At the southern tip of South Gyeongsang Province is Geoje Island. It is the third largest island in the nation consisted of 73 sub-islands. The island’s rias coast, white pebble and sand beaches, mud flats and the surrealistic colors of the sea attract visitors throughout the year.

The Haegeumgang, Oedo Botania, Mongdol Beach, Jisim Island, Gonggokzee and Busan-Geoje Bridge are a must visit. If you want to visit only one of these, everybody will single out the Heageumgang. You will lose your word by its God and Goddess playground-like sceneries that embrace many such stories.

If you have time to visit one more place, go Oedo Botania. You might be confused whether you are somewhere in Greece or on a Far East island.

If you are a musician or your profession is related to sound, you must go straight to Mongdol Beach. It is listed in the 100 Nature’s Sound of South Korea. The sound made from the waves coming and going in and out of the myriad white pebbles is but the sound of a different world.

As is often the case, not all is beautiful on the island. The Historic Park of Geoje POW Camp was where 173,000 North Korean prisoners of the Korean War were accommodated. It is now used as an event and exhibition hall.

If you are a born-walker, try one of the 90 trails in and around the southern coast that meanders 1,470 kilometers of which Geoje embraces 16 to 27 courses in 12 trails totalling 170.4 kilometers.

Yacht and boat tours and monorails are also available. Come to Geoje Island this year or anytime. <PowerKorea>
