Economy and Finance Minister Namki Hong held the 1st Economic Security Strategic Meeting on October 18 at the Government Complex Seoul. It was arranged to find measures against the US government’s asking of providing information on semiconductor. The attendees on the day shared ideas on protecting our technologies while studying the details of the demand and the move of other countries. Despite close cooperation between South Korea and the US on semiconductor, the South Korean government has delivered worries to the US government through various channels on this issue. As the demand for technology security is high, the South Korean government is strengthening building technology security network to prevent any possible leak of important technology information. 

 

Hong meets ADB Secretary General Woojeong Um

Economy and Finance Minister Namki Hong met Asia Development Bank Secretary General Woojeong Um on October 25 at the Government Complex Seoul. It happened in 15 years that a South Korean nationality took the highest position of ADB and Hong asked Um to play an important role in strengthening cooperative relations between South Korea and ADB. Um said that South Korea was contributing to activities of ADB and promised to play a bridge role between the two parties. Hong mentioned that the South Korea’s vaccine hub project was one of the important national tasks and asked Um for cooperation for health and quarantine in developing countries. Hong also asked Um a need to open a Korean office within ADB to push forward cooperative projects on health, vaccine, climate change, tax and startup. Um shared the same views on the cooperation in the fields and responded with proactive support. South Korean government sees the 2023 ADB Annual Meeting as a momentum to strengthen Korea-ADB cooperation. (PowerKorea)
