(PowerKorea) A firefighter Jaeheon Park’s essay <My Humble Story About Justice> (July 2021, KNSBookup) is creating a buzz in the book market. He says in the book “A justice becomes injustice and injustice justice by a certain force. A justice and an unfairness I think are a living organism. There is no absolute justice and there is no absolute unfairness.”

As the essay is his first book, Park tried not to show off his writing technique but bravely exposing his embarrassing personal facts in simple words in order to gain truthfulness. He is the head of one of the five study groups of Department of Law at Korea National Open University. The study room is in the basement and he has tried to raise a fund to raise the basement study room over ground. This failed, he decided to raise fund by writing a book and selling it. For this reason, 90 percent of the profit generated by the book goes to so called ‘study group development fund’.

Park spent hard time in his childhood. Yet he never lost the attitude to see things positively. He failed the police exam 6 times and succeeded the firefighter exam at the 7th time through which he delivers a message that after a storm comes a calm. He dreams of creating a society where members care each other and share pains each other. “I want to advise young people to have patience, take care of others, work hard to achieve their dream and remember that they are not alone.

A job of firefighter requires an ability of instinctive decision as one never knows what awaits beyond the fire. He says that most people die of smoke and saving a life depends on how a firefighter takes the situation. “I always fear getting into the fire because I might die during the course. Nevertheless, it is my job and duty to do it anyway so I’d better be brave and act fast. It is regretful however that the 119 call center is suffering from lack of staff and firefighters need to feel proud through improved work environment. Pride makes us work better and consolidate better.”

He continues “Pride is an important ingredient of happiness. Happiness is inside of us but not outside and I think people don’t think about this much and often miss what true happiness is. We should not be cracked down by the heavy weight of our life. We should endure it and we can remove the burden one day.”

He adds “My essay is about firefighters but I ask readers to put themselves in firefighter’s shoes through which they can better understand the job and the life in general. I think everybody deserves a right to be respected and to be confident with one’s life. Though we are experiencing a pandemic, I would to encourage all of you to carry on your life.”
