The pandemic has changed the way Koreans enjoy overnight. Instead of staying at a hotel, they choose to tune their car to spend the night outdoor. Subsequently, the camping car tuning industry is enjoying a sudden boom. As usual, the booming industry has come with some side effects: malfunctions and bad services from some careless tuners. The government’s deregulation on car tuning also plays a part for seemingly unqualified and inexperienced tuners getting into the business. A report shows that the number of tuned cars in South Korea jumped to 7,700 in 2020 from mere 125 in 2014 and complains have increased accordingly.

Lee Byeong-gik, CEO of Human Camping Car, has observed the market with keen eye. He majored in electronic engineering and knows more than anyone else how dangerous it can be when a car tuned without proper knowledge and skills, the reason he engages himself in all tuning procedures of each of his client’s cars. Alongside, he runs two of standardized tuning models: Human 550 and Human 660.

The seats of both models look forward and comfortably slanted backward and are installed with a 150L fridge, 24inch TV, Carrier air conditioner, shower booth and Eberspacher 5D high boiler. However, Human 550 has convertible tables and sofa beds and expandable rear terrace while Human 660 has 3 settled beds in the rear to widen the trunk alongside attachable table and kitchen.

In addition to Human 550 and Human 660, the company is soon introducing Human Mini for apartment dwellers to park their camping care conveniently without a worry about the height.

“Many complaints are about safety and poor maintenance. My team and I are making sure to carry out the tuning thoroughly from safety and installation so that no complaints will be made afterwards. If complaints are made anyway, I directly deal with the client 24/7 because I’m the one who in charge of designing, installing and maintaining” says Lee Byeong-gik, CEO of Human Camping Car.

Tuning a normal car into a camping car is similar to building a house according to Lee. In other words, tuners must have a sense of great responsibility that they should feel like they put their name on it. This is what Lee and his team is running their business with. PowerKorea
