“다양성과 생동감이 넘치는 선사시대 속으로” 

국립중앙박물관, 선사고대관 구석기실 ㆍ 신석기실 재개관 

국립중앙박물관(관장 김영나)은 지난 13일(화), 선사고대관 구석기실ㆍ신석기실을 새롭게 단장하여 문을 열었다. 이번 선사실 개편은 통사적 종합역사박물관으로의 연차별 개편의 일환으로 지난 10년간 축적된 발굴 자료를 바탕으로 다양성과 생동감이 넘치는 선사시대 모습을 보여주고자 이루어졌다. 총 1,000여점의 유물이 구석기실과 신석기실에 전시되며 이 중 새롭게 전시되는 유물만 600여점에 달한다.  선사고대관 첫 머리에 위치한 도입부는 우리나라의 전체 역사와 각 관의 시간적인 범위를 알려주는 프롤로그적인 성격이 강화되었다. 디지털 매체에 익숙한 세대를 위하여 기존의 패널방식뿐만 아니라 영상 매체를 적극 활용하였다. 

구석기실은 약 4만 년을 전후로 이루어지는 ‘이른 시기의 대형 석기’과 ‘늦은 시기 소형 석기’로 전시공간이 구분된다. 각 시기를 대표하는 유물들을 강조하기 위해 한반도 전역에서 출토된 주먹도끼ㆍ주먹찌르개 50여점과 대구 월성 유적에서 출토된 400여점에 가까운 작은돌날을 일괄 전시하였다.  

또한 석기 제작뿐만 아니라 이동생활, 예술, 신석기시대로의 전환 등 구석기시대를 다양한 측면에서 살펴볼 수 있도록 일본 고유의 석기로 추정되는 등손잡이칼(임실 하가 유적), 안료로 추정되는 철석영  鐵石英(장흥 신북 유적)과 흑연(남양주 호평 유적), 신석기시대의 전유물로만 여겨졌던 각종 간석기와 화살촉들을 새롭게 전시하였다.     

신석기실은 ‘수렵ㆍ어로ㆍ채집과 농사’, ‘한반도 각 지역의 토기’, ‘정신세계와 예술’로 공간이 크게 구분된다. 이번 개편된 전시에서는 이른 시기부터 바다 자원을 적극적으로 활용했던 신석기시대 어로 문화를 집중 조명하고 있는 것이 큰 특징이다. 이를 위해 높이 3m에 달하는 부산 동삼동 유적 조개무지 토층, 고래잡이의 증거로 여겨지고 있는 작살 꽂힌 고래 뼈, 창녕 비봉리에서 출토된 한반도에서 가장 오래된 배와 노 등을 전시하였다. 

또한 한반도 각 지역에서 출토된 신석기시대 토기 70여점을 함께 전시하여 다양한 형태와 문양을 한 눈에 감상할 수 있도록 하였다. 그 밖에도 신석기시대 최대 무덤인 부산 가덕도 유적의 41호 인골, 신석기인의 웃는 얼굴이 표현된 울진 죽변 유적의 토기 등 최신 발굴 유물 등이 전시된다.      

새로 단장한 구석기실ㆍ신석기실에서는 한반도에 살았던 인류가 자연환경의 변화에 따라 먹을거리를 쫓던 존재에서 어떻게 도구를 발달시키고 어떻게 환경을 개척해나갔는지 보다 생생히 느낄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
