With no signs of economic recovery and the new trend of early retirement, vocational and workfare education emerges as a new issue.  

More and more people want to have practical skills, instead of diplomas, in order to start a new life working at a promising new job. The reason is all the same for those who work by day and study by night. In the age of uncertainty, the only way to survival and victory is by professional skills.


The cradle for fostering beauty artisans

Speaking of vocational training, we should mention vocational schools in Korea, which have been founded since 1970s, and SungSim Beauty Training School, located in Busanjin Gu Busan Gwangyeoksi, represents the beauty school in Korea.  

SungSim has various curricular, such as hair dressing, skin care, nail art, makeup, scalp and hair care, false eyelashes, etc. These courses are specialized or segmented into general training, vocational training for the unemployed, employee training, foreigner training, etc. They formed efficient industry-academic partnerships with colleges in Busan too. In recognition of these efforts, many public institutions approved SungSim as the best educational agency.

Students with this high-quality education are able to obtain qualifications certified by the Government, and find jobs easily. In the process, the school provides them with customized services, such as information on beauty culture markets and job offers, job placement, guidance counseling, etc.


One And Only Career of 30 Years, Leaving Nothing to Be Desired 

Principal Shin set three school mottos: creative artist, professional artist, beautiful artist. What he means by them is to raise artisans with good personality, which served greatly for SungShim to steadily grow up since its foundation in 1985.

¡°Our future lies in the hands of professionals, and good personality is no less required than skills to become professionals.¡±

In keeping with this principle, they conduct in-depth counseling to find out applicants¡¯ will to work before choosing them. Students without a firm will to wok are highly likely to drop out.

Considering the special need of beauty culture industry for professional womanpower, they do their utmost to offer women chances to work, and utilize to the maximum the potential of womanpower. 

For the past 5 years, SungSim has shown more than 90% of employment rate, and was selected by Korea Sinzisikin Association as ¡°Person with Advanced Ideas.¡±   


Donating talents

A master of cosmethology at Hannam University¡¯s graduate school, artisan and principal Mr. Shin has devoted his whole life to beauty culture only. But one exception is that he regularly diverted his attention to service to his community and writing. 

Following his management philosophy ¡°One good turn follows another,¡± he has visited social facilities for the underprivileged and donated his talents there every Tuesday since the foundation of SungSim. He is also a poet who has written 3 collections of poems, along with many practical books.

The domestic beauty culture market is estimated to be worth about 32 trillion won, meaning it is a high-value-added market capable of continued growth. But we are always lacking high quality human resources.

In the wake of ¡°Hallyu, the popularity of Korean pop culture abroad, foreigners become more and more interested in our techniques of beauty culture, after those of cosmetic surgery, and we expect more from the role of principal Shin.    

¡°Staying aloof from the existing framework, I will make this school fulfill the demand for a high-class workforce and concentrate on practical skills.¡± 

We hope that his determination to nurture beauty artisans with good personality will spread over to the other educational circles.
