(PowerKorea) Tongyeong City celebrated 2nd Island Day from August 6 to 8. South Korean government set the date August 8 as Island Day and held the first ceremony in Mokpo City in 2019. The year 2020 was skipped due to the pandemic. The 2nd year ran symposium, exhibition halls and local specialty halls online while the ceremony event offline limited the number under 49 and it was aired live. The island exhibition hall showed 42 islands in 3D and the island specialty hall sold 90 kinds of locally produced products through Naver shopping. Comedian Eunji Lee played a show host and promoted Tongyeong oyster and eel at a discounted price. 

Tongyeong quarantines pet playground
Tongyeong quarantined pet playground on July 26 from 2pm to 3pm. The playground is created as 2,000 square meter in Juklimri and opened door to the public last April 16. 1,513 pets and 2,424 pet owners are estimated to have visited the playground for 87 days from the opening, an average 17 pets and 38 pet owners a day. Families in their 30s and 40s recorded highest on weekends. A city official said that they would make quarantine a regular so that people and pets can play around in safety from possible diseases.
