Lee Jae-myung inaugurated as the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea

I will do our best to improve people’s livelihood

In his inauguration speech, Lee said “Our Democratic Party’s path is a practical way of reforming people’s livelihoods. We like ideals, but reality is important, and we have to harmonize reality and ideals, so we must not lose direction but be thoroughly realistic. People’s livelihood and reform are not different words. Reform is for people’s livelihood. We will make practical reforms for the livelihood of the people. In the face of this difficult economic reality, including prices, exchange rates, and interest rates, and the crisis of people’s livelihood, we will do our best to prevent the retreat of our people and improve people’s livelihoods.” Earlier, Lee and the party leadership began their official schedule by visiting the Seoul National Cemetery in Dongjak-dong. Lee wrote in the guestbook, “I will not forget the noble sacrifice for the country and people.”

Lee visit Moon

Moon said “Secure hope and support of the people by taking good care of the their livelihood”

On the 29th, Lee Jae-myung, the new Democratic Party leader, paid a visit to former president Moon Jae-in for the first time since taking office. In addition, in relation to factional conflicts, Lee and Moon both agreed on the unity between ‘pro-Moon’ and ‘pro-Lee’. This afternoon, Lee visited the residence of former president Moon in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do. The visit was accompanied by new leaders such as Chung Cheong-rae, Ko Min-jung, Park Chan-dae, Seo Young-kyo, and Jang Gyeong-tae, floor leader Park Hong-geun, spokesman Park Seong-joon, and lawmaker Kim Du-gwan. When the bus with the Democratic Party leadership appeared on the road in front of the residence, about 30 supporters waiting nearby greeted them with waving ‘blue balloons’. As Lee and the top councilors got off the bus and walked towards the residence, the cheers of the supporters chanting ‘Lee Jae-myung’ grew even higher, and the leadership also responded by bowing and waving their hands. Moon, dressed in a gray trousers and a garter top, also walked out in front of his private residence to welcome Lee and his party.
