Cord blood is a blood collected from the vein of umbilical cord and the amount is around 100 to 200cc. Cord blood contains stem cells that are roots of cartilages, bones, muscles and neurons and for this reason they are being used in the regenerative medicine and curing incurable diseases. 

Some families keep their cord blood for the use in the future. The problem is the expensive keeping fee. Paying attention on this high cost, Hucord is running an umbilical cord blood bank that can be used for the public. 

Junhong Kim, CEO of Hucord, says that possibility of using one's own umbilical cord blood is less than 0.04%. A leukemia patient, for example, already has leukemia precursor cell in his cord blood so using the cord blood is useless. But transplant of cord blood from different HLA genes is possible with rare possibility of occurring graft versus host disease. In other words, Kim says, using other people's cord blood should not arouse a big issue in terms of safety. 

Currently, Hucord is keeping around 80,000 units of cord bloods that meet the international standards. Keeping alongside are testing records and all necessary information including HLA. The company has accumulated data on stem cell tests and disease treatments for a long time and is producing unique stem cells and culture media through differentiated stem cell culture techniques. 

Its HSCM culture media is used for its various derma cosmetic lines including toner, ample, cream and serum and they are sold on the market with excellent reviews at the moment. Hucord's HSCM is rich in multi bio substances and the team avoids any forms of artificial blend during the making process in order to make it as natural as possible. "We signed a export deal worth $2 million with a buyer in China in August 2020 and a memorandum of understanding with a buyer from Malaysia. We are receiving inquiries from buyers in the US and Japan at the moment which is encouraging" says Kim.

Hucord has 10 patents for original technologies in cord blood and its stem cells and was listed in the 6 Stem Cell Therapy Companies by Nature Biotechnology journal in December 2005.
