Historic Site No. 3, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, is a must-see relic if you come to Suwon. It was built as a center of political initiatives with grand political aspirations for the eradication of partisan politics by party controversy and the realization of a strong royal politics, along with the defense of the southern capital, where the filial piety of the dynasty became the basis of the celebration. The castle was designed by Dasan Jeong Yak-yong and began its construction in 1794, the 18th year of the King Jeong-jo, and was completed two years later, in 1796. The architects invented new equipment such as a giant medium, a bow car, and a green furnace, and the fortress is considered to be the most unique building in the history of Korean castle architecture, which can examine the science, architecture, and art of the 18th century, including its use and the consecration method that concentrates East and West consecration. In 1997 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the worldwide recognition of the value of its 4 gates, each with its own different characteristics and shapes.
