(PowerKorea) At the recent Newsis interview, Baek Jong-woon, President of the Korea Magazine Association, said that he would turn a new chapter for Korean magazine industry with an advanced platform for both publishers and readers.
He sees with doubtful eye on the current contents of magazines in South Korea and ascribes it hugely to ineffective distribution that cuts link between the publishers and the readers, and to proliferation of one man media on Youtube.
“Bookstores are disappearing rapidly and I think we need a new concept public bookstore. The traditional contents of magazines are being published on blogs and postings nowadays which are absolutely free. In other words, the traditional paper magazines should and better bring up differentiated contents to compete with this one man media invasion. So I’m thinking of bringing up a platform like Netflix where the contents of all kinds of magazines are seen in this single search-and-read platform.”
Baek majored in law at Korea University and is the publisher of Good Morning Pops and CEO of Korea Broadcasting Publishing. He served as a 39th member of the magazine research committee, and a 41st and 43rd board director of the Korea Magazine Association. He recently has taken the rudder of the Association and is to sail the rough sea for 2 years.
PowerKorea is an official partner of Herald Corporation. The magazine is distributed to the KOTRA business centers in the world. PowerKorea publishes latest news of government, Samsung, Hyundai and LG and endeavors to serve a platform to engage with people around the world.
