KOTRA held North American investment declaration ceremony and investor roundtable

On September 22, the North American investment declaration ceremony and investor roundtable were held in New York, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Chang-Yang Lee) and supervised by KOTRA (President Jeong-Yeol Yoo).

This event was prepared to strengthen cooperation in the supply chain between the two countries in national strategic industries such as semiconductors, secondary batteries, and biotechnology, and to expand the basis for future cooperation such as electric vehicles and carbon neutrality, taking the opportunity of President Yoon Seok-yeol’s visit to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly.

At the investment declaration ceremony, which was held in the first order, in the presence of President Yoon, a total of seven companies reported investments worth $1.1 billion including Applied Materials, Dupont, Entegris (semiconductor), Borgwarner (electric vehicle), Solid Energy Systems Systems) (secondary battery), EMP Belstar (logistics), and Northland Power (offshore wind power).

Most of the reported projects are high-tech industries such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, and secondary batteries, which the Korean government is focusing on fostering, and it is expected to contribute to strengthening industrial competitiveness along with the expansion of the supply chain. Investments in offshore wind power and logistics are also significant in terms of establishing a carbon-neutral foundation.

Considering the importance of establishing a core industry supply chain and securing future competitiveness, KOTRA has been focusing on the priority management of this investment notification project as a target for investment attraction, and has been closely supporting and cooperating with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and related local governments.

In the investor roundtable that followed, companies with investment declarations were included, leading semiconductor companies such as Lam Research and Axcelis, and Google, Boeing, and Johnson & Johnson. A total of 13 representatives of global companies including , Pfizer and others participated. At this event, companies shared their investment results, introduced future investment plans, and exchanged opinions about difficulties in carrying out and deciding on an investment project.

KOTRA President Yoo Jeong-yeol said “The importance of attracting investment to respond to the reorganization of the global supply chain and secure future growth engines has become more important than ever. We will actively engage in attracting activities centering on the national high-tech strategic industries, and as the competition to attract investment between countries intensifies, we will actively work together with the government to improve the overall investment attraction environment.”

35 employees and their families volunteer to paint murals

On September 25, KOTRA executives and employees and 35 family members participated in a volunteer activity to paint a mural on the wall of the Seoul Narae School located in Yeomgok-dong, Seoul.

Seoul Narae School is a public special school where 120 students with physical disabilities from kindergarten to high school attend.

This event was prepared to make the children’s way to and from school bright and safe by painting on the wall, which was cement walls.

It was held in partnership with The Grim Company, a social enterprise that connects field experts with volunteer groups through support from start to finish.

The finished painting contains a message of hope and dreams for students with physical disabilities, with children holding hands and flying freely in the sky.

KOTRA President Yoo Jeong-yeol said “Employees and their families participated happily and volunteered to paint murals to help the local community where KOTRA belongs. We will continue to actively engage in activities to help those in need around us.”
