Korea Polytechnics Asan (Dean Kim Yong-mok) won ICT Convergence Education at the 2022 Korea Culture Management Awards held at the Seoul Press Center on September 5. It was hosted by Herald Group and organized by monthly <PowerKorea>.

The reason ICT education is welcomed

The government is making great efforts in the digital education to cultivate future talents with AI, blockchain and SW as its center of training. The ICT Innovation Square Project is one of the driving forces of this project that aims to foster more than 30,000 manpower in the field. Korea Polytechnic Asan is recognized as a Chungcheong ICT Complex Center that is playing a leading role in this project. Korea Polytechnic Asan aims to examine the global trends in artificial intelligence and at the same time explore ways to utilize it. 

Dean Kim Yong-mok said “I think the best welfare of this era is job creation. We hope that our students will combine work and learning, show off their talents in the field in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and contribute to the development of the national economy. Above all, I think it’s my role to make sure that our young people have dreams and hopes. The Asan Campus of Korea Polytechnics runs a curriculum that can be fused together by the root industry and the 4th Industrial Revolution, and we are doing our best to cultivate convergent talents, especially based on artificial intelligence. Taking this award as a stepping stone, we will devote more efforts to enhancing the competitiveness of specialized industries that have integrated ICT technology.”

In a rapidly emerging metaverse society, having the ability to use digital and prepare for a successful future is an essential position. Korea Polytechnic Asan has implemented various supports to help the digital- underprivileged accept and adapt to the changes of the times. 

It is an educational institution that is advancing by utilizing advanced information and communication technologies such as internet technology, and has been preparing for the new environment by building a robust real-time online education system. ICT Complex provides software development spaces alongside test equipment as well as AI and blockchain facilities to foster talented industry experts. 

Korea Polytechnics Asan Industry-Academic Cooperation Director Choi Ui-sun said “The Asan Polytechnics ICT Innovation Square expanding project cultivated 124% achievement rate in 2020 with a total of 373 students completing the courses, and in 2021 a total of 481 people completed the training, making it 110% achievement rate. This year, we are continuing the high level of interest from our students.” 

Countries around the world are fiercely competing for AI preemption. South Korea also needs to train local AI talents that can serve as the foundation of the national economy. Korea Polytechnic Asan’s ICT Innovation Square expanding projet has become an important project to foster talted AI/SW manpower and to innovate regional industry. It remains to be seen whether this project can be considered a true success story of the Korean New Deal.
