Nature's Noble Beauty on a Canvas

Western artist Seung-chul Park

Nature's beauty emanating in Seung-cheol Park's artworks is filled with lyrical emotions of the artist. His life of ceaselessly searching and asking himself for 10 years has indisputably been the driving force making him join the ranks of mature artists. At the boundary of excess and scantiness, Park has poured pure artworks and searched for the true nature of beauty to find his own firm tenet and express it in his works.

Energy embracing the audience

To realize his dream as a child, he left his job he had long worked in and it has already been 10 years since he started a new life. The artworks he has shown during these years are recognized as being outstanding even if he did not major in art and are filled with the firm tenet and efforts made by the artist. His mentor is the late master Jae-u Yun, a famous Korean color painter. Park's longing for master Yun who passed away within four years since Park started learning from him has been the driving force for his painting activities and for six years he studied alone. He reminisces on those years. In the 10th year since he started learning from Yun, Park planned a personal exhibition in order to wrap up his works so far and last September, he realized his dream. He further decided to make 2011 the year from which to start a full life as an artist and openly disclosed his artworks which were acclaimed by the audience.

Director Yeong-bae Han of the gallery where Park held his personal exhibition praised Park's artworks and said, ¡°I was moved by Park's painting methods which are starkly different from existing artists. The artworks of new form grabbed the attention of the audience and have the special power of satisfying the five senses." Park soon afterwards planned an invited exhibition and had the fortune of prolonging his exhibition. Most evaluate his artworks as being fresh and not tainted by worldly values with emotions well expressed. Park says he is greatly moved when people are touched by his artworks and show interest in them and support him.

There are limitations to expressing into words the emotions and beauty we feel when we see nature and objects. But Park tries to express in his artworks nature as he sees it and convey his emotions as they are to feel and communicate together with others the beauty hidden in nature and objects. He expresses in his canvas the fresh emotions he feels and readily conveys them to others, which is the real joy of conveying beauty as an artist, Park says. He is already a real "artist" who paints from the heart.

"Butterfly" that went to Japan

Of Park's artworks "Butterfly," "Mountain Rock," and "Casablanca" that a Japanese collector possesses, an entire wall has been painted red for "Butterfly" and "Mountain Rock" is displayed on the wall behind the president's desk. The collector says he feels great satisfaction whenever those visiting his office stop before the artwork awed by its grandiosity. Park's three artwork pieces of "Casablanca" are also hung in the collector's house for him to view Park's artworks both at home and work. Park holds the remaining one piece of "Casablanca" and "Butterfly." By sharing artworks across the sea separating Korea and Japan, the artist is meeting with his audience.

All nature expressed as beauty

In Matisse's artworks which may be criticized as being too simple, Park found the beauty of space. In a desire to reach that sense of space, Park did not stop learning and has already reached 57 this year. He says smiling that he found his own "stupid philosophy" and ceaselessly continues to march forward to open new horizons of artworks without leaving his brush even for a day. The nature he talks about is goodness itself. He says nature embodies the truth and claims his paintings show high studies that cannot be solved mathmatically or proven scientifically. He says that truth and goodness come from beauty. He says his unique method is to daringly and speedily express that beauty and he pursues three-dimensional composition than two dimensional and places enough weight to effectively show his art world. Both emotions and objects melt well into the canvas making his artworks protrude and Park uses primary colors he learned from Yun and mixes colors with colors to create colors he himself does not know of to express another world and instill life into his artworks.

Park has established "Koap Gallery" last spring and plans to hold exhibitions of good artists he discovers so that they may produce good artworks in a better environment - Park does not limit his activities to painting but wants to share art with others. Park is fully capable of instilling new energy to the art world with his own distinctive canvas composition and painting methods that no other can dare approach. He is now working hard to participate in the "Verge Art Brooklyn 2012" to be held in New York in March next year. We will close examine his progress to be made development after development and patiently wait for his artworks filled with truth.
