세계 최초 종합취미박물관 하비人월드

독자적인 분야로 인식되어 온 다양한 취미들을 한 곳에 통합 전시

누구에게나 하나씩은 있을 법한 취미활동. 음악, 영화, 스포츠 등 많이 알려진 활동에서부터 코스프레, RC모형 등 매니아 성격이 강한 취미까지 취미활동의 종류는 틀조차 만들 수 없을 만큼 광범위하다. 하지만 우리 사회는 남과 다른 취미활동을 가진 이에게는 긍정의 자세를 취하지 못한다. 그래서인지 취미활동의 결과물들이 굉장히 높은 수준에 도달해있어도 음지에 묻혀 있는 경우가 허다하다. 이러한 사회적 시선에 주눅이 들어 1년에 한 번 정도 동호인들끼리 작품을 공유하는 정도에 그쳐 제대로 된 취미활동이 이뤄지기란 어렵다. 하지만 이런 취미활동도 남들의 시선 따위 신경 쓰지 않고 마음껏 즐길 수 있는 공간이 탄생했다. 7월 22일 과천 서울대공원 옛 IT월드에 세대를 초월해 인기를 얻고 있는 취미를 한 자리에 모은 세계 최초 종합취미박물관 하비인월드가 문을 열었다. 영화, 스포츠, 회화, 조각 등에 이르기까지 다양한 취미활동의 결과물들을 보고 느낄 수 있는 공간이다. 

색다른 문화체험과 소통의 장

서울대공원 옛 IT월드의 지하 1층에서 지상 3층 규모로 2014년까지 상설 운영되는 하비인월드는 국내 최초로 시도되는 상설 취미 전시관이다. 세상에 존재하는 모든 취미활동들이 한 곳에 모인 그야말로 취미의 집대성이라고 할 수 있다. 하비인월드를 기획한 비즈런의 엄윤성 대표는 “가족과 친구들이 함께 즐기고 참여할 수 있는 공간을 만들고 나아가 풍요로운 삶을 대표하는 새로운 문화코드를 만들기 위한 것”이라고 기획의도를 밝혔다. 하비인월드에서는 프라모델과 건담 등 액션 피규어와 캐릭터 인형, 밀리터리 모형, RC모형, 코스프레, 애니메이션, 미니어처, 관절 인형, 닥종이 인형, 퀼트 등 다양한 취미들을 즐길 수 있다. 

“취미를 즐기고 싶고 함께 공유하고 싶은 사람이라면 누구든 하비인월드를 찾아가라.” RC모형을 즐기는 사람이라면 하비월드에 마련된 드리프트를 이용하면 된다. 프라모델을 보고 키트를 만들어 볼 수도 있고, RC모형을 보고 시연을 할 수도 있다. 또 작품의 상설 전시 외에도 특별 전시공간을 마련해 전시나 발표를 희망하는 동호회, 단체들에게 다양한 전시 기회도 제공한다. 다양한 콘텐츠로 항상 새로운 것을 보여주는 하비인월드는 박물관 혹은 전시관이라는 틀에 얽매이지 않고 진짜 취미생활을 할 수 있도록 해주는 복합적인 공간이다. 하비인월드는 취미활동을 할 수 있는 공간이 따로 존재한다는 것으로서 새로운 취미문화의 탄생을 예고했으며 취미활동에 대한 낮은 인식이 개선되고 관련 산업과의 연계성도 급속히 늘어날 것으로 전망된다.

취미라는 동질성 아래 남녀노소가 즐길 수 있는 문화공간

그간 개인과 동호회 중심으로 운영되던 취미활동들은 최근 인터넷, 소셜문화 발전에 힘입어 그 규모와 종류가 다양해졌지만 전시에 대한 개념이 자리 잡지 못해 그것을 보여줄 방도를 찾지 못했다. 하비월드는 이 같은 취미활동을 다른 누군가에게 보여줄 수 있는 세계 유일한 전시공간이다. 엄 대표는 “하비인월드는 동호인들에게는 소통의 장, 일반인들에게는 색다른 문화를 즐길 수 있는 체험의 장이다. 단순히 보는 것만이 아닌 몸으로 체험하고 배울 수 있는 공간을 만들겠다”고 설명했다. 하비인월드는 다양한 전시물들과 체험을 바탕으로 남녀노소 나이에 상관없이 모든 사람들에게 만족감을 주는 것이 목표이다. 또한 많은 취미동호회원들이 바라는 작품을 전시하고 소통할 수 있는 공간을 만들어 음지에 묻혀있던 취미를 양지로 꺼내 육성하는 장을 만들 것이라고 밝혔다.

Hobbies of all kinds exist from playing music, watching movies, and playing sports that anyone could possibly enjoy to hobbies with manias such as cosplay (costume play) and RC models. But our society does not look at people with unique hobbies that favorably. Maybe because of it, although the produced work of hobbies have reached a very sophisticated level, they are often buried in darkness.  Because of such social norms, people with the same hobbies dare to only meet maybe once a year to share their works and it is difficult to fully enjoy one's hobby. But a space has been created for people to full enjoy hobbies without having to be conscious of others' negative views. In the old IT World of Seoul Zoo, the world's first comprehensive hobby museum showing all kinds of hobbies highly popular to all ages opened on July 22. Here, one can enjoy the outcome of various hobbies from movies, sports to paintings and sculptures.

Space to experience and communicate a unique culture

HobbyIn World, a permanent exhibition to be open until 2014 from the first basement floor to the third floor of the old IT World of Seoul Zoo, is Korea's first permanent exhibition of hobbies. All kinds of hobbies of the world are gathered in one place. Representative Yun-seong Eum of Bizlearn who planned HobbyIn World said, “I wanted to create a space where families and friends can enjoy and participate together and further create a new culture code representing our abundant life.” In HobbyIn World, one can enjoy various hobbies such as action figures including plamodels and gundam robots, character dolls, military models, RC models, cosplay, animation, miniature, ball jointed dolls, dakjongi dolls, and quilts.  "Anyone who wants to enjoy and share hobbies, come to HobbyIn World." If one enjoys making RC models, he or she may use the drift prepared in HobbyIn World. One can also make kits by looking at plamodels or demonstrate RC models. In addition to the permanent exhibition, a special exhibition space has been prepared to provide the opportunity for any club or group wishing to present their works to exhibit. HobbyIn World, which always shows something new with various contents, is a comprehensive space not limited to the framework of a museum or exhibition where one can really enjoy hobbies. HobbyIn World has a separate space to enjoy and experience hobbies ushering the birth of a new hobby culture. Low awareness of hobbies is expected to improve and linking of hobbies to related industries is expected to rapidly increase. 

A cultural space where people of all ages and gender may enjoy shared hobbies

Hobbies, which were hitherto enjoyed individually or based on clubs, have become diverse and of various scale thanks to the development of the Internet and social networking culture. But the concept of an exhibition had not yet settled and there was no way of showing the hobbies. HobbyIn World is the only exhibition space in the world where one can show a hobby to others. Eom said, “HobbyIn World is a space to communicate for club members and to enjoy a different culture for ordinary citizens." He continued, "I want to create a space where one does not only watch but physically experience the hobbies." HobbyIn World's goal is to satisfy people of all ages and gender based on various exhibited goods and opportunities to experience hobbies. In addition, Eom said he would create a space for the many hobby club members to exhibit their works and communicate so that hobbies hidden in darkness would come to light and develop.
