As Korean music draws attention around the world, more and more students are trying to learn music. However, there are many music schools focusing at passing universities or auditions and many students lose their talents even after graduation. Therefore, music education must now focus on nurturing musicians, not just for admission or passing auditions.

Music is my own philosophy

Hong’s Music is nestled in Bosu-dong, Jung-gu, Busan. The school runs vocal training, listening, MIDI, theory, and composition regardless of age or profession. Instructors here are encouraging strength while compensate for the shortcomings according to each student’s color and character. They not only focus on singing well but also on understanding and interpreting the songs. They try to avoid unnecessary musical terms and theories. Instead, they use audiovisual materials so that students can more easily approach and understand music. Behind this teaching method lies the school’s motto ‘music is but my own philosophy’. 

What kind of musician I want to be?

Hong’s Music recently has relocated the base and seen a trifold increase in number of students. One of the reasons behind this is that the school takes care of students even from preparing for exams and auditions to activities and careers after graduation. Hong Eun-ji, Director of Hong’s Music, says, “This is very important. For example, a vocal major student should better know how to read and write songs. I’ve seen students not capable of doing this till they finish the course. So, instructors at Hong’s Music make sure that they do this. In the same respect, our curriculum shares part of its focus on thinking what kind of musician I want to be. The deeper they think about this, the clearer path they can see after graduation.” The Musician Research at Hong’s Music especially suits this philosophic purpose and it contains history of great musicians.

The Music Listening Test at Hong’s Music also is a good practice as students listen to various kinds of music to find out which genre they are better be comfortable with. The Special Lecture on music career in addition is noteworthy as students and instructors share their thoughts on career path alongside the trend of music market now. Thanks to the excellent curriculum of Hong’s Music, Director Hong was invited to teach students as an adjunct professor at Dongeui University College of Art, Design and Sport Science from March this year. Hong’s Music listed name in the winners of the 2022 Korea Brilliant People & Brand Awards and of the 2023 Proud Company, Organization and Consumer Brand Awards in the category of pop music education.
