A power cord, or line cord, mains cable and such, is an electrical cable that connects an appliance to the mains electricity supply via a wall socket or extension cord. It consists of plugs, wires, and connectors that connect to appliances to form a set of power cords. Power cords have different voltages, rated currents, outlet shapes, and standard specifications for each country. Therefore, it is important to use a reliable product suitable for it.

Enhanced quality competitiveness with over 20 years of know-how and technology

Obtained Korean KS and KC marks and Japanese JET and UL

Dong Myeoung Power Cord, located in Incheon, produces power cords and power cord sets that are marked with the Korean Industrial Standard ‘KS Certification’ and the ‘KC Electrical Appliance Safety Certification’. The company supplies the products to a number of companies including large home appliance companies.

The company has its head office in Incheon and a factory in Bucheon. Its skilled workers are making both domestic and foreign plugs, connectors, stoppers and harnesses according to the needs and wants of different country and usage.

The company started as an individual operator in 2001 and became a corporation in 2018. Based on skilled manpower and excellent technology for more than 20 years, it develops and produces product groups that meet technical standards.

Dong Myeoung Power Cord has domestic home appliance conglomerates as its main clients. The sales, which were 35 million won a year when it opened in 2001, are steadily increasing to 6.2 billion won in 2022, thanks to its excellent quality control and customer response capabilities.

CEO Lee Jong-ho says “All products that use electricity are standardized and approval required. There are national standards for each product, such as KC for home appliances and KS for electronic parts. If a power cord without KS is used, even home appliances cannot receive KC. We stably supply high-quality products that have received KS and KC to many companies.”

The company’s main products are brat power plugs, side grounded power plugs, non-grounded power plugs, 2P connectors, laptop connectors, computer connectors, and cap cords that meet each standard.

Acquisition of Inno-Biz and ISO pushes forward overseas certification and development of eco-friendly products

CEO Lee says “When you go abroad, the plug and socket shapes are all different. Each country has different standards and certifications, and in Europe alone, there are 7 certification bodies in 7 countries. The UK and France are making their own certification, and China has also made its own CCC certification. They are blocking the indiscriminate import and distribution of home appliances through this power cord certification and regulation, and are using it to protect their own industries. For example, to export home appliances to the UK, you have to make and export home appliances with ther specific power cords used in the UK.”

Lee points out “These days, as environmental standards have been strengthened, heavy metals such as cadmium must be removed from PVC used in home appliances. For the same reason, the number of regulated substances also continues to increase. If it does not pass that standard, it is difficult to obtain KS or KC certification, so we are also making products in line with these regulations such as wire PVC, for example, and terminal plating.”

Dong Myeoung Power Cord is making efforts to expand overseas certifications across all products in addition to Japan’s JET certification for a total of four models, including plugs and connectors, and UL certification for harnesses in the United States.

Lee says “Currently, we receive products manufactured overseas and process them secondarily to supply. However, in the future, we plan to further increase overseas certifications in each country and produce the entire process on our own. In fact, power cords are dominated by Chinese products worldwide. There are over 1,000 types of models for each company and product. The days of mass-producing identical power cords are over. As home appliances are also mainly produced in small quantities of various products, orders in the home appliance industry are not monthly, but weekly. They must be supplied according to the amount produced. So, we produce a set of plugs, cords, connectors, and harnesses as the client wants, and supply them in speed when an order is received.”

Power cords are electrical and electronic components that pose a risk of fire accidents. Therefore, quality control for safety and stable performance is of paramount importance.

Dong Myeoung Power Cord put a greater effort and investment into technology development and quality control, and applied for a patent after developing ‘a device to prevent disconnection of a power plug and a power plug equipped with it’. The company has been certified as a technologically innovative small and medium-sized business (Inno-Biz), ISO 9001 quality management system, and ISO 14001 environmental management system. The company is also building a solid foundation for growth by building a network with a number of companies for quality competitiveness.

CEO Lee Jong-ho, who started working at a power cord manufacturer in the early 1990s and jumped into the industry, expressed his gratitude by crediting the current growth to the employees who have been with him for a long time.

Lee says “We will continue to do our best in quality control so as not to damage the reputation of leading domestic home appliance manufacturers. We will do our best to develop stable and eco-friendly products that meet international standards.”
