St. Louis, US in 1915, a girl named Peggy was playing. Not long after, she was killed by a car. The event aroused people’s interest in creating parks for children to play freely in safety and it also was the start of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) by Henry Giessenbier Jr. JCI has grown today to have 123 member countries, run 8,000 offices globally and as the largest NGO organization in the world. In South Korea, 20,000 members from 365 offices are engaged in the activities. JCI runs development programs relating to individuals, business, region and international with grand goals of contributing to world peace and prosperity of humanity. It is a non-political and non-profit organization and anyone aged between 20 and 42 can join JCI.
Goseong JC opened door as the 27th office in the nation and has 55 years of continuous services in providing better opportunities for young people and in development of the region. Heonmee Kang, Director of Goseong JC, has been inaugurated as the 55th director of the office in the region and it has 50 members including 6 women as of 2021. “Being the director, a wife and a mom is tough but it makes me work hard and live passionately” says Kang. Since taking the steering wheel, she has led numerous socially beneficial events such as planting trees and giving out masks for free. “Goseong JC is open for everybody to join. We welcome those who have dreams and passions as well as positive mind and willingness to create a better society. Let us grow together, live together in harmony and share things we have with others.” (PowerKorea)
