대한민국은 급속도로 고령화 사회에 접어들었다. 결과적으로 충분하지 않은 준비로 노인요양시설 및 제도에 문제점이 하나둘 눈에 띄기 시작했다. 요양급여만 챙기기 위한 부실한 시설과 노인장기요양 종사자에 대한 처우 개선 문제도 연일 골칫거리로 떠오르고 있다. 

이에 따라 요양시설의 서비스 질은 현저히 추락하며, 신중히 시설을 찾아 부모를 모신 자식들의 입장에선 한숨만 나올 뿐이다. 결국 유능한 인재와 차별화 된 시설, 그리고 자신의 부모처럼 모실 수 있는 구성원이 있는 노인요양시설이 시급한 시점이다.

현재 특실, 부부실, 2~4인실의 다양한 형태의 요양실과 휴게실, 영화감상실, 옥외폭포, 옥외데크, 연못 등 노인들을 위한 여가활동시설과 산책공간을 확보하고 있으며, 주빌리 농장을 함께 운영해 직접 재배한 유기농 야채를 제공하는 등 어르신들의 건강과 편안하고, 즐거운 생활을 위해 힘쓰고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 같은 건물 내에 위치한 협력의원인 주빌리의원을 통해 의사방문, 의료처치 등 어르신들의 신속한 응급 상황대처와 인근 대학병원과의 연계 의료서비스, 영적치료를 돕기 위한 주빌리 교회(김선복 목사), 전문영양사가 관리하는 맞춤식단 제공 등 일반 요양원에서는 쉽게 찾아볼 수 없는 세심한 부분까지 꼼꼼히 관리해 입소자는 물론 가족 모두에게 안정감과 신뢰를 주는 너싱홈으로 자리 잡았다. 또한 입소자의 건강상태에 맞는 맞춤 오락프로그램과 재활치료시스템을 통해 어르신들의 정서 안정에도 힘쓰고 있다. 

이는 10여 년 전부터 너싱홈에 대한 꿈을 꾸며 준비해 온 김선숙 원장이 간호사 출신으로 창업을 했기 때문에 가능했던 일로 병원과 가정의 중간형태인 노인 전문요양시설을 완성했다. 

주빌리너싱홈을 오픈하기 전 1966년부터 그는 가정 전문 간호사로 환자가 있는 집으로 직접 찾아가서 병원에서와 똑같은 치료적 간호(주사, 욕창치료, 콧줄, 소변줄 바꿔주기, 검사물 채취 등)를 12년 동안 1,000여 가구 이상 방문해 시행하면서 가족과 환자가 겪고 있는 고통을 실감했다. 전문성이 떨어지는 가족에게 간병 받으면서 겪게 되는 불편함이 있어도 요구하지 못하고, 가족에게 짐이 되는데서 오는 미안함으로 인한 마음의 고통으로 힘들어하는 환자들은 물론, 개인의 사생활을 포기하고 간병해야 하는 보호자들(특히 며느리)도 말 못하고 혼자 겪어야 하는 고통을 보면서, 그리고 영적인 갈증이 있음에도 집이라는 제한된 공간에서 해결하기엔 무리가 있어서 보호자에게 요구하지 못하는 것을 보면서 이 모든 것들을 해결할 수 있는 공간이 필요해서 지금의 주빌리너싱홈을 시작하게 됐다고 한다.

현재 입소정원 73명의 주빌리너싱홈은 수도권과 가까운 탓에 대전 뿐 아니라 수도권 및 주변지역의 입소문의가 쇄도하고 있으며, 전문적인 요양보호사 및 의료진이 여생을 편히 보낼 수 있는 최고의 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 

불효라는 생각은 금물,

아직 고령화 사회에 대한 충분한 준비가 부족한 우리나라에서는 노인요양시설에 부모를 모시는 것을 불효라 여긴다. 하지만 바쁜 현대인들이 부모를 자신의 집에 모시고, 오전부터 저녁까지 집을 비워 부모는 어쩔 수 없이 쓸쓸한 시간을 보내야 한다면 어떤 것이 더 불효에 가까운지를 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 

비슷한 연령의 어르신들과 아침부터 저녁까지 취미생활을 즐기고, 꾸준한 자기개발을 하며, 건강관리에도 소홀함이 없는 시간을 보낼 수 있다면 오히려 노인요양시설에 부모님이 입소할 수 있도록 돕는 것이 바로 효도일 것이다.

Korean society is rapidly ageing. As a result, problems are appearing in nursing systems and facilities for the elderly from a lack of preparation. Poor facilities eager to only make profit and the need to improve the working conditions of nurses in nursery homes are becoming major headaches. As such, the quality of services provided by nursery homes is drastically dropping, disappointing those having their parents stay in the homes. As a result, the creation of nursery homes composed of members who take care of the elderly as if they were their own parents and facilities with differentiated services and outstanding staff is pressing. That is why Jubilee Nursing Home, selected for the Grand Prize of E-Biz in the first half of 2011 evaluated by the consumers themselves, is drawing much attention.  

The best nursing home for the elderly in Daejeon with numerous calls from Seoul and its surrounding areas

Jubilee Nursing Home, a nursing home located close to Daejeon, is both close to the city and greenery for an eco-friendly environment as well as a pleasant and warm internal environment and facilities. About 50 expert staff work 24 hours 365 days a year to closely take care of the elderly.  

The home currently provides luxury rooms, couple rooms and two to four people rooms, a resting room, a movie watching room, an outdoor waterfall and deck, and a pond among others for the elderly to enjoy and take walks around. The Jubilee farm is also managed together to provide own farmed organic vegetables for the health, comfort and enjoyable life of the elderly. Because it provides detailed services not found in other nursery homes such as medical services linked with a university hospital located in the vicinity, the Jubilee Church (Pastor Seon-bok Kim) for spiritual treatment, and custom-tailored meals prepared by expert nutritionists, it has settled as a nursing home providing stability and reliability to both the elderly using the home and their family. In addition, custom-tailored leisure programs and rehabilitation therapy systems are provided for the elderly's emotional stability. 

Because it was established about 10 years ago by Director Seon-suk Kim, a former nurse who prepared the home dreaming of the best nursing home, it was possible to complete a nursing home with both a hospital and home functions. Before Jubilee Nursing Home opened, she has personally visited over 1,000 families with patients as an expert nurse since 1966 to provide the same treatments (shots, pressure sore treatment, L-tube, urination tube changes and collection of specimens) as in a hospital for 12 years through which she personally got to experience the pain suffered by the patients and their families. Through these years, not only did she get to experience patients suffering both physically and emotionally from not being able to ask for better services while being taken care of by nurses lacking expertise and feeling sorry for being a burden to the family, but also guardians (in particular, daughters-in-law) who had to give up their personal lives to take care of the sick elderly. She also saw how the patients longed for spiritual care but could neither get it in the limited space of a home nor ask for it to their guardian. As such, she realized a space to solve these problems was necessary and started the Jubilee Nursing Home business, according to Kim. 

The home currently has 73 patients residing and gets numerous phone calls from word-of-mouth, not only from Daejeon but also the Seoul metropolitan area for its proximity. Its expert care takers and medical staff provide the best services for the elderly to enjoy the rest of their lives. 

No need to think of being a bad child as a happy life for the elderly is guaranteed in a proper nursing home proven through word-of-mouth

Preparing for an ageing society is still lacking in Korea and many consider leaving their elderly parents in nursing homes as being a bad child. But if busy contemporary people have to leave their parents in their home alone to spend lonely hours, then, we need to rethink what a bad child really is. If the elderly can enjoy from morning to evening hobbies with other elderly, continuously self-develop and take care of their health, then sending parents to nursing homes would be a better way to show respect for one's parents. Here, an important condition follows. It is finding a proper facility. The answer is finding a place equipped with both the expertise and care to change the thinking that it is bad to send parents to a nursing home and where the elderly are respected and taken care of as if they were their own parents.

As such, Kim of Jubilee Nursing Home thinks a nursing home culture should settle where the elderly can alleviate the emotional burden of their care takers and enjoy the rest of their lives by getting expert nursing in a comfortable environment. Kim is therefore working hard to change the social thinking on nursing homes. For this, the Jubilee Nursing Home is working hard to lead the strict management of facilities, environment and services for better care of each elderly with respect and love as well as their comfortable happy life for the rest of their lives.  

A life enjoying treatment like a festival

“We will do our best to help the elderly find meaning and joy of life and recover their body and heart from pain and injuries so they may live happily in a festive environment.” Jubilee derives its name from the happy years in the Bible. It means joy, recovery, and festival and Kim has kept the home full of care and love so far to realize the meaning of its name. Kim says her goal is to have the elderly suffering from and tired of physical discomfort to return to the state of their best and happy years and recover their past energy to enjoy a happy life for the rest of their lives without feeling lonely. To realize the beautiful meaning of Jubilee, Kim and its about 50 staff are working hard to take good care of the elderly with one mind and heart for the advancement of nursing homes.
