(PowerKorea) Education sector probably has been most busy turning offline programs to online since the outbreak of COVID-19. Many seem to have found the way while some still seem to be struggling. It is important for education authorities, institutions and parents to keep and support the regular courses running regardless the situation so that children should not be left behind and disadvantaged.

Opened in March 2009 in Gangneung City, Onsaemiro Kindergarten is making a good example of turning offline courses to online with creative programs. It was designated for Excellent Open Kindergarten by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for running creative programs not only for children but also for teachers and parents.

In addition, it received a Health and Welfare Minister’s prize January last year for excellent implementation of the COVID-19 quarantine rules and prevention including creative contents that have encouraged children how to wash their hands frequently and regularly as well as home learning and play contents such as home-play, rocket straw play and mind quarantine kid.

Gwon Tae-rin, Director of Onsaemiro Kindergarten, majored in educational psychology and has first grade certificate of counseling psychology and of child psychology. Alongside the director’s job, he is serving as a committee member of the Gangneung Educare Association, of the Gangneung Public Kindergarten Association and of the Gangneung Support Center for Childcare.

Under his education philosophy emotion-centered, children-centered and nature-centered, Gwon values highly of tripartite communication and engagement between children, teachers and parents and he himself plays the bridging role.

Onsaemiro Kindergarten received the 2021 Korea Education Industrial Awards in the category of kindergarten. Rather than enjoying the winning, Gwon takes it as an encouragement for him to bring better and more effective and engaging educational contents.
