The Korea Elevator Safety Agency held a briefing session on 2021 Elevator SME Tech Support Project last March 17 at the Elevator Safety Technology Institute in Geochang County. The first session was for companies in Gyeongsang and Jeolla Provinces and the second session for companies in the capital region. The project was introduced in 2018 and the support has been provided on technology research and development relating to vertical type wheelchair lifts, thermal metachromasia elevator safety panels, remote control systems. Up to 200 million won ($170,910) R&D fund is to be given out for eligible companies alongside necessary equipment and facilities.

The Elevator Safety Technology Institute, an affiliate of the Korea Elevator Safety Agency, set sail March 25, 2019. The Institute has carried out a total of 5,092 cases of parts and safety tests and approvals so far. It is especially noteworthy that the Institute has saved around 6.5 billion won test and approval costs of companies by running ‘visit-and-test system’. In recognition, the Institute received a citation from the Board of Audit and Inspection. Also notable achievement of the Institute is that it has secured 23 billion won R&D budget from the central and local governments. The Institute director Younggun Kang said “We have achieved remarkable results only within 2 years and it is our plan to grow the Institute as a global elevator safety test and approval body in the future.” (PowerKorea)
