The job of the Road Traffic Authority (KoRoad) is to make sure of road safety at all times through monitoring traffic signs, checking up traffic facilities and improving traffic flow and environment. KoRoad Sejong and South Chungcheong Province especially is working in cooperation with the provincial police committee and the Traffic Broadcasting System Daejeon to carry out field check-up, traffic equipment maintenance and traffic enforcement.
As part of the same effort, South Jeolla Province joined hands with Hantech to install Smart Eye on school zones around Jungma Elementary School and Nokdong Elementary School. Smart Eye sends traffic information to both drivers and pedestrians through LED traffic panels and speakers in real time to prevent possible traffic accidents. Sangju City, North Gyeongsang Province, also poured 250 million won ($206,000) to solar energy-based luminous traffic signs for drivers to see clearly at night and under harsh weather conditions.
Sejong City in particular lays importance of visibility and is painting the traffic signs yellow around the school zones. Taking a step further, Yongsang District, Seoul, has started installing children's eye level traffic signs in yellow so that both children and drivers recognize the traffic signs instantly and easily. "Traffic signs are still important in the era of navigation", emphasizes KoRoad, adding that "We will keep working to improve traffic signs and road safety." <PowerKorea>
