¡ã Park Sangsoo Sculpture Artist

Sculpture is an art genre that uses three-dimensional space to create a three-dimensional shape. Unlike paintings that express shapes on a plane, it is characterized by being able to make use of a sense of space, three-dimensionality, and dynamics, and because it has been created with the development of human civilization, its techniques and materials are also enormously diverse. However, there is an artist who communicates with the audience with a new modern sense by combining sculpture with a completely different genre of music. It is the Korean Sculptor Association, Jeonju Sculpture Association, and is currently working as a representative of C&I Design, and the 19th JoongAng Art Competition Excellence Award. He is a sculpture artist Park Sang-soo who has won the 8th Art World Grand Prize, and is active in 7 solo exhibitions and various invitations and group exhibitions.

I convince my parents to want to do art... But the wall of reality
was high

Artist Park Sang-soo, who was born in Jeonju, Jeolla Province, recalled that he had a normal school days as the youngest of three boys and girls. However, since he was young, he liked art activities, so he majored in sculpture at university. While I liked the sculpture that I could touch and feel more than any other art genre, the reason was that it was judged that there would be demand for sculptures as it became mandatory to set up sculptures at the entrance of buildings of a certain size or larger to promote the art world at the time.
So he majored in sculpture, spent his school days, and experienced his first solo exhibition in graduate school. But by the time he graduated from graduate school, something unexpected happened. That is, the IMF crisis that plunged Korea into a crucible of shock broke out. It was impossible to continue his studies or make a living as a full-time writer, so he had no choice but to give up his dream of becoming an artist with his tears faded. He said that he had to get out of sculpture for 18 years after graduating from his graduate school, such as having a career in interior business or architecture.

Art should be able to reach the audience easily and impress... Music is also part of it

Artist Park Sang-soo, who lived a life apart from art for such a long time, reenters the world of art by holding a solo exhibition on the first floor of the Insadong Art Center with the help of a friend and wife. His solo exhibition <The Memories of Music>, which was held on the first floor of Insadong Art Center in 2001, received a lot of attention through the combination of music and sculpture, and was linked to five additional solo exhibitions and an invitation to Singapore. It was the help of my wife who loves classical music.
Then, what effect did the fusion of sculpture and music have on the world of artist Park's work? Park mentioned that contemporary art is not accessible to the general public by default, and said that the combination of music and sculpture touches people's emotions with synesthesia and omnidirectional power and helps the audience more easily approach them. In particular, Park's recollection was that he felt a lot from the audience, who praised for the first time that he felt the emotion that resonated with his heart through the fusion of music and sculpture through the fusion of music and sculpture when conducting his solo exhibition at Insadong Art Center.
In addition, artist Park Sang-soo said that he wished that viewers could share the subject of the work and his intention that he reveals through the title of the work. In this era when difficult and esoteric works are considered the essence of contemporary art, the thought of Park, who may be a somewhat rebellious belief, comes into my eyes. In addition, in this dimension, Park revealed that he does not want to incorporate strong colors such as personal political beliefs into his works, and that he is pursuing a pure beauty that can relate to many people.

“The sense of space, dynamics, and modern beauty are my goals”
The characteristics of artist Park Sang-soo's work are that he captures a unique theme and associates it with music, and uses a variety of materials such as wood, glass, crystal resin, metal, and marble to create a sense of harmony between different materials and properties. In particular, Park is characterized by maximizing the sense of space and dynamism by grafting architectural techniques to sculptures by utilizing his experiences of his past interior-related professions, and bringing out highly universal beauty through a simple yet modern sense. In addition, rather than artificially adding color tones, it is also a feature of Park's work that it is tuned to create visual harmony by revealing the colors inherent in various materials.
Artist Park chose the Singapore Art House Invitational Exhibition when asked about the most memorable exhibition.
Singapore is also known as a country with a large art-loving atmosphere in East Asia. In Singapore, various art exhibitions, large and small, are becoming spaces for those who love art, and it is also a country with many people who love and invest in art, regardless of their own wealth or reputation.
The Singapore Art House shows the atmosphere of Singapore's art enthusiast. The Singapore Art House was converted into an exhibition hall by renovating the old Parliament Building, and the first exhibition of the artist Park Sang-soo was held with great success, including the Prime Minister of Singapore also visited and showed interest.
After a large-scale exhibition that is difficult to experience in Korea, the standing party was amazing, and it was amazing how art lovers from all over the world were interested in their work, but the most amazing experience was at the home of a client who purchased her work in Singapore. It was an experience when I was invited, Park recalled. Despite not living in a big house rich and glamorous, it was hard to see in Korea that he loves art on a daily basis and naturally purchases his favorite works of art everywhere in his house and takes great pride in that fact. It was a moment to get a glimpse of Singapore, one of the countries with the most developed art-lover culture in East Asia.

“I hope Korea, which has become an economically developed country, and art become a more common country… ”
Artist Park Sang-soo expressed the opinion that it would be good for the creation of an all-round culture and support for more people to love and enjoy art on a daily basis, as to what he wishes for the current art world. In particular, in the case of overseas, popular media outlets often deal with news from the art world, and even if you are not particularly interested in art, you will have many opportunities to access art news, increasing your chances of becoming an art lover. In contrast, in the case of Korea, even when exhibitions by world-renowned artists are held, most of the media do not handle them. As Korea is the world's 10th largest economic powerhouse and at the same time leading the world in other cultural fields represented by K-pop and Korean films, the art field has also become more popular and can interact with many audiences on a daily basis. Park's wish is that I wish there were.
Finally, artist Park Sang-soo is preparing for a trip to Miami, USA in December of this year, and he announced plans to participate in Miami's Art Basel, also known as the World's Four Art Fairs. In addition, while preparing for a new solo exhibition in May, he enjoyed his work itself, but at the same time, he did not hide his passion and aspiration, always thirsting for development.
