끊임없이 찾아 해매다

그의 결단력은 지금의 소나무 그림의 대가 ‘노학봉’을 만들어 냈다. 집착을 버리면 새로운 것을 창조해낼 수 있다는 생각으로 80년도에 이미 그동안의 작품들을 모두 폐기시킨 그는 새로움을 위해 1986년부터 ‘마티에르 기법’을 도입했다. 노학봉 문양이라는 그만의 독창적인 베이스 작업은 나이프를 이용해 강한 느낌으로 7~10번을 덧칠, 마치 추상화와 같은 모습을 띄게 된다. 그리고 베이스 작업을 끝낸 캔버스 위에 형형색색의 하늘의 색과 소나무의 고고한 자태를 그려 넣는다. 정물을 그대로 잘 옮기는 것은 기술에 불과하다며 마음가는대로 붓 가는대로 보는 이들의 마음에 와 닿는 그림을 그리고자 하는 그는 수년의 시간과 노력을 들여 베이스 작업을 마무리 한다. 이러한 기본 바탕은 에너지의 파장으로 인간이 추구하는 아름다움과 행복을 전달하기 위한 색의 조화라고 그는 역설했다. 노학봉 작가는 추상화와 정물화를 접목시켜 일반적이지 않은 그림을 그린다. 그렇기에 보는 이들에게 강렬한 인상을 남길 수밖에 없는 것이다. 한국인의 혼과 얼이 담긴 변하지 않는 작품을 그리기 위해 17년 동안 재료학을 연구하며 새로움을 시도했던 그는 반복적인 어려움을 이겨내고 기법이나 표현양식에서 한국적인 냄새가 묻어나오는 노송을 선택했다. 그가 추구하는 한국적인 아름다움에 작가 자신의 혼을 담아 강한 내면을 전달, 그렇게 ‘노학봉만의 소나무’가 탄생됐다. 

Dynamic life stretching out as pine tree branches

Noh's artworks show his dynamic life of wandering and failing in his youth and of rising above them. Ever since he began to take interest in pine trees in 1983, he has drawn "pine trees" with a strictly Korean and upright spirit making those viewing his paintings to exclaim in awe. He has travelled around Korea for 20 years to check with his own eyes the beauty of pine trees and express them in his paintings. He has tried to express Korean "pine trees" to show the beauty of Korea to foreigners. The spirit of the year round green and graceful Guksong "pine tree" is similar to Koreans. And it is no different to Noh. The strong will to overcome all difficulties and sufferings and a pure heart of pure greenery to create artworks in this murky world is indeed how Noh is. His unique protruding artworks maintain their form, brightness and saturation however long time passes. The clarity of colors he pursues protrude indeed more. It takes about two to three years to complete an artwork and Noh says he spends that time to "instill emotions" into the drawings. 

그의 작품 속 소나무는 국내 뿐 아니라 17개국의 감성과 나름의 기운을 품고 있다. 한국적인 화가이면서 동시에 외국에 가장 아름다운 화가로 남고 싶은 그는 정신 속에 내재되어 있는 조형적인 영감을 작품을 통해 보여줌으로써 한국인의 정신적인 버팀목으로 우리와 함께 해온 노송의 작품 시리즈를 세계 시장에 보여줄 계획이다. 지난 해, 노학봉 작가는 시인으로 등단했다. 노학봉 고유의 감성으로 아픔과 그리움을 ‘시’로 토해낸 것. 이후에는 화가로서의 삶을 회고하며, ‘화가의 일기’라는 제목으로 에세이를 내보고 싶은 욕심도 있다. 하지만 그는 우선 화가로 주어진 목적을 달성하고자 더욱더 맑은 정신으로 주어진 환경 속에 최선을 다하려고 한다. 작가 스스로가 원하고 만족하는 한 점이 곧 관객에게 진심으로 다가가 아름다운 예술로서의 가치를 인정받게 될 것이라는 그. 노학봉 작가의 기백은 아름드리 소나무의 향연을 펼치며 더 나아가 대한민국의 아름다움을 세계에 뻗치게 될 것이라고 확신할 수 있었다. 

To be reborn as a true artist

The pine trees in Noh's artworks embrace not only the Korean but also the spirit and emotions of 17 countries. While being a truly Korean artist, he also wants to remain as an artist who draws the most beautiful globally. He expresses the modeling inspiration he gets through his artworks and plans to show to the global market a series of artworks based on the mental support of Koreans. In addition, Noh started his literary life as a poet last year. He pours his pains and longings unique to him into his "poems." In the future, he also wants to write essays titled "an artist's diary" looking back on his life as an artist. But for now, he wants to do his best as an artist to create artworks with a purer mind in the given environment. He says that artworks the artist himself wants and is satisfied with are those that really touch the hearts of viewers and whose value as beautiful art are recognized. Noh's spirit will surely spread as beautiful pine trees to convey the beauty of Korea to the world.
