

development of 'Recalls Cards' significantly promote the treatment of the elderly program

  President Lee Chang-an who realized early on the importance of the senior play   while in parallel of the play therapy for the elderly which is the part of the integration of art therapy, leading Korea Association for psychotherapy integration art, is greatly thinking that he wants to help the elderly. He directly created various plays with professor with 15 members, was trying to train a professional workforce to be able to proceed to play professionally in the elderly. This trained professional personnel are dispatched to a nursing home or welfare facilities and have the time with the elderly through a variety of plays. In recent years, 'recalls card' also had a direct development, which cards are made of the pictures from which you can recall things or circumstances in his youth, the environment etc. Showing these cards to the elderly which is composed of 'very precious, precious, usually, is not important' scores for each of the four items. and tell the human stories 'very precious' contained in the image. The effect of the card game make the elderly whose life is tedious and naturally open tightly closed mouth of the elderly, who can feel sense of hope and happiness newly. This card has been tested to determine the effect of the play in some welfare facilities and the elderly play seems more likely to grow the axis of the elderly play. Director lee Chang-an  says that the core of the elderly play therapy, better understanding the concept of the elderly and play, and it was developed position to play a direct experience of the elderly, and he will do his best to take advantage of this card very much. Beyond taking advantage of it in Busan, Gyeongsangnam, where he is in active, he would be able to see the elderly gain the real benefits based on the elderly physical, psychological, therapeutic approaches of ROK, activated nationally. He said, his objective is to create a happy country where the elderly are happy with the elderly play therapy rooted in our society.
