As of 2022, 61.2% of the population is regularly engaged in physical activity. Each of them has one or two sports as a hobby, and they share good exercise methods on YouTube, exercise at the same gym or sports facility, and are actively interacting beyond time and space. However, although there is a lot of information about various exercises, there is still no other way than to leave it to the experts to determine which exercises are right for you and which ones you should avoid. As there are cases where the exercise method does not suit oneself but continues to ruin the body, there is a need for a means to find information on exercise that is right for oneself.

Combining sports and immersive content technology

Expers shifts sports paradigm

Expers is a company that develops and provides various apps and platform services to change the paradigm of the way sports are enjoyed by combining sports activities and immersive content technology. As the demand for health and wellness has increased over the years, the number of people exercising has also increased. Along with that, with the development of ICT technology, app services that assist various activities have emerged, but Expers CEO Jeongheon Kim, who engaged in sports agency business including football for 6 years overseas, explains that there have been no satisfactory results in sports-related fields. “There were several services that were desperately needed in the field. For example, while I was managing the football players, the players themselves could not figure out what parts the players were lacking in, what exercises they had to do, and what level of physical fitness they had to match.” said Kim. It was difficult even for athletes to know the sports they needed on their own. As such, ordinary people cannot perform exercises that suit their body unless they are closely managed by experts through personal training. To solve this problem, CEO Kim established Expers to transform the way sports are approached by combining artificial intelligence technology with real sports activities. The company has artificial intelligence image processing technology optimized for smartphones and big data analysis capabilities, and is focusing on the sports tech field by utilizing CEO Kim’s experience and know-how. The result is ‘Vapor’, a mobile app service that can measure exercise capacity and prescribe exercise with a smartphone.

Measuring my exercise ability with a smartphone and even prescribing exercise

Vapor, my own physical trainer

VAPOR is a mobile app that allows you to know your exercise ability and the exercise you need with just a smartphone. Cardiorespiratory endurance, agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, and muscular endurance are measured using a smartphone camera. The user simply launches the app, selects a measurement item from the exercise measurement tab, and prepares for measurement by following the guide video that follows. After that, if you enjoy the test presented like a game, AI measures your athletic ability in real time through augmented reality (AR) athletic ability measurement. When all measurements are completed, you can immediately check your athletic ability with your own eyes and get an analysis data report. “In order to determine an accurate exercise program, the amount of exercise a person receives must be measured, and appropriate intensity and exercise functional factors must also be considered. We easily analyze such areas through smartphones and provide results in real time.” says Kim. The data measured in this way is used together with body information, and AI analyzes it to prescribe exercises suitable for the purpose of exercise desired. Vapor provides about 300 exercise contents and plans that ordinary people can do according to the results of exercise prescription, and after 14 days of exercise prescription, you can re-measure at any time and track the degree of improvement in exercise ability.

Increase exercise effect by sharing exercise video

It helps manage sports center membership

Exercise is more effective and less strenuous when done with others. A research team at Oxford University in the UK measured the degree of pain felt when exercising alone or with a group of people. As a result, those who exercised together were twice as late as those who exercised alone. There also is a research result that the exercise that interacts with others affects a person’s lifespan. Expers has added a function to share exercise capacity measurement videos in Vapor so that people can share exercises with each other, and to exchange among people who exercise through competition for rankings based on their highest record or improvement. Competition helps to feel a sense of accomplishment for exercise and also creates motivation for exercise. In Vapor, points can be obtained according to the results of these competitions, which are visualized to further increase the effect. Vapor helps individuals exercise and also helps manage sports center members. Members’ physical strength and exercise function can be easily measured using Vapor, and members can check and manage exercise statistics through the app. The user can check the daily exercise status as well as the member’s exercise participation and progress, and the user’s exercise ability can be checked using the ability distribution by exercise element. Vapor also supports membership management by person in charge, as well as membership fee and event. Vapor can easily create and provide individual exercise programs for members, and adjust and manage them according to individual characteristics of members. With Vapor, Expers is innovating the paradigm of sports. “We will strive to make professional exercise management services available to anyone who is interested in health and exercise easily and inexpensively through technological innovation and smartphones.” says Kim.
