[Jeongin]

Bulji Temple Chief Monk Jeongin went to Haein Temple when he failed the high school entrance exam. For the next one year, he was taught under instruction of monk Sungchung. He then moved to Beomeo Temple and received teachings of monk Sungju during which he also obtained the high school certificate, entered Dongguk University and carried on the study at Aichi Gakuin University Graduate School in religion. He pushed it up to doctor’s degree in the same major and graduated in 1988 at the same university and started working as a Buddhism professor at Jung-ang Sangha University from March 1989. For the next 30 years, he served various roles including a dean and retired on February 2018. He also took various leading roles including chief monk of Ssanggye Temple afterwards until he has taken the role of Chief Monk at Bulji Temple.

[Teachings]

“Buddha taught us not to do bad things but good things and make our mind clean. It is the purpose of my life to spread teachings of Buddha to the people. The teachings make our mind comfortable and take all people on Earth as our teachers. This is because all individuals are but Buddha. This way, we can live without biased views. We all have earthly desires but we can control the desires by sharing what we have with others. We had better let go of desire, anger and foolishness. One other thing we also need to bear in mind is that we should always make ourselves humble. Buddha taught us to be humble to have a peaceful life” says Jeongin.

[Peace in Myanmar]

Jeongin took the steering wheel of the Changwon Buddhist Association as the 6th president. The association donated 10 million won ($8,488) to Koreans from South Gyeongsang Province living in Myanmar, alongside a statement of peace to stop the end of civil war. The association also held a music concert wishing peace in Myanmar and one of the invited to perform on the day was a Myanmar refugee girl Wanleehwa. (PowerKorea)
