(PowerKorea) Many people split 24 hours a day into three activities: 8 hours in working, 8 hours in resting and 8 hours in sleeping. People normally go out to have a fun during the 8 hour resting. The pandemic, however, is forcing people to stay home and many of them spend the valuable time on the bed.

Experts say that resting actually does not mean doing nothing because humans are designed to consume allocated amount of energy a day. Negligence on this can cause insomnia and naturally tiredness next day. This also is the reason that increasing number of people taking various fitness courses such as yoga, pilates and the recently rising fast bungee physio. Bungee physio was originated from a concert held in Liverpool, UK in the 90s: performers hang on the wires down from the ceiling and captivated the audience with a variety movements and this was called ‘wired aerial theatre’.

Park Jong-pil used to work as a physical therapist for 18 years. He was the first South Korean to participate in the 1st academy of bungee physio held in Bangkok in 2016. Back homeland, he added his own physical therapy movements to the fitness to create his own bungee physio divided into bungee fitness, medical bungee and vertical physio.

Nareum Studio is a bungee physio center opened by Lee Hyun-joo March this year in Gijang County, Busan, with focus on physical strength, diet and health management. Lee used to work as a taekwondo instructor for 6 years until she married and was busy taking care of her baby. She often complained about knee and waist pain during which she came to know about bungee fitness and experienced improvement in symptoms. Lee met Lee Jae-woo, who now is serving as the deputy director of Nareum Studio, at a bungee physio class; Lee Jae-woo majored in modern dance.

Within two months of opening the studio, they attracted around 100 trainees for a 50 minute class two times every week or one day class a week. It is notable that the age groups of the trainees are a diverse range of people of all ages from children to 60s. Director Lee ascribes this to the bungee physio’s smooth movements that do not strain joints of the body.

“It is good to hear from some of the trainees who stopped taking medicine after doing bungee physio. This not only proves effectiveness of the fitness but also our capability in instruction. I hope our bungee physio programs can help more people suffering from physical fatigue and pain” says Lee.
