The event celebrating the 51st Anniversary of the Independence and National Day of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was held at Lotte Hotel, Sogongdong, Seoul. After almost 3 years of no official gathering events of foreign embassies in Seoul, Bangladesh organized this meaningful event this spring. Many fellow ambassadors made appearance on the day alongside important people and high government officials to give congratulations and support. Below is the some of the important remarks made on the day by Bangladeshi ambassador to Seoul Delwar Hossain:

Bangladesh achieved independence in 1971 under the great leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Founding Father of Bangladesh, who strived to eliminate discrimination but bring equality and prosperity to the nation. In this meaningful commemoration day, I would like to show my deepest respect to 3 million martyrs who lost their lives during the bloody war and thanks to friendly nations who gave sympathy and support.

For the last 50 years, Bangladesh has made a great progress in economy. The yearly 6% GDP growth from 2011 jumped to 8.15% in 2019. Though the progress was slow during the peak times of the pandemic, we expect 6.5% GDP growth in fiscal year. This great economic progress we have made is benefiting lives of our people better than before.

The government is pushing forward a large scale infrastructure with a goal to enter advanced countries by 2041. South Korea in this respect is an important trade partner. Both countries have built productive economic cooperation for the last 50 years and the cooperation is being made in more than 50 sectors today.

The trade volume between the two countries reached $2 billion as of 2021 and South Korea is one of the top three ODA project beneficiaries. Owing to Exclusive Export Processing Zone, South Korea also lists its name in the top 5 investors to Bangladesh. Started in textile industry, South Korea is now expanding its investment to various other sectors such as smartphone, automotive and home appliances.

I hope the event today will be an another opportunity for both countries to strengthen cooperation not only in economy but also in various international issues. <PowerKorea>
