▲ Uijeongbu City Council / Chairman Oh Bum-gu

(PowerKorea) Uijeong City Council set sail in 1991. Serving the 450,000 citizens in the year 2021, the council is pushing forward its zeal on educational vision, violence prevention measures and relocation of public institutions to the city under the leadership of the chairman Oh Bum-gu.

Before taking the steering wheel of the council, Oh had served various roles: branch head of the unions of Myungjin Passenger and Jinmyung Passenger, Gyeonggi central-north branch head of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions and the member of the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Committee; a total of 28 years in the Korean labor world. 

Also serving as the city construction committee head during the first half year of 2018 at the Uijeongbu City Council, he made contributions to improvement of public parking lot, cultural park, garbage truck, fine dust reduction, public toilet and street construction. 

March 31, 2021, Oh and members of the council and citizen representatives attended the rally to relocate Gyeongi provincial offices to the city and made a strong voice. April 2, the council paid a visit to a COVID-19 prevention center in the city and encouraged staff. The centers are to vaccinate up to 600 citizens aged over 74 a day. 

Oh in particular urged revision of the Local Autonomy Act with details in independence of human resources, rational adjustment to the number of council members, allocation of policy experts and legislative activity fees. He also has proactively engaged in social activities and visited welfare centers on a regular basis especially on the national holidays to take care of citizens in need.

In recognition of his devotion and hard work, Oh received the 2021 Korea Value Management Award in the category of excellent local government administration. 

“I will keep paying attention to the voice of 450,000 citizens and make it right where improvement is found to be made” said Oh.
