(PowerKorea) Gyeongju, South Gyeongsang Province, is 370km (230 miles) southeast of Seoul. This coastal city was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla (57BC-935AD) that ruled the 2/3 of the Korean Peninsula in its peak times between the 7th and the 9th centuries. Near one thousand year history left splendid architectural treasures including Cheomseongdae observatory, Seokguram grotto and Bulguksa temple which are still well preserved and visited by millions.

If you have an occasion to visit the city and finished touring the architectural treasures, it might be a good idea to take a rest over a cup of tea or coffee on Hwangridan-gil, the hottest street in the city. And if you do not know where to quench your thirst and rest your tired feet, Seolwol might treat with with local and historic ambience.

Seolwol is a cafe of a traditional tiled house known as hanok in Korean. Two hanoks are used as a one hanok cafe. Inside, you can see a pine tree backgrounded by an illuminated full moon on the wall; on the way to the second floor is a pagoda. These props create a unique Silla Kingdom ambience while the full glass windows give wide to a thousand year old ancient capital city. You might feel like you are appreciating a work of traditional Korean painting by looking out the windows.

If you have seated and do not know what to try, try Daereungwon tart, the signature cake made with sticky rice and red bean paste. Daereungwon is an ancient tomb; so the shape of the cake reminds you of the tomb in green color. Also recommended to try are: cherry latte, sesame latte, fermented tea, apple mango ice flakes, nut cream croffle, fresh fruit juice and seasonal local specials.

Seolwol listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey 2021 and won Korean Desert at the Innovation Winner 2021 hosted by Herald Corporation.
