The Research Industry Promotion Act was passed February this year. The act was proposed by Democratic Party lawmaker Sangmin Lee to support research, statistics, research projects and research industry promotion complexes. In the field of research, equipment plays an important part. In South Korea, 90% of research equipment comes from overseas. Research equipment is expensive and quality and performance therefore must be guaranteed.

Youngwoo Science is a science equipment supplier and a health supplement company. It finds excellent science equipment overseas, imports and supplies them to educational institutions, research centers and companies in South Korea. “Filters used in health care, life science, energy, mobility and personal protective gears are some of our main imports” says Sungryang Wee, CEO of Youngwoo Science. Wee started this business from 2010 and has found, imported and supplied a variety of analysis equipment, chemical agents and standard materials to Korean research centers and companies. He has participated in many science and technology fairs and exhibitions as well as seminars and conferences home and abroad to catch up the latest trend and future direction.

Youngwoo Science is importing equipment from 10 companies and makes deals with 1 to 2 new companies every year. The ThermoFisher’s production lines, such as LC/IC/GC (chromatography) and MS/MS (mass spectrometer), are some of the popular equipment while YMC KOREA’s research column, preparerive HPLC, filler and industrial column, preparerive HPLC also are selling well. The company has obtained the sole distributor license from Reagecon (Ireland) that deals chemical and physical standard materials, conductivity solution, buffer solution, TOC solution, density solution, viscosity solution, effluent, USP and EP method reagents. Other partner companies include Accustandard, Biotage, Applichrom and Concise from which the company imports GPC, SEC and HLPC. Quite recently, CEO Wee has released its own brand PROLABS and started promotion alongside imported goods.

[Health Supplements]
Apart from science equipment, the company started importing high quality natural oil from U.S. Connoils. The imported oil goes through localization in South Korea before selling. Wee has a great interest in hemp seed and CBD. CBD is banned in South Korea but he expects a lift sooner or later as it is a global trend to use it on the beneficial side. Apart from hemp seed, he is importing evening primrose oil and sawpalmetto oil and powder with an idea of B2B and B2C. (PowerKorea)
