Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival

August 1592, Korean navy faced the Japanese counterpart off see of Hansan Island. The famous Hac-ik-jin (spread wings) formation brought the Korean navy a great victory under the leadership of Admiral Sunshin Lee. So called the Hansan Battle is one of the three battles alongside Jinju and Haengju during the Japanese invasions in late 1500. In commemoration, the Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival is held in Tongyeong City. In addition to naval parades and shows, a variety of events take place including concerts, fireworks and the oarsmanship competition. 

What to see and do in Tongyeong?

Climb the 461 meter high Mireuk Mountin to see a birdeye view or ride the 1,975 meter long cable car to see sunrise and sunset without the effort of sweating. Have a look around many temples including Yonghwa, Mirae, Gwaneum and Dosol. Try the thrilling skyline luge to drive yourself through the 1.5 kilometer long course. If you want something extreme, try the 15 meter high adventure tower where you can pick one of 90 courses. The Kart in Tongyeong also is worth visiting. 

Music city Tongyeong

The UNESCO designated Tongyeong as a creative music city in December 2015. The city has many traditional musical rituals and is the place where the international music competition commemorating a world famous composer Isang Yun held. The Tongyeong International Music Hall was opened in 2013 and it is serving as a renowned landmark of the city. The hall is where the Tongyeong International Music Festival is held. An official of the city’s cultural division said that the city is working to organize a variety of music events to live up to its name. <PowerKorea>
